Jaipur IPA or Viking Gold (from peerless) are my favourites and there is no such thing as too much hop !
@jscott indeed, our nephew really likes his beers and especially the dark ones but he has a soft spot for the oddly flavoured stuff too - cherry and chocolate etc
I've not found a cherry + beer I can agree with, but I keep trying. There's a number of chocolate beers I'm OK with, although I don't care for candy/sweets.
@jscott Wetherspoons ( a national pub chain) have a twice yearly beer festival. Last spring they had an American beer called Cherry Bomb which was horrid
@ShaneMadden shrug Mebee. Some of the new users I looked at seemed like they were full grown. Unless it's work vacation for them and they're now bored out of their minds at home and still want to think computery thoughts.
Last night a site on my server was attacked. It appears that someone hacked the DNS record of a russian porn sites file server and changed the CNAME to my sites URL. I changed my .htaccess to 403 the pages that are coming from the porn site but it made no difference. Is there a way I can filter t...
My apache server is currently getting DDoSed. It looks like all the traffic is referrals from the file server of a russian file sharing site. How can I block only the traffic which is coming from the compromised site?
@MarkHenderson I wonder if it's even about being upset. I wonder if people get their sites fuzzed to see what kind of goodies drops out. I wonder if it's more about exploration than anger.
@WesleyDavid I don't know, I know it drops for rejected flags, and the algorithm was changed once that caused a drop for people, but it shouldn't drop of its own accord
@jscott I love the cat in the hat. When I read it to my son before bed time he ends up getting all razzed up and excited because I get so excited with all the ryhming words
Are there any open source/free alternatives to EZProxy?
For those who are not familiar with EZProxy, it's a proxy server that allows users to access institutional subscriptions (like journal subscriptions) that work based on your IP range, like if your university library is subscribed to an on...
@WesleyDavid TomTom has good answers and good advice - but we came to the conculstion that he must often drink before heading onto the intertubes to dispense advice
@WesleyDavid True. I swore at someone on Super User today. The comments have since been cleaned up (at my request), but sometimes the LART sits around un-used for too long
@MarkHenderson I once had a notion to get 10K'd on SuperUser just so I could have some weight to fling around. Once the drugs wore off and I regained use of my frontal lobe I discarded that idea.
Not only was this question a clusterfuck, I find it funny how the top voted answers are from newcomers who likely have no idea how longtimers wish they could get A's upvoted that many times: serverfault.com/questions/327738/…
@WesleyDavid Us mods have asked for the ability to view referral and visit stats for specific questions, but I don't know if the stats that detailed exist for easy consumption
@WesleyDavid Ohh, Hanns-G, why didn't you say so. Ok, do me a favour, go to Start > Run > and type shutdown /s - if the computer turns off, your computer is incompatible with our software. Sorry.
@MarkHenderson hrm, I'll have to use that description. But yeah, it's easier to try and walk them through the shortcuts then to navigate the start menu
@RobMoir I've been training my toddler to respond to the word "Stop" with "Hammer Time". In retrospect, it was probably a pretty poor idea with regard to safety. Oh well.
I have a dual-boot system, Windows 7 on my C: drive and Server 2008 R2 on my K: drive. Two separate hard drives.
I set up Hyper-V and everything was running great, building VMs left and right and loving life. My Win7 drive became corrupt and i blew it away and reinstalled windows 7. In my Ser...
@ScottPack I did the same because it was cute, then thought "hmm... that may be dangerous." Turns out, she can tell the difference between a cute "Stop" "Hammer Time!" and "STOP!!!".
I gave him four meta threads talking about what is on/off topic, pointed him to specific parts of these threads that said "If a sysadmin wouldn't do it, then it doesn't belong"
2
(and no sysadmin would dual-boot a freaking hypervisor)
So. @Mark. I think you need to go outside, throw a few on the barbie, and relax a bit. Look at what happened the last time someone threw a hissy fit at a mod.
@ScottPack Its all good, weather is shit here today anyway. I was writing that at about 6am, since then I took my kid to church where he ran around like a nutter which was fun, so I'm happy now
@Jacob They probably will if you call their licensing department, however that'll do you no good. You want to talk with your VAR of choice. They have licensing smarts and will guide you just fine.
@Jacob Here;s the MVLS number. I've called them and asked them questions about appropriate use and to straighten out some purchase snafus: (866) 230-0560
Oh, prices? No. MSFT will never tell you prices for VLKs because they don't sell VLKs. They sell to distributors who sell to resellers who sell to you.
Expect about $200 per license for a Windows 7 Professional VLK
@Jacob If you want to go system builder, perhaps. Just remember that it's not properly licensed if you don't install the system builder copy of Windows through the Windows OPK tool.
@Jacob XP to 7 isn't upgrade eligible from my recollection. So your only hope of getting Professional at a cheaper rate is OEM/system builder
Good evening, how could I deploy my ASP.NET MVC3 web application on my host's ftp? (which happens to be somee.com) I have already uploaded my entire mvc3 web project folder to the ftp, now I just need to fix the connection string in web.config to:
workstation id=NHL20112012Season.mssql.somee.co...
:2752281 [tla ~]$ telnet NHL20112012Season.mssql.somee.com ms-sql-s
Trying 204.27.57.75...
Connected to NHL20112012Season.mssql.somee.com.

@MarkHenderson (or anyone) in that situation, flagging it is correct, and then you should ping a Community Team member in the mod room so that the revisions can be adjusted. ie, note what serverfault.com/posts/342054/revisions looks like now...
@MarkHenderson @ShaneMadden - that question, in hindsight, perhaps could have been closed rather than migrated. As for "It sez hyperV and W2008 R2 send it back", that's just crazy talk. What if the question was "I'm running W2008R2 as my desktop at home and want to run Grand Theft Auto III in a hyperV'd XP session, what graphics card drivers should I install..."? (It might still be a lousy SU question but its certainly not suddenly a SF question because hyperV and W2008r2 are involved.
@RobMoir Perhaps, but in a comment that got deleted, I did state that I was sending it to SU in the hope that someone with dual-booting experience could help, and that if SU didn't want it, no hard feelings, please close (well, to that extent anyway)
@MarkHenderson oh yes. I think SF/you acted in good faith there because its on the edge. I simply mean that if they felt it was OT there too it could have been closed with no drama
Or they have a guy that's just really really good at keeping his voice neutral and at estimating at what time he's going to finish speaking. And never sleeps.
I can imagine it now. (puts on a pompous british accent) "Ah yes good sir at international business machines, I am enquiring about your storage area network array, but only the latest model please, the 1937 model. Or a prototype of the 1938 model"
2
"Yes, two words of storage will be enough, but I need latency of under 15 seconds per IO please"
"Oh, you charge extra for the MPIO feature? Oh, and it's extra for a standby controller? Oh I see, and it's extra for the clustering... and extra for the WAN plugin... and extra for replication... I see..."
I'm fortunate that our account manager at Dell used to be an employee of another company I used to work at, so he put me on the top pricing tier before I'd even made a single purchase
In fact, when I resigned from that first job, my employer actually submitted my CV to another company on my behalf, where I've now been working for 5 years
