@MarkHenderson I believe the number in "36D" is inches around the chest below the breasts (basically the bra strap diameter). Totally separate from the "size 10" type stuff.
@freiheit Ahhh. We measure them as [shirt size][boob size] so 12C means size 12 shirt with a C breast
@freiheit yes it is
@MarkHenderson Yeah but you Australians do everything upside down.
In fact, I'm not 100% certain how you've even managed to procreate.
@Wesley Standing on their heads?
@Wesley Both partners are upside down, so it all works out fine.
00:13
aw
@NathanC thank god
not sure I wanted to see whatever you wanted to show
@NathanC aw cute.
@NathanC tasty!
she doesn't seem to like me very much yet heh
00:16
@NathanC Hang in there. Girlfriends are confusing at times, but Stockholm syndrome sets in and things smooth out.
hahaha
@Wesley Ha! Nice.
@Wesley A womans throat is connected to her fallopian tubes, with a special little flap in the esophagus that opens and shuts when semen is detected
@MarkHenderson Tell me more, uncle Mark.
@Wesley Well, when a daddy and a daddy and a daddy and a mummy love eachother very much, or exchange payment for services, or drink too much, the three daddies all take turns in trying to make a baby with the mummy. After the baby is born, you go on a TV show with the three daddies and find out which one actually made you!
The two daddies that didn't make you high five each other and continue the process until they are all paying child support!
00:27
that is awesome.
I should write kids books
@MarkHenderson Why is daddy ballgagged?
"...and other questions your toddler will ask."
Ergh. Sometimes remote support is a drag.
@Wesley More from the author of "Why mummy cries when she's alone" and "How to get what you want by nagging!"
Buy them together in the hard-back collection "I used to be happy"
Includes a special toddler edition of "All men are douchebags"
@MarkHenderson and "Sex as a weapon, volumes 1 through U FAIL."
@Wesley With its companion, "Using sex as a bargaining chip. 1 easy step to getting your man to do what you want!"
00:35
stupid libmysqlclient.so.15 Y YOU RUIN ERYTHING!!?!!
@tylerl Thats not a very good name for a toddler book
Fuck
so turns out I hate VMware
and every ops person before me
@JoelESalas Welcome to the human race.
Please leave your reasonable expectations at the door.
8 screws later, hard drive out of laptop...
@MarkHenderson Yeah, how about "It's going to be you or someone else. You choose."
00:47
So, apparently if a power supply is left unused it has the tendency to fail with scary effects
as in, popping noises and the sweet smell of burning plastic
This was one of those external supplies to power externals and such...
01:00
god damn stupid people
@NathanC This is not a feature of power supplies. Was yours left unused around a cat?
no, in a box
return to seller
"Did you check permissions" "Yes, it has to be done though code... blah blah blah" 2 hours of trying to find it in the code, I took a step back, checked user permissions, and it was a matter of unchecking a box
im pissed
both at her and myself... her for not doing what I told her to begin with, and myself for assuming that she couldn't be THAT stupid/lazy/incompetent, and not double checking
01:23
@MDMarra "CERN has been testing various virtualization and cloud options over the last few years and, according to infrastructure manager Tim Bell, it’s currently got two environments: around 3,000 virtual machines running in a high-availability configuration on Microsoft’s System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM); and three OpenStack deployments, the main one running around 500 or 600 hypervisors."
That's a lot of fucking VMs
@MattBear Yeah, I've had a few bad hires. Especially at the non-profit, as they generally didn't bother removing people that were lazy.
01:46
Oh man this drive's toast...
first it was uninitalized, then it's showing unallocated partitions
02:01
@FalconMomot Coffee!
@Wesley I have.
@FalconMomot Espresso!
@Wesley Don't have any handy.
@FalconMomot Meth!
@Wesley I actually don't know anyone who can get me that.
02:02
And why are you yawning anyway, did you just wake up? =P
cook it yourself!
@JourneymanGeek FalconHeisenberg
Falconberg!
@JoelESalas ya, hyper v configuration maximums are nothing to sneeze at
@MarkHenderson lookout for drones carrying textbooks! arstechnica.com/business/2013/10/…
@Andrew Yeah read that in the paper :p
02:19
ouch...
This drive is...4 months old maybe?
protips for devops right tehre
02:36
For those looking for something to help them sleep tonight...
Lonely already, I see.
crunk, and needing to build a Magento setup for some produce company
But I stopped by Insomnia Cookies to get my fix.
Mmm. They used to have a truck on my walk to the train from my last job
It's hard to say no to cookies after a hard day of work
02:40
And now I know why they call this the "City of Brotherly Love"
(getting hit on during the walk back to my ho-tel)
ಠ_ಠ
So did you two go to Mark's special steak sandwich cart?
We went somewhere that @ewwhite could have some pig!
@MDMarra Yo mummas house!
02:59
D:
@NathanC backup, run the official tool, see if you can RMA. STAT
@JourneymanGeek Yeah, the laptop's being sent back. It's a friend's laptop heh.
Just trying to recover some data, but it's not looking good.
@NathanC: gddrescue tends to work
I did it when my drive had bad sectors. It won't save all of it, but it will save as much of it as possible
yeah...that'll be my last ditch if this other software doesn't work

@ChrisS You poor people :P
I might have shit internet but at least I have job security :P

Nice.

