@BenPilbrow I'm not sure, I honestly haven't done a lot of testing yet, plus I'm hampered by my complete ignorance on how user scripts work. I only got it installed "correctly" a few minutes before COB.
My best guess, at this point, is that the script was installed, but the browser didn't know which sites to run it on.

G'day btw :)

aye
i have had a go on the cleverbot AI earlier.
It insisted that I myself was a bot, then proceeded to rick roll me.
Classic stuff.

Cpanel usage questions, shouldn't they be on webmasters.SO?
:|
isn't it used for administering servers ?
in a clicky clicky way
most of the questions that involve cpanel are from people that have no idea what they are doing
I think that last statement is, sadly, becoming more generally true
I think I am just bitter. Question starts looking like a regular rewrite question and end with a "I am using cpanel, I am no server guy, how I do that in cpanel"
the trouble with products like cpanel is that if you make server administration simple enough for idiots to do then sooner or later you find that idiots are configuring servers
3
11:53
They don't configure. They click buttons
it's worse than windows
12:12
Any of you lot have any opinions on firewall distros? I'm looking to shortlist a few for evaluation.
(Needs QoS/Multi-homed/Failover as a minimum)
Probably not what you have in mind but we're getting good results from MS Forefront TMG
Yeah, that was a consideration and I've heard good things about it, but it's probably out of our price range.
Also, I'm mostly looking to setup a layer-3 device. No DPI needed.
pfsense?
people seem to like it
12:27
Yep, that's on my list.
m0n0wall is liked too
Very handy. Cheers,
at least it gives you some names
Yeah. I had Smoothwall down, but IPCop and Endian seem to be worth a look. Endian does a commercial certified hardware+support thing, too.
12:41
they still exist?
should have called in today.... hung over.
2
I should have called in today in favor of getting hung over.
I wanted to stay home and play portal 2
@DanBig: Likewise. First time in ages I've actively been anticipating a video game. :)
@ChrisS Just a rough night? Or something special?
12:49
It's pretty good. Glados is especially snarky in this one.
.Anyone here have a CCNA?
@DanBig Nope. I am totally cert-less. I've debated if they would something worth perusing. Perhaps, for some, it would add credibility to my opinions and suggestions?
I'm cert-less as well. I was thinking a CCNA would be a good start.
Well, a quick one, at least. MCITP is in the cards, just not right now.
@jscott, when you get a minute, can you install the dropbox client on a machine? That way we both get our free space bonus. :)
@jscott Last day of Tax Season... so we went out last night (accounting firm).
@DanBig Oh sorry, didn't know I had to install it.... I just thought the referal sign-up was enough.... One sec.
@ChrisS Lots of last minute filers then?
@jscott, that would be too easy.
13:05
@jscott Our cutoff was last Thursday, if you didn't have your info to us by then we wouldn't file a normal return; up through yesterday early afternoon we would file an extension however, and that's always fun for the tax people. I'm just glad that last week went very smoothly technology-wise. That week before it's done is like the calm before a storm that might blow over, or might deluge you in lighting and tornadoes.
@DanBig Did that do it? It's installed and running now.
Got it, thanks!
@DanBig I have a CCNA
fwiw
pretty useful, although the course material is still a little out of date.
@TomOConnor, i manage a couple 800 series routers, and thats about it. I dont have any spare gear to play on, so i'm looking for something like an online trainer. (or a free router, if anyone has a spare one)
I think i could study up and watch training vids in my spare time, and play on a spare router and knock out the cert pretty quick
Download a copy of GNS3
then tftp the IOS off your router, and simulate it with GNS3
or google for the right ios binary
13:15
I'll take a look, thanks.
@TomOConnor Did you ever post the source for isdisconnected.info?
Do you know the rough costs for the tests?
@CodyHarlow i didn't get round to it yet.
@TomOConnor OK.
@jscott, did you sign up with 2 email addresses?
13:17
@DanBig It varies widely.
@DanBig Yes, I don't have the original d/l
Used an alias and your link from chat history.
@CodyHarlow @Jacob was asking me about that the other day. I need to talk to my other developers first.
@TomOConnor Yeah, I can understand that. I'd like to get into Django and looking at a project would be awesome.
So, apparently I'm going to Kentucky next month. I'm a little frightened, since I've never been to the mid-west (sorry to the brits/@coredump for the localization :))
someone, please, reassure me that I won't be wrapped in a confederate flag and forced to mate with my cousin
@MarkM Isn't that where @ScottPack is from?
13:22
@Holocryptic His profile says Ohio
@MarkM, I've only been to Lexington, and it was quite nice.
Nah, when he was younger
I'll ask next time he's active in chat
I'll be in Louisville for a weekend
nice 13 hour drive from Philly
Nah
There's a big three day long show there with a bunch of pretty great bands, and the girl I'm seeing wants to go too
so it'll be a nice little roadtrip
13:24
@MarkM The Google girl with the nice boobs?
@Holocryptic Yeah, that's the one
@MarkM @Holocryptic Wow, people are stalking me now. Yes, grew up and went to university in Kentucky, but now live in Ohio.
