@JourneymanGeek Well, I've not been a part of that community since I don't do kernel development. I just thought that email was very well written and a good example of how it's entirely possible to be very clear about what you think is wrong without having to be abusive.
I also think that a community that has "has to be able to take abuse from persons in power" as a standard is likely to lose out on a lot of talented people.

I am getting problem in HP Proliant ML350 G5. Some few days back one of the SAS HDD failed. It was 146GB SAS 15krpm HDD. We got new one which is 146GB SAS 10k rpm HDD. Its on RAID 1(1+0) configuration.
We replaced the SAS HDD but its not rebuilding. We get message when rebooting server to do AU...
@ewwhite Some guy tried to, essentially, call me stupid for referring to a HP mirror as RAID10 the other day. It felt good showing him the console and telling to, again essentially, fuck off.
You may have a spare (replacement) drive whose size in sectors is slightly less than the original drive.
What operating system are you using? We can look at the hpacucli output to determine this for sure.

@ewwhite Well, serious question - but whose fault is it? I mean, if Default Gateways are always .1 in your org, or the docs you were working to say it was .1 then I don't think you're that accountable. Either way, the root cause is director being shit there IMHO.

@ewwhite the ones with a single gateway IP should still have the IP's used for HSRP/VRRP reserved
what happens if a customer suddenly needs HSRP? if the IP's arent reserved from the beginning you have to pick stuff all around the subnet, which makes it even more impossible to prevent fuckups in the future
This looks like a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, and if it's saturating the inbound network connection to your edge (either a router, or a server), then no amount of firewalling inside your network will fix this, as the link to you is already saturated.

@Dan Unfortunately I think the question is more complicated than that. We know from a societal viewpoint that we need to restrict others' freedoms (eg killing anyone you fancy should have consequences). But where exactly do we draw the line. I would agree that dictating who you can marry, or form a relationship with seems overstepping - but obviously there are others who disagree.

@Travis I used to say the same thing, but once the progress starts it's actually kinda fun. And while I'm not athlete, knowing that I could outrun anyone who doesn't actively train is a nice feeling. It's also fun to drive 10 miles in a car and think "Heh, I could run that"
Plus I was properly unfit before. My first running route was 1.4 miles and took me well over 20 minutes. I could easily do over 2 in that time, and I can do 10 miles at a 2 - 3 minutes per mile faster than that now. It just takes time and effort and I don't put nearly enough of those in, either.
I just never got taught how to properly run either so it was always an effort. I ran a 2 mile test one time and it just felt "right" and I was able to get a really good 2 mile time
What I'm amazed at today is that my legs aren't sore. Proves that training helps, really - think it's the first time I've been okay after a >7 mile run