"extra encryption that I don't need"
huh.
I have no idea what he's trying to do. I'm not sure he really knows either.
Well, you know what they say. He who encrypts least encrypts best.
Forget SSH, forget ADHDSSL. This guy wants his tunnel unprotected.
Or, for fans of George H.W. Bush: "Read my commits: no new hashes!"
I'd better quit while I'm behind.
Sheesh. Another one.
He's doing KVM Virtualization on a Pen-Test Security distro.
Which, you know, is sort of like directing traffic with an AK-47. It can be done, but it's likely to raise eyebrows outside of Afghanistan.

Q: How to Design ADS so as only Selected Computer Names can join the domain

> all other computer name should not be allowed to join Domain irrespective of users rights.
ummmm
@MilesErickson About peed myself when I read your comment
@Magellan I LOLed
@tylerl I lol'd so hard I'm pretty sure the neighbors heard me.
05:35
I actually answered the question, too.
I also enjoy how such questions frequently end with "kindly provide the answer plz"
because nobody would answer otherwise
Coming from a Western cultural perspective, one experiences India as a very strange place. Everyone is extraordinarily rude in public, yet there is a certain degree of obsession with politeness.
For example, a service representative might ask @Wesley, "What is your good name?"
@MilesErickson: its easier to understand if you think of them as bizzaro victorian culture
The further East you go, the greater the importance of social ranking in speech. It's a very interesting phenomenon.
Difficult for westerners to understand
It tends to reflect the historical importance of social power in the preceeding civilization. In western societies, rank becomes much less significant much earlier on.
so the honorifics largely disappeared from German, English, etc.
This is truly fascinating, Your Excellency.
2
It really gets interesting if you try to learn a language that requires everyone to be referred to with specific words that must be selected with great care depending on whether he/she is older, younger, parental, avuncular, of a grand age, etc.
05:48
@MilesErickson All the more reason for everyone else to learn English.
Pimsleur really falls down on that stuff. Follow their advice and every woman is your grandma.
06:17
morning gentlemen
Good morning! You can park over there, and yes, it's real.
G'day
06:33
morning
Welcome, folks. Over there, next to the cat, and no, it's not loaded.
Morning
morning
@JennyD you're sure in early today
@FalconMomot nah, it's 8.30 here, that's not early
@JennyD aah. usually when I see you say morning, 2 hours from now, it's a sign I need to think about getting home :)
06:38
@FalconMomot I think usually I faff around a bit with other things before writing anything here. But today I got a good seat on the train so I could do stuff from there on the ride in.
lol
@MilesErickson have you checked if the cat was unloaded?
Have you ever met a cat that wasn't loaded?
^ announcement of new wine for cats, whose name Google translates as... well, a synonym for cat, anyway.
06:55
> Product Features
1. Never in the non-alcoholic wine style drinks non-alcoholic wine style drink alcohol zero full-scale, you get drunk even if I give him the love cat.
wat?
Normally, "giving him the love cat" is a sobering experience. This can help.
I'm really starting to hate Amazon EC2...
17.44% average iowait
on a cloud system
I AM SURPRISE
@Wesley Wait... you're the love cat.
you're in a strange mood today @MilesErickson
07:09
Wait, WHAT???! Poor IO performance on EC2? Clearly this is a recent development.
@Iain That's for sure.
@MilesErickson I wish I'd been properly caffeinated earlier I could have said you're in a strange mood yesterday @MilesErickson
It does make you wonder.. is there going to be a strong market uprise for dedicated services again?
@pauska Not here in Seattle. Double grande hazelnut latte with whip for breakfast, quad extra-large high-IO on-demand instances with S3 on the side for lunch. With stuff like that on tap, who needs food... or servers?
@pauska If it were 17% all day long, I wouldn't care.
07:21
17% averaged iowait is quite the big deal to me, but I guess we have different requirements.. it basically translates that your app(s) is spending 4 hours a day waiting for the disk subsystem to clear it's queues
maybe our users are spoiled.. they scream bloody murder when an app takes 10 seconds longer to launch
@pauska The OS is, anyway. The app does all its disk I/O on separate threads, so it survives this I/O crap pretty well.
And it's only logging anyway. Doesn't matter much if it's delayed.
@MichaelHampton what sort of instance are you running on?
@tylerl This one's a micro
Which is probably the root cause
ah.
So I guess you get what you pay for
I am paying for it!
07:24
Or perhaps arugably quite a lot more than you pay for
It fits perfectly well into a micro... I could probably run it on my phone if it had the bandwidth.
@MichaelHampton You could downgrade to the free tier. Probably not much worse than what you're seeing now. And infinitely better value.
@tylerl The free tier IS a micro instance. Only you start paying for it after a year.
Phones today are actually absurdly powerful. quad-core 1.2GHZ with 2GB of ram? You can run a whole infrastructure on that.
@tylerl They have to be powerful to keep running the new versions of Plants vs. Zombies.
07:28
My wife's old laptop was less powerful than her cell phone. Lower resolution screen, too.
@MichaelHampton You should talk to TomTom