She wants to see Hot Rod Circuit play, apparently it's one of her favorite bands and this is the first time they've played in a couple of years. Not my cup of tea, but there's plenty of other bands I'd want to see there
@ScottPack NO ESCAPE
@MarkM wait, what do I have to do with Kentucky
I have some friends in Louisville, of all the places in Kentucky I would be willing to live, that's pretty much it.
Also, Kentucky is not the Mid-West. Don't kid yourself.
13:27
@coredump Nothing, I was shifting the conversation to something non-global, that's all
At best it's the less-southern-south.
Haha, so me, being born and raised in new england, and now living in Philly shouldn't feel too out of place in Louisville?
@ScottPack is that a good or bad thing ?
@MarkM Oh, you'll definitely feel out of place. Yankee.
HAhahahahaha
Well, I'm a Red Sox fan, so that word has a dirty connotation to me as well. Obviously, in a different way though.
:)
13:29
@Iain Since moving to a place that, at least, borders the Mid-West, I've been a lot happier. At least here I know that when someone smiles and says hello on the street it's because they mean it. Not because they feel obligated to by some distorted sense of "politeness" that results in rather snarky comments once your back is turned.
@MarkM After spending some time in this room the word "Socks" has some rather icky connotations as well.
6
Poor @pauska. Even poorer @pauska's laundry.
When will you be in ye olde River City, @MarkM?
may 20-22
Who called Kentucky the mid-west? Living in a "mid-west" state I take offense to that!
@ChrisS Haha, apologies
13:34
@MarkM I've heard talk of a few good bars and such, I'll try to get you a list. Off hand I do know that BlueGrass Brewery makes some good stuff.
That would be appreciated
Kentucky is definitely the South, though as pointed out it's less "South" than some of the others, like Georgia is really "South", or Mississippi, and the rest down there.
South is relative
I was just in New Orleans the other week though; that's different. They don't have the whole "South" thing going on, though they're just as slow as the rest of them down there... It's more of a Creole thing.
@ChrisS I internalize Kentucky as "southern" but in truth it is a proper border state.
13:36
As long as you're not grouping in with my state. =]
As a recent buckeye I was a little taken aback by the thought of calling KY mid-western. Hell, I find it strange to think that Ohio is often lumped into that group.
I want to find this guy and give him a hug.
Apparently that's obscene or tasteless, according to my webfilter. Shame on you @MarkM
@Holocryptic It's a link from @MarkM. Are you surprised?
Your webfilter blocks lamebook?
I would die
13:41
@Holocryptic That's pretty impressive that it was caught, unless it's a well known url...
Not particularly @ScottPack
It just got posted this morning, it must blacklist all of lamebook
@ChrisS Don't worry, it's lets plenty of other things through
I should just change my name to NSFW
2
@MarkM Oh, and on a side note. I'm pretty sure my cousin lives in Philly. If I find out you're dating her, I'll have to kill you. Just sayin
13:44
@Holocryptic: Don't want him moving in on your territory? :P
Is she like 5'1, have reddish brown hair, and amazing tits?
Because, if so, too late.
I live in Virginia. That's not code for cousin-fucker.
:)
I love big boobs
3
@markm, at this point, i feel you've broken some sort of rule. You have mentioned this lass' rack several times, yet there is distinct lack of images.
@DanBig brings up a good point. Pics or it never happend.
13:49
gimme a sec
And pics must have date and time stamp. With you in it. Clothed damn you!
Mornin'
Wait, clothed?
Jacob isn't here, it should be ok.
@DanBig I don't need to see big hairy man ass. I'd be fine with her...
OH, misread. Yes, no man ass.
13:50
@DanBig
Thats the best I do for now
@MarkM Thumbnail fail.
MYSPACE THUMBNAIL!
Not a thumbnail, I snip-tooled the rest of the pic
FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU!
hahaha
13:51
I'm gonna have to bow out of chat if you guys get nsfw
s/bow out/pussy out/
Well come to think of it, IE9 is nsfw
AHEM
So @Holocryptic Does that look like your cousin?
Usually I look my cousin in the face, not drool in her rack. So couldn't tell you.
13:54
Well, check it out next time and let me know
@MarkM @coredump, please try to keep it PC/neutral. I know no women ever visit this chat room, but if you ever think that might change you'll need to be nice to them (even when they're not here).
@Holocryptic I usually drool on my cousin, she is hot.
hahaha
@ChrisS It's not any different than someone shouting BOOBS and it getting 9 stars immediately.
You Brazilians and your funky ways.
13:56
@Holocryptic too hot, not many clothing flying around.
that's why sexual harassment charges are hard to convict anyone here... And that's why I would be probably arrested on my second week at a job in the US.
@GregD Get your IE10, rated 10/10, of course... ie.microsoft.com/testdrive
I always thought Hyppy was a woman...
A what?
@coredump People in the US have a lot of misconceptions as to what constitutes sexual harassment. Basically the only thing covered is if you use a position of authority (typically if you're the other person's boss) to get something sexually related out of a subordinate. There's plenty of ways to abstract that and make ingenious arguments... but it's still what you're working with.
