@MathiasR.Jessen Does it break to present the root? Been working fine for me.
hmm, but it would show then in the chain.
@mossy He makes me feel like this
wouldn't it?
@MikeyB It often doesn't but it actually should'
@MathiasR.Jessen Hmm...
22:01
probably root certificate
Dammit. Lock button on my iPhone broke
@cole iphone 5?
@cole Meh. Now if the unlock button breaks, you're in trouble.
@JoelESalas iPhone 4s
22:14
@MikeyB rofl
Fuck this phone
Maybe I should go Android
@cole go flip phone man
@RyJones lol
@cole Go Z30
@cole look at my glorious flip phone, it gets WEEK of battery life: instagram.com/p/i9osTvzDFB
22:26
Need a smartphone :P
also, these sound cool, but are not worth the hassle: atama.io/sesame.html
cole: ipad mini retina with Verizon
@MikeyB no way, I already have a Blackberry for work
@RyJones bleh
I already have a WiFi iPad 3
Work rolled out iPhone 5Cs to the field
~10 broken screens in a week
@cole old and busted Java devices and new hotness BB10 are two completely different things.
@MikeyB do not want
@cole the mini retina is so much better than the 3. I have a 3 I don't even use.
22:28
@cole It tickles my nuts for me
I hate phones.
@cole so get rid of it
I'm not forcing my kids to go without, but I'm hoping to lead by example
Hopefully I can just get work to buy me a new phone
they said in a few months they will.
and take over my cell phone for me so I don't have to pay for it
just get rid of yours and say if they expect after-hours support it comes with a free smartphone for me
im dying...
22:32
@RyJones yeah, they gave me a Blackberry for that
@cole oh cool! So retro, did they give you granny glasses and a top coat?
I use my phone for GPS and what not - so I can't really go without.
My friend recently went flip phone though
walk around with a silver-topped cane muttering about the price of using pony express to deliver telegrams
I have no idea where I was going with that one
haha
did you end up getting paid for your last hours at oldjob?
22:37
@RyJones yeah
interesting that you kind-of sudo in jira
@RyJones wat
@JoelESalas if you're a JIRA admin, you have to re-enter your password to do adminly things, and it has a little bar at the top of the page about how you're operating under escalated privs click this button to drop privs when done
@RyJones Oh yes that's cool
so you do your stuff and then click the button and you're no longer adminly
OK, here's a puzzler. Why does Chrome constantly ask me if I want my password remembered, but only on internal sites?
I click "never for this site" and it asks again next time
22:49
@RyJones Using short names?
also using chrome, -10pts
@JoelESalas no, FQDN
I suspect they're doing some strange clustering that breaks chrome's detection of "this is the same site"
It's one of the many reasons I stopped using chrome
it doesn't fucking remember passwords right

Q: Linux MD RAID resilience in situations with unpredictable power

John HargroveIf you were given a situation where you MUST use RAID for reasons outside of your control and the server with the RAID may not be on a battery backup and the building is prone to power loss, what are some things you can do to make the RAID more resilient in situations where the power is killed im...

@ewwhite "If you were in a nightmare situation, which everything-proof shield would you pick?"
22:53
Is gaming.SE just for video/digital games?
Firefox 26 correctly handles "never ask about this site again"
@MathiasR.Jessen looking for tabletop games?
@cole Yeah I have a Risk-specific question
@MathiasR.Jessen ah, only other game-related SE site I'm aware of is rpg.stackexchange.com
Anyone here avid RISK players?
22:59
ask 1986 me, who was insane about RISK and A&A
@ewwhite that's a very long and slow video sir
all I learned was computers are shaped like very colorful boxes
has anyone ever heard of MAXTA?
I watched a video about them once
they just closed a round: crunchbase.com/company/maxta
@RyJones I watched the video and I think I know less about what it is now.
23:08
@ewwhite reads like "drobo for enterprises" maxta.com/products
so, basically, local disks are shared across machines with this layer of goo
@RyJones like VSAN, and Nutanix and a whole lotta other players
@ewwhite are they backed by A402Z?
k... no
23:10
well then, those other people suck, so don't use them. maxta is funded by a16z, so they're better
I can't see anything that isn't a press release or very high level description.
"How do I add new disks to an existing MxSP host" and "how do I add new hosts" were questions that I couldn't get answered without hacking about in the depths of VMware,
I'm not talking about a hidden menu here, I'm talking about decompiling JAVA classes, resetting the admin password on the appliance and playing with files in VMware that say things like scsi1:0.fileName = "/vmfs/volumes/52816900-e30c3247-6d93-00248c0c3771/maxtadisks/MAXTA-DISK_1001_0.‌vmdk" scsi1:0.mode = "independent-persistent".
page 1
yeah, so, it is like drobo
I like that you're only charged on what you export to vmware
that's what I like.
Chris Wahl told me to try it.
Thank you for your interest in Maxta and our groundbreaking VM storage platform.

We have received your request and will be be contacting you soon. We appreciate your interest and we look forward to speaking with you.
d'oh
23:26
@ewwhite The video started out with a very clear formulation of a common problem, and then proceeded to answer the "How?" question with a series of buzzwords and a reiteration of the problem... It's like an introduction to MLM or some kind of ponzi scheme
23:40
@MathiasR.Jessen it would be funny if they gave discounts based on your network sales
"this storage manager doubles as an MLM as you build your downline!"