Personally I don't think we're sufficiently trigger happy.This has lead to an archive of google material that now attracts far too many hapless, clueless people who can't bet bothered to read for themselves and hence ask even crappier questions drowning out the (very) occasional good one. If we'd been ruthless at the start perhaps we wouldn't have had this problem. — Iain 2 hours ago
Truth right here
aye
@Chopper3 what did you think of BF4 in the end?
@tombull89 too early to say yet - I had a few lock-ups
Dan
Dan
@tombull89 I wasn't overwhelmed to be honest
The beta is okay, but I doubt I'll get it on release
@Chopper3 same - a couple when loading the map after a game had ended and one, critically, when flying a chopper that just got locked onto :/
08:25
@tombull89 that said I played through 'Beyond: Two Souls' at the weekend and that locked up twice!
I got stuck on a lot of invisible rubble once the building collapsed which I found the most annoying, as well as the input lag.
Dan
Dan
I'm still mostly addicted to GTA
If I'd have known the hotel here has HDMI TV's I'd have brought my XBox along
I've really got into Rush on BF3 servers - PTFO like mad when attacking. I've recently unlocked the MK4A1, full-auto shotgun and it's a bit of a beast.
Got my first MVP/1st place ribbon with it a few games ago.
The game I've been waiting for just got delayed - watch dogs
I want GTA 5 but on the PC so haven't played that yet
@RobM delayed? again? D:
08:31
Yeah they said yesterday that and something else were being delayed until next year
I'd rather buy games that were done right than done fast, of course, so you can't really complain in that sense, but I think both watch dogs and the other title (the crew?) were supposed to be launch titles for the new playstation and xbox
so its a bit of a black eye for ubisoft
grr I am so angry right now
I was out longboarding, and I was crossing a street in a crosswalk at a traffic light, and this jackass security guard decides he wants to hit me.
o0
for longboarding?
I leapt out of the way in time, but he ran over my board, and sped off too quickly for me to get a plate >.<
seriously... when you hit a pedestrian, you stop.
he needs to be slapped with longfish
08:34
what. a. cock. :-(
longfish is long.
I really want to exact some revenge on him but I have no fucking clue who he is. damnit.
Need a lot of chips for that
@FalconMomot: rest assured, he will likely be eaten by a grue
luckily, though my board went flying, it looks like he just managed to kickflip it with his tire, and scrape a bit with his rear bumper
I don't know if I am going to be able to concentrate on much for the rest of the night.