@MarkM [Sexist remark goes here]
14:05
@voretaq7 [Slightly snarky remark]
@jscott That flaming pile of crap they called IE9 just came out...
@coredump [Mock Offense]
@ChrisS Haven't tried IE9, is it that bad?
@Holocryptic i apologize if i've ever offended your cousin
@voretaq7 [Observation about country profiling and comparisson to @Jacob]
14:06
@ChrisS doesn't have to be "to get" and doesn't have to be "a subordinate" -- at least not according to the EEOC and relevant case law in the great state of New York
@Zypher I've got you on my short list, sir.
@ChrisS I think MS wants to join the Firefox version increment race.
@Holocryptic It's really not all that bad; it's better than IE8 at least. It's prettier, a touch faster, and has support for one whole web standard published in the last 10 years.
@coredump [Comment about "extra letters" and demand for tea and strumpets]
IE = MS Chrome Downloader
14:07
lawlz
@Holocryptic hahah she is safe now
@coredump IE = misspelling. It's supposed to be "AIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! [THUD]"
3
@voretaq7 As noted, that's a rudimentary summary and some lawyers are very good at coming up with inventive arguments.
@voretaq7 [Comment about sexual orientation and profession of the progenitors]
@ChrisS My rudimentary summary is "Don't speak to anyone - it's the only way to be safe"
14:09
@voretaq7 I'm no expert in an additional laws NY might have come up with too.
@coredump [This conversation sponsored by SF MadLibs]
@voretaq7 The problem with that, is that you now have to contend with people thinking you're "creepy", what with you staring at them and all.
@voretaq7 I am from a latin country. I speak with everyone, hug, invite to drinks and touch a lot.
@ChrisS I don't know that we have specific laws that define sexual harassment but the case rulings are pretty clear: If you breathe you can be sued.
@Holocryptic I saw a case a couple years ago where some woman filed a suit because her boss(s) (can't remember if it was multiple) "stared at her" all the time. Of course she was hot and wore clothing that would make a Brazilian man blush. I think it got settled out of court, I'll see if I can Google it.
14:12
@voretaq7 isn't that the general case anyway in the US?
@coredump I'm a sysadmin - we're crude, blunt, and generally awful human beings. The good part is that the women I've met in the profession don't scream sexual harassment every 30 seconds (which to my mind is a good thing: If any of the women I worked with cried sexual harassment I'd be inclined to take it seriously)
shoot them all and let god sort them out
@RobertMoir or shot em all and let the doctor sort it out?
either way. It's all good
the main thing is that i get entertained
just never agree to a paternity test
2
14:14
@Iain yes, but in the case of "sexual harassment" allegations it can be a real career ender...
@voretaq7 Allegations being the important word. It doesn't so much matter what the end results are, it is the complaint that matters.
@voretaq7 me too. but I am also brazilian :) It's not a legend that we talk about sex all day :)
@ScottPack Again, not sure if your state is different but around here you have to be careful what you say in public. If you lose the case and went overboard with your public allegations that might well become slander.
14:16
@ScottPack ayup. Guilty until... fuck it, she screamed harassment, you're fired and we're putting up a billboard just so nobody gets the wrong idea about the company!
@ChrisS Slander/libel is always up for grabs, granted. In "theory" any good lawyer should help keep their client on the appropriate side of that line.
@ChrisS Winning a suit for slander doesn't erase the stigma of a sexual harassment charge - if it's high-profile enough that the charge made it into the papers I doubt you could salvage a career after that...
@voretaq7 Good point... though you could always just move to a small town in Ohio and make a living being a farmer or something. =]
@ChrisS Are you thinking of someone in particular? I do have lots of farmers in my neck of the woods.
I can hire any of you down here.
I also pay well.
We also don't care about 'distracting breasts'
14:21
Does anyone else think SF should dump gravatar?
@GregD wins the on-topic skid-marks badge!
@coredump I beg to differ. I think you care deeply about 'distracting breasts'. You just express your concern in a different manner.
@coredump I didn't say it wasn't a gravatar of boobs
@GregD meh. What's wrong with gravatar?
@ScottPack I've considered that when I retire (in 60 years) I might like to manage a herd of alpaca. My grandparents have a farm that's been fallow for years (play my cards right and it's well within reason that I end up with it).
14:24
@Holocryptic It slows SF down enough to be annoying. I can't click to close a question until it's loaded the chat box on the right column
@ChrisS My in-laws neighbors raise alpacas up in NE Ohio. It seems to be the thing to do.
@ScottPack @ChrisS lot's of .gov subsidies to raise alpacas
@GregD Haven't really noticed it, but then I can't vote to close so I can't really say much one way or another...
@ScottPack It's one of those things you'll never get rich from, but if you like doing it in the first place, it's a pretty low requirements job and a decent way to supplement retirement from the farmers I know.
Seriously, 2800 IP addresses assigned to one NIC????
0
Q: Multiple IP addresses on Network Card Win2003

