It's plain that you have absolutely no idea what you're doing, and not even a basic knowledge of Linux. Remember that this is a site for professional system administrators as well, meaning that questions must be relevant to professional system administration. This question no longer appears to qualify. You are welcome to edit and improve it, though, and it may be reopened. — Michael Hampton ♦ 54 secs ago

I imagine the DV is because your question is quite poor. It shows you have an error, it also shows that there are errors in certain files but you don't show the relevant lines from the files. The error is quite clear too you are missing a module, it needs to be provided. How it is provided depends upon information you haven't supplied e.g. which distro/OS you're using. We might infer that you're using CPanel from your use of easyapache but who knows as you don't say. You also say that easyapache gives an error message that you don't provide - all in all a poor effort really. — Iain 2 mins ago

@strugee Ugh, well, it's 07:20 here, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm sharing my bed with a "morning person" lately, so I was up before 05:00.
I used to deal with things that wake me up before noon by killing them, but not anymore... I must be getting soft.
11:41
Never thought that in 2014 I would have to Google "Compatible Windows 98 flash drives"...
@Travis: which dark god did you piss off?
IIRC there was a universal USB driver floating around
technical-assistance.co.uk/kb/usbmsd98.php actually that looks exactly like the site I used
raymond.cc/blog/… this indicates you need a windows 98 disk...
@JourneymanGeek No kidding. Just found that one and downloaded both sets. He was using an IDE tray for a simple DOS backup that you could hot swap the drives. I figured using USB would be simpler and easier since the exact tray isn't available any more. Plus it would be as simple as him running to wal-mart to pick up a replacement
but meh, you can find one in the deepest darkest corners of dis or something
ooh, I remember those from when I was a kid
@Travis: special needs system?
@JourneymanGeek Yep. Runs his engine dyno
That sounds kinda like...
hardware failure would be a PITA
11:54
That's why he has the HD tray. Lightning struck and got the HD. Lost all his dyno results for over 7k engines
does windows 98 even do smb?
or some... civilised file backup method over network?
@JourneymanGeek Um, yes?
heh. ASSUMING you can get an IDE hdd now.
No network on it
@MichaelHampton: its been a while
11:55
I have plenty of IDE HDD's sitting on my shelf actually :)
actually, I think I have a windows 98 VM somewhere. Not exactly sure why.
@JourneymanGeek Windows 3.1 even did it!
OK, Windows for Workgroups
Gawd, the back of my head is full of shit I'd almost rather forget.
@MichaelHampton: I THINK I didn't really have a network to speak of until I got XP
and that was this completely screwed up, ICS based network with a hub
Oh. this install is pretty neat
it has display doctor installed with a key that fell off the back of a truck
@MichaelHampton now you've refreshed it :(
@Travis So, wait, ... this janky system he has just lost a shit-tonne of data for him... so naturally, he's trying to figure out how to use this system again?
Sounds like a "short-bus-special" kinda guy to me.
12:05
@HopelessN00b: some of these systems can't really be upgraded
(of course, if something like say the motherboard fails, you're pretty well and truely screwed)
Fun question on physics: "Can internet speed be faster than speed of light?"
@Hennes The only thing in the universe faster than the speed of light is the speed with which a user can fuck up a computer system.
Agreed.
Last time I installed this toolbar the system got fucked up.
Lets try it again and see if it works this time.
(typical user thoughts after a reinstall)
@HopelessN00b He can't really upgrade. It's DOS or Windows 98 so he chose to keep the Windows 98 version. He's an engine builder, not a computer nerd :)
Well, if he upgrades, he basically would have to throw out the dyno and get a new one ;p
12:13
@Hennes Considering that fiber optic cabling uses light to transfer data, I'd say no.
@NathanC Well, it's probably theoretically possible. Speed of light in a vacuum vs speed of light through air and glass... you can run into some funky effects with that.
Or speed of light in and Einstein-Bose condensate
@Hennes Well, yeah, but don't those slow the speed down to some absurdly low value? (Not to mention you don't find many super-cooled cesium atom cloud inside fiber optic cables these days).
1) They do slow it down a lot.
2) No? Then why do they break so easily.? ;-)
@Hennes Users, man. With a few billion users on the internet, it's nothing shot of miraculous that the system stays up for more than a microsecond at a time.
12:20
There is a lot of effort spent to that user can get their porn read their mail.
@HopelessN00b Sysadmins, man.
2
@MichaelHampton Yeah? We're miracle workers, right?
@HopelessN00b Yeah, miracle workers who get treated like kitchen workers.
@MichaelHampton Nah, kitchen workers get a minimum level of respect, on account of people not wanting their food spit in.
13:08
Alright, got my coffee, now we can talk.
@HopelessN00b My user's know that if they don't be nice to me their stuff won't work the next time they login
Got lucky on that one! I asked about a return for that IDE HDD tray and told them it was DOA. It was past the 14 day return limit. They told me throw it away and they will refund 100% of the amount. Amazing.