D'oh - spent last night at the hotel worrying about a strange issue I'm seeing here. JUST remembered that I saw it a few years back and have a solution!
lol
@Dan: talked to the duck?
hmm
Just had a student come up to the office to ask for an ip address for a printer so he can print some work off...his phone.
um.
anyone have experience with ovh.com? Their server pricing is absurdly low, but their company is very well established.
@tylerl I know a few people who really, really hate them, but those people are kind of accident-prone and hate almost everyone.
08:50
@tylerl I know someone with a number of servers on their Kimsufi packages - very cheap ovh.co.uk/dedicated_servers/kimsufi_2g.xml but reccomended if you know what you're doing with Linux.
@FalconMomot hm.
If you want a Windows server, it gets expensive, quick.
nonetheless, I do recall them once doing something like powering off a rack for no reason and trying to pass it off as a network problem.
@FalconMomot LOL. A small hosting company that a previous employer used had an employee once trip over a power cord and take down a row of racks.
We were not impressed
@tylerl whatever happened to redundant power supplies?
08:52
Yeah.
Dan
Dan
@JourneymanGeek Yeah - I was typing an e-mail to everyone and then had a flashback!
@tombull89 Tell him he can have 127.0.0.1
back when irc chat was big enough that the major isps all had to be in it, I was doing work with MS on exchange and, oddly enough, irc servers. A major part of chat.msn.com was a server under a developer's desk and one day someone else went into their office and decided to steal the power cable from this machine that was clearly tucked under a desk and not being used for anything serious as there was no monitor, etc. plugged in...
But seriously: Xeon ES-1620, 2GB drives, 64GB RAM, 500 Mbit/s guaranteed uplink, for US$149/mo? I pay an order of magnitude more than that just for bandwidth anywhere.
how can that not be a scam?
I may know someone who offers that
@FalconMomot psst, wanna buy some bandwidth?
08:56
it's probably the case that you're getting a supermicro server or something like that, and also that you're getting it near cost
I believe OVH was having some financial troubles too last I heard?
@FalconMomot Nothing about that in google news.
@tylerl there was a very small amount of noise that they were about to be in recievership, but I don't know if it was true.
There's a bit about them stopping offering new servers for a few days while they change their pricing model to stop encouraging customers to constantly switch servers
but that's it. ...
So why can't I get 100Mbit/s at a colo for less than $500/mo?
good morning!
If these monkeys can do 5 times that it for $150, including a decent server?
Ah, here's a little gem:
OVH is a worldwide, privately owned web hosting service company that provides dedicated servers, mutual hosting, domain names and VOIP telephony services. The company is a société par actions simplifiée under French law and its headquarters are in Roubaix in northern France. The company has eight datacentres housing at least 145,000 machines. The company offers localized services in France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Ireland, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Lithuania, and Finland. It has also expanded its services to the United States of America and Canada. The company has deployed ...
> The account passwords were reset, and the servers were re-started into recovery mode, giving the attackers full access. ... OVH confirmed that 3 customers were victim of a vulnerability in their password recovery unique URL system
whoops!
09:06
I understand they are prone to accidents like that, yes, but...
you really can't beat them on price.
@FalconMomot That's too bad. I was hoping that you could beat them on price, but I just didn't know where to look. :(
@tylerl at least on the German site all of their dedicated servers are "sold out", not sure if I want to go to a hosting company that can't scale out like that ;)
@faker CA and US have a few. France, Germany, and UK are all sold out.

Our parent company is requesting grant proposals from employees. The grant money is to be used for employee field trips and other educational purposes, any suggestions guys?
10:23
@MathiasR.Jessen LISA?
@JennyD Could be really nice, thought about it actually, but given that I have limited exposure to *nix in a professional capacity I'm afraid I wouldn't get the same value for the buck as a seasoned linux admin or system dev
Also, the grants are limited to around DKK 25000 (~ $5000), not sure that's enough to cover all expenses
Maybe I can find some interesting security conferences here in Europe
@MathiasR.Jessen No, that would probably not be enough... You could come visit my company? init.se/Nyhetsarkiv/Teknikevent-27e-nov-2013 - full day about open source stuff, no cost
10:39
@JennyD Is it gonna be in Swedish? That would give my proposal even more merit (learning tech stuff AND swedish) :D
@MathiasR.Jessen there is events.ccc.de/congress/2013/wiki/Main_Page in Hamburg this year
@MathiasR.Jessen English, because there will be some speakers and some guests that don't know Swedish

Q: Business network infrastructure - common patterns?

AcrotygmaI was given the task to build up a new network infrastructure for our company, but I seem to fail at the most trivial things due to lack of knowledge (I am a programmer and never had to do server stuff in that scale, especially not with Windows components.) So, we have a unicorn-powered physical...

Yikes
12:47
It's like 10,000 servers, when all you need is a cloud.
Or a free ride, when you've already paid?
@RobM Not too long ago I heard Nirvana on the oldies station. :(
It's like buying the server of your dreams, and discovering it's running OS2...
3
It figures.
@dan very yikes. I just love these coders who think they can just knock out a major network infrastructure because of that one time they totally installed ubuntu or windows server on their test box without any help.
12:48
Life has a funny, funny way...
@ScottPack you're an old man
They'd rightly lambast one of us if we went to S.O. and said "Hai, I totally wrote a shellscript once as a sysadmin, now tell me how I can code a enterprise CRM by myself for a 10,000 employee business".

Getting yelled at by one of the DBAs for company policy makes me glad Friday is my last day.

@ScottPack complaining at me
Whatever, 2 more days
12:58
you should tell them that you don't care because you're gone in two days... I'm sure it will calm them down. And if it doesn't who cares? You're gone in two days.
@RobM Depends if the person complaining has any input at all into what kind of reference Cole will get