When I add the additional addresses on a network interface in Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition, starting from 2800 addresses there are some problems: Icons do not create, delete or copy from the desktop by explorer. Internet Explorer does not run. Event Viewer is not right. When i try t...

So awesome
14:31
@GregD . . . "Hi, my organization just extorted a /16 out of someone and we want to assign all the addresses to one server with one NIC. We can do that, right?"
@voretaq7 Sure, but your icons will be a fubar. No big.
@GregD That's evokes one of my favorite sayings from tdwtf: In regards to maximum limits "If you have to ask, you're doing it wrong"
3
@voretaq7 That question is so full of fail I don't know where to begin
2800 is okay, but damn if 2801 doesn't make your NIC gag.
@GregD You can ASSIGN all the addresses you want. Can't promise the machine will work when you're done though.
Maybe he's unclear of what TOE is??
14:36
@GregD I think he's just unclear about life in general
Well without being rude to the OP, I have to wonder just who people are hiring nowadays and how much he's making.
Probably more than I am
@GregD sadly the same people they where hiring in the 90's ... those people just started keeping a lower profile onces they figured out they where the first ones on the chopping block or migrated to the SMB space where if you drop your monetary expectations you can still make a good living
@GregD: Perhaps he's bonding all those IPs to make his connection 2800 times faster? Bound to work...