Is there some extension to Murphy's Law that whatever the worst case scenario, that's what will happen?
@ChrisS No, that is Murphy's Law.
And our ERP system just crapped itself again. Yep, it's Monday.
VoIP provided hiccuped for <1 minute. CEO was on a conference call - was
6
That's VoIP. It's just as reliable as the Internet.
15:08
no HA for VOIP?
Yeah, but you can't really hand off a call in progress.
@BigHomie Probably has a 60s failover time or something... It's blackbox to me, just presented as a PRI.
@ChrisS same here, a black box to me as I don't VOIP much
@MichaelHampton well that sucks.
I just envision some type of failover on the main VOIP box that determines the routes are dead and switches over. Probably very costly if at all possible, but like Chris said it's probably a 60s thing, or maybe even longer like DPD
@MichaelHampton No - Murphy's law says that if something can go wrong, it will. The first corollary says that if two things can go wrong, the one that causes the most problems will.
15:28
I'm amazed that any form of telecommunications actually work.
@BigHomie You can fail over easily enough, even in as little as one second if you know what you're doing when you put your cluster together. The problem is you can't hand over calls in progress.
@ChrisS PRI: "I don't always fail. But when I do, I fail when the CEO's on a conference call."
@NathanC What ERP
@Travis Probably never heard of it..."Winsys"
This is verbose :) I like it...
Restart. USB keyboard attached to server (KB1). USB keyboard for remote console (KB2). During POST, KB1 not working (caps-lock not producing caps light). KB2 working. RBSU settings look good (no changes made). Restart. KB1 now working during POST. Server to halt. Hookup monitor & kill remote console session (iLo cable removed). Restart. KB1 no longer working :( — user3513346 20 mins ago
15:36
@NathanC Yep...sounds like mine. Every week we run check printing...14 times out of 16 it requires me to call the company that made it to work their background DB magic so we can run checks... The owner doesn't want to spend the $500k on a new system but just bought 6 more, new machines for $250k/each
@Travis This software's old (ported to a GUI from the mid-90s) and uses Clarion TopSpeed for its databases ...so it's flat-file. It's all shared on a network drive, so one corruption basically causes operations to go to a screeching halt
To which 16-bit (!) utilities have to be run to diagnose the problem files and fix them...during which we can lose data
@MichaelHampton So I finally ditched my ancient Eterm terminal emulator.
@NathanC Ours uses FoxPro...and the rest is the same.
but now I'm using iTerm2 for my Mac... and I'm a n00b.

Q: Disable Command-W in the terminal

RalphIs there any way to disable Command+W in the terminal? On several occasions I have accidentally closed a terminal window containing important information when I meant to close a Safari tab and did not realize that the terminal was the active window.

