As a consequence of the R&D, they also work better, have better support and wider adoption. Of course, is that isn't important to you, feel free to go with something cheaper... but be prepared for it to hurt.

@cole :) sounds like a "server" I dealt with once where it was a Win2k workstation sitting under a EE's desk that was running the entire dept's Bugzilla stuff. One day they came to IT and said "how often is <x> backed up?" and I was like "what are you talking about?" Suffice to say, they had gone over 10 years of it running without a crash, etc. and no backup. I was at least a little impressed.

If you're leaving because of how management chose to handle the termination, then fine - do interviews, give your two weeks, and tell your story in the exit interview if you feel that strongly. If you quit on the spot it's probably not going to benefit you in any way ever.

In your situation, I'd probably explain to management that firing this other person over this will result in you not feeling comfortable working there and explain why. But remember, YOU FIRST. Nobody else is going to put you first.