Q: Help with apache to nginx rewrite rules

amarcHello I need help converting some Apache .htaccess rules to nginx ones. Hope someone around more experienced could help me. Here are my rules: 1 RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.url.ba [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://url.ba/$1 [R=301,L] RewriteRule ^api\.php /index.php?c=api...

Seriously
He can't read the damned documentation?
14:43
@coredump Reading is hard.
@coredump Isn't there a script around to convert the most common .htaccess directives automatically?
@SmallClanger It's a good thing I wasn't drinking anything when I read that or you'd owe me a keyboard and monitor.
Good morning/afternoon - everyone managed to see 'Game of Tits' on HBO/Sky Atlantic then?
Nel
Nel
OH YEAH
Wait. There's a show about boobs? How come I wasn't informed of this?
Nel
Nel
14:45
You already know the reason.
Sean Bean has tits?
I wonder if this is some sort of bot being tested - serverfault.com/questions/115838/… the answer is the start of a comment to another answer
he does yes, but there were a fair number of others out, not to a 'sparticus' level but still
@ChrisS never saw one.
@Chopper3: It'll be another box set for me. Don't have HBO/Atlantic.
14:50
Doctor Who will be back this easter
can't wait to watch it
@coredump - ditto
And of course his redhead companion.
@SmallClanger isohunt.com is your friend :)
@coredump Not a DW fan but she's just lovely
that 2800 IPs on one NIC person *shakes head*

We _really_ need a "closed due to extreme stupidity" option
@Chopper3 I am a Rose Tyler fan myself, but Amy Pond is great :)
I hope my "teach the guy how to fish" answer is enough to the rewrite question guy
but I think he really wanted someone to rewrite all his rules
15:03
@coredump Hey, if you can get free consultant services, why not? :)
Not that SF should be the place for it.
Expert sex change!
Howdy all
@coredump I used the following in a presentation once; "Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, lease a man a fishing rod and he'll give you all the fish he catches at a below-cost price, you can then sell him a processed fish substitute at great margin until he dies of malnutrition then take back the rod and auction it off to his enemy - and that is my recommendation to this board ladies and gentlemen!"
3
I am afraid of you now @Chopper3
this is normal
15:10
Hmmm, Amy Pond is quite nice...
15:25
@Chopper3 "Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day..."
@SmallClanger Set a man of fire and he'll be warm the rest of his life.
2
Indeed :)
That could partially explain HP's acquisition of Compaq.
15:43
@BartSilverstrim They deserve each other.
Hate compaq, dislike HP. Bleh.
@BartSilverstrim Octosquid.
Anyone know what I'm missing here? It sounds like at launch it's triggering UAC. He's insisting not. serverfault.com/questions/261269/…
@BartSilverstrim I'm with you. It's gotta be writing to %programfiles% or %systemroot%
How does he know it doesn't trigger UAC if he didn't write it? It could write a temp log to %systemroot% or something.
15:51
It might also be after a HKLM reg key that a standard user can't get at
Dat be what I'mma' thinking.
Had our DNS servers down for 2.5 hours. THAT was fun. Now to hunt up other outsourcers.
@sysadmin1138 Are they currently in-house?
I was going to tell him to get sysinternals tools to find out what it's exactly doing, but then decided not to take the time.
@MarkM If they were, they wouldn't have gone down 0:).
15:52
I was going to ask if it was MediaTemple
People really forget about DNS until it goes down (Know from experience)
This is the kind of failure that makes people think.
Also they don't like paying for it :)
@sysadmin1138 the problem is they stop thinking as soon as the DNS servers come back.
@voretaq7 Yes they do.
It's the same thing with email. Don't want to pay a lot for it, freak out when it goes down.