@NathanC "The final published release of FoxPro was 2.6. Development has continued under the Visual FoxPro label, which in turn was discontinued in 2007." The programmer for our software told me that until he found a better programming language he wasn't switching....My response was...C++, C#, COBOL, HTML (I know, not programming)
15:42
Gross...
well don't onebox it
last thing we need is a onebox of gynecomastia
Somebody has gone through the hell of using LDAP in a JBoss 5 (and survived)?
@ewwhite Maybe being a SysAdmin has hardened me to the idea of just pushing whatever buttons I feel like without regard for possible consequences, but I can't imagine disabling a useful keystroke just because I do stupid sh*t on a regular basis.
@ChrisS but that's the key combination that closes the window!
@ChrisS It's a Mac. And very easy to lose track of which window has focus. Especially if you're @ewwhite and have three dozen of them open.
Though I'd just turn on the nice warning. "Hey dumbass, you have a program running in this terminal window. Are you sure you want me to just toss it?"
15:46
This is SUPER customizable software @MichaelHampton

dawudI'm trying to authenticate users of the administrative consoles (Admin, JMX, JBoss Web and JBoss WS) using an LDAP provider defined in conf/login-config.xml: <application-policy name="LDAP"> <authentication> <login-module code="org.jboss.security.auth.spi.LdapExtLoginModule" flag="re...

@MichaelHampton I used a Mac once, so I'm an expert: It's no easier to lose track of which window has focus than on any other platform.
15:55
@RobM Seen Rik Mayall's died :(
@Chopper3 just now. Shocked. Do we know why, yet?
@RobM no but he's not been right since that quad-bike accident, very talented man
true.
He feels like one of those comedians we've grown up with, from the young ones all the way through to... well "more grown up" is hardly right for his stuff but you know what I mean.
@ChrisS You really ought to see some of @ewwhite's screenshots. I was not kidding.
@MichaelHampton I know.. I usually have a dozen windows open at the same time too.. though I typically use Windows.
I suppose it's ever-so-slightly harder to lose track of which window is active in Windows, as the mouse scroll only works on the active window, regardless of what window you're points at - whereas OSX and X11 scroll whatever windows your pointing at regardless of focus.
15:59
@ChrisS Personally I prefer focus follows mouse, which is difficult to do on OS X.
which window has focus?
@ewwhite Slow day, huh?
@ewwhite None - no colored balls
@ChrisS the green window on right
top pane
Do the balls not colorize when the window is active anymore??
16:01
nope

@MichaelHampton Meh - I maintain my claim of being an Expert
Also - What idiot designed that UX?!
@MichaelHampton heh, focus-follow-mouse is possible

@JoelESalas Yeah, I kinda don't believe that
I'm trying to get a job at Tinder.

not sure I want to
because I'm not a tall white male with nice teeth
@JoelESalas I tried it Friday.
and got 14 matches over the past three days.
but I didn't realize there was a stigma...
@ewwhite What's the stigma?
so it's not just the adult Hot-or-Not...
@JoelESalas I thought people used it to meet people (friends)... not just hookups.
16:10
AH! That's quite the misunderstanding
I saw a Facebook friend on it, and mentioned it to her later... and she got embarrassed and kinda cursed me out.
@JoelESalas Plus I'm married.
I'm just doing it in the hopes that kesha's on it...

@ewwhite ehhhhhh I did the breaking up
but I will miss that white girl.

flip the causality
@JoelESalas word

@ewwhite When are you next in LA
@JoelESalas read the article!
16:30
@JoelESalas I've been going crazy selling servers with my franken-ZFS/compression/CentOS6 combination.
so I will need to be back in LA next week or the following
"Without white people I wouldn’t know what the fuck a scone is. Or that a $5,000 bicycle is a real thing."

@ewwhite You becoming a VAR??
@JoelESalas produce. I've been doing 2-3 upgrades per month
@ewwhite and her name is Samantha no less?
@JoelESalas I actually thought about @ewwhite when I read that part
@BigHomie Yep... check her blog... Bitches Gotta Eat
She makes me laugh :)
@JoelESalas The ZFS stuff was a big tech change that's driving a ton of upgrades. Add my XFS changes, LXC, newer HP hardware, snapshots...
and all of my clients are lining up
@ewwhite holy shit that gave me a seizure
16:36
@tombull89 My eyes still hurt
@ewwhite Oh my god that shit was funny. Well I'm glad to see you're makin bacon
