My husband's brother used to own "dybedahl.se" but he let it lapse 3 years ago. I registered it a few months back - and am now getting stuff on a mailinglist that my SiL signed up for. Which has been bouncing for about 3 years
you should inform them that you never registered that account and then order them to stop (unterlassungserklärung) , if they still send you mail, sue them and let them pay you a fine for it.
I replied that they now have instructed me to take over another customers account. Which is very possibly illegal for me to do. They never responded back
usually when i sue someone it takes a few hours to get the paperwork done, meet with a lawyer , and wait a few years.. then there might be some more hours involved.. personally i see suing someone as time investment in the future. and i hate guys who think they are above the law and can behave like they want. same for gov or coorps..
i would not say a lot, but there are enough situations. as i did hate to pay a lawyer for that i got insurance :) possible next step (not decided yet) is some law courses myself.. i find the lack of skill in certain law fields , especially with IT, disturbing.
it takes me more to explain the lawyer what he should do and why, getting the correct sentence etc than to just do it myself. sadly noone cares about a private letter.
examples: tailgate on interstate, or cutting in to reach the exit. comment flaming when someone threads to kill you f.e.
the ladder came from some small shooter game i played a few years ago, where the community was very insulting once they knew your german.
it did get less (the suing) during the last years, cause as you said, it takes much time and i rather use it with wife.
while i do get that a lot of people breach at least some of the laws accidently (IP law f.e. ) on traffic there is no excuse.. and i hate to be in a situation where i can die because of some shithead ignoring common "street" laws.
Suing other people should be reserved as a last resort of justice. I'm not arguing whether you're in the right or not, but suing people as a "future investment" is an act of selfish frivolity if you ask me
@MathiasR.Jessen there is no justice in this world anymore. While i do agree that it might be selfish i would not think it is a frivolity. i gave up in having an impact on the world, so fuck them, if they can game the system, ruin my life with their decisions i could not care less about them.
Justice is an ideal to pursue, not a given.On the other hand, law can be both the way the powerful people perpetuate their power and the only tool for the powerless to use their rights. In between, there's always people that find a way to game the system.
Wasting time, money and effort on pursuing legal back-and-forth towing inherently works against building sustainability in a world filled with inequality. Each minute any legal professional pours away on a lawsuit over something as indifferent as an insult, is another minute not spent on something viable or meaningful. By suing people when you would have been just as fine off not suing someone, you do have an impact on the world. You're making it slightly shittier.
while i do agree with the overall points i think you make i think this is not as easy as it seems . where do you draw the line of what is meaningful and what isn't? is the happiness of one person significantly more important than another? We could start now with freedom of speech vs religion but i guess we can end here.
so lets get back to flaming fuckin web configuration pages loaded with JS, taking 20+ seconds to respond, and have no fucking option for batch processing..
so what do you do to relieve stress build during work, commuting, or just reading? am i that far off that it is better to not use violence for that? And at least for me the sports i do build up more "hate" than relieving..
@DennisNolte Let's say person X attacks you in an online discussion, below-the-belt, with nasty insults that aims to demean your persona. Why in the world would you bother formally retaliating against somebody who's already been wasting your time. Does it make you happier wasting even more time on this asswipe?

i know, but it is not that easy. while not personally a friend of mine had to deal with this IRL. he got a thread to his life, called the cops, they did find the names of the offender, but there is some group of people suggesting you to withdraw the notice to the police.
@Dan sucessfull, sometimes, money compensation not worth talking about. Seeing the face of them loosing, priceless. But more often than that i was just "random" damages to house/care etc.
@RobM I'm not complaining too much because I do have other stuff to do, but I've spent all morning trying to get on to do some work that has now been canned because th esystem is fucked. So no paid work for me today
@DennisNolte I should add, I do support people fighting for justice and I'm definitely not someone who suffers from the bystander effect - I'm just struggling to think of any time I could have realistically sued someone
its the question what you sue for, if you (bad example) have lots of contact with religios people it is pretty easy to think they force their religion onto you: think about the christ symbol in churches, the clothes, church bells etc.
there a at least a 100 "valid" reasons i could sue, where i do not because i know there is no point, and i won't win, because of believes which are just plain shit.
not judging religion here, dont get me wrong, but do not make noises..
similiar: the air polution, why is it accepted that i have thousands of people arround me in cars polluting the air arround me without me having a benefit of "them" driving arround for personal gain.

i was trying to point at the possibilities (now/10years/whatever) that there is no need for the current traffic system to be so ineffectiv, noisy, and polluting
it is usually not meant as an insult ofc. (hint: did you see some truck drivers modify their carbon cars with large black smoke output?) However, if your decision to drive has an impact on me, should there not be at least some sort of discussion held over which rights should be "reduced"?
@Dan people accept "reducing" of personal rights in ways which are strange for me to understand. And as a minority i most of the time am unable to change this situation.
to close the "discussion circle" back to IT "stuff": think of privacy, all the cameras on public ground, closed source government work etc.
oh man. We just redeployed one of our webservers. Checking monitoring afterwards I noticed it got a extra 2TB data partition. Turns out there still was a external USB HDD connected to it from migrating datacenters.
I've made templates for the most common ones we do. So now, the next time I need to do an AD migration, for example, 20 of the 30 pages are written and generalized in a find/replace friendly way
I'm playing with setting up SCCM (in a lab) but is there any full documentation? There's bits like opening ports in Windows firewall for SQL server, but nothing that covers everything. Or am I looking in the wrong places? YouTube videos doesn't really cover everything...

The majority of my Exchange users are all on Windows 7 and have no issues (at least using Outlook...) but a subset of the executives are ardent Mac users running Outlook 2011 for OS X. One of these clients is prompted every 5-10 minutes for credentials. Ticking the checkbox to remember credential...
it's just that CV to hire rate is about 0.4%, so statistically, we'll need to get through 500 cv's, a few dozen phone interviews and a dozen or so face-to-faces

Ah, I forget about the CV thing that everyone else but the US does. I'd have to build one of those up. Nobody here wants to look at a 4-page CV listing. Surest way to get tossed in the trash.
You could convince your correspondent that SORBS is a giant steaming pile of crap that they shouldn't be using. It might be easier than getting delisted.
Laziness prevails sometimes...I didn't want to look through a folder of thousands of files to ensure there were pairs (say, *.xml and a *.dat output file to go with it) with the same filename, so I wrote a quick c# app to find them for me