Way back in March, I asked some of my Tweeps for advice on how they kept track of their time to be able to bill clients. From that and some of my own research I was able to make a decent list of potential time tracking tools to use as I forge ahead with independent contracting. [...]

Wes I've been enjoying your posts.
Whoops, will have to tell him when he's in.
@DaveDrager I can usually get people to pay for email
Maybe I'm just a bad salesman, but they think since Google offers it for free, or their ISP offers it for free, that they don't want to pay $15/mo for it
hey guys
Aren't you in school?
16:02
@BartSilverstrim spring break
I smashed the rep cap twice over at How stuff works beta with 600 rep in 2 days
@voretaq7: bwhahah.
That is awesome!
@Jacob, no offense to you, or anyone else in the beta, but seriously, can't just about anything be learned about "how stuff works" by going to its (most likely) wiki on that topic?
or going to www.howstuffworks.com?
16:12
Exactly, personally, I see no use for that subsite except to generate global rep by a copy pasta
Which is an awesome website, by the by
@DanBig well, I've learned alot. I wish I could show you josh's metapost it explains it.
@DanBig Couldn't you say that about a lot of StackExchange sites?
There's no upvotes on Wikipedia. You can't ask questions on Wikipedia.
@Josh, possibly, but I dont browse them, so I dont know what else is out there besides the main ones.
I have acquired a GPS receiver. It is very nice. Indoor accuracy of ±10M
16:18
We just got Bomgar setup here. Shiny.
Here's my response on the HTW closed beta's meta re "Why does this site exits and why not just link to howstuffworks.com?":
> Or if not howstuffworks.com, why not Wikipedia? Using Wikipedia as an example same question could apply to a lot of Stack Exchange sites. But that's the principle of StackExchange. howstuffworks.com or Wikipedia can be a great source for your answer, but your answer should stand alone. By creating a large volume of questions here, even if they link to howstuffworks.com as sources, we can eventually replace howstuffworks.com with a better, community-run site!
Personally I feel that site can be of great value
16:32
I love the SE network. SF is of much greater value than expert-sexchange ever was. For the most part (to me anyway), the SE network is about solving problems, not trying to be the be-all end-all of link backs.
5
@DanBig and usually you get a working solution (or three) here.
2
@voretaq7, EE was never of any value.
@DanBig I think I got one or two useful answers from it
out of maybe 100000 referrals there
SF is definitely the best place to find answers that are really just spam for windows password recovery tools and are deleted within moments - it's easily the best place for that
@voretaq7 why BCS just didn't replace find ... with echo $dir to check their (mis)understanding I'll never know
16:47
@Iain because it takes a long-ass time to process that many directories :-)
@Iain I'm relatively confident in saying that the subdirectory limit is lower than the max number of elements bash can process in a list though :-)
@DanBig I don't think it's the end-all-be-all of linkbacks; I think it's more than just getting questions answered, I think it's a better kind of * knowledge base*
I'd rather find information on a StackExchange site than on Wikipedia!
@voretaq7 I think you're safe too
and I say that as someone who has hit that limit a few times (broken cleanup code can really ruin your day -- fortunately you can umount a tmpfs filesystem and all those directories go away :-)
