I like that line.

@ewwhite You up on vDS?

@Travis yes

@ewwhite Just saw one on SF

Q: VMware Virtual Distributed Switch & Management Networks

AdamFI am running a VMware lab environment with two ESXi hosts and a few VMs on each host. I want to convert my regular vSwitches on each host to a vDS, however each time I do so I lose the management network. My setup looks something like this ESXi01 (NiC 1, NiC 2 --VMNetwork; NiC 3, NiC 4, iSCSI) -...

@Travis I don't have the energy to answer.

4:04 PM
lol ok

lol, the most read recent online story on one of the largest national newspaper's here in Denmark is about how Kim Kardashian publicly humiliated our fragile national feelings on Twitter

Damn you and your feelings

I'm not vulnerable anymore, Kim Kardashian has already sucked the life out of all Danes
Let's go Armenia!!! RT @phubbu05: @KimKardashian did u watch Armenia beat Denmark 4 nothing in a soccer game? World cup dream is still alive

@RyanRies - I'm reading over your DNS question... so it if you change your forwarder on ns1.lumberjack.com from the VIP to one of the contoso IPs it works?

@TheCleaner Correct

4:12 PM
Maybe the conditional forwarder is returning the query info to the contoso DNS server but doesn't know that the request originally came through the VIP? Maybe wireshark or similar would be needed to see where the requests/replies are routing?

@TheCleaner so where do I define this route?

Q: Motorola Human Authentication Pill/Vitamin Security?

D3C4FFThis appears to be hot news today, Motorola announced a form of pill that a user can swallow which is activated and powered by stomach acids and transmits a signal back which can be used to authenticate a system via "an 18-bit signal". Is this some form of RFID? If it is, how is this any more se...

@RyanRies Also, if the reason that it fails with Conditional Forwarders behind LB is that the response packet is not routed back properly, it makes sense that it works with stub zones

How has this been open for 12 minutes without being stamped-on? serverfault.com/q/515312/1435

@Chopper3 You need to be a mod again

@Jacob no, nobody wants, or deserves, that
well done lads

@Chopper3 Relentless crushing of noobs who don't read or understand the FAQ? Can't say I'd mind. Hell, you probably would've closed one of my few questions and I still wouldn't mind.

@Jacob Wait, it's not April 1st!?

Lunch Time. See everyone in an hour or so.

4:33 PM
@Tanner I would have made a good Nazi - actually my great grandfather died in a Nazi war camp - he fell out of his gun tower
3

@KevinSoviero Nope! seems fishy I know
@Chopper3 My grandfather did all kinds of bad ass stuff for the CIA, and most of it is still classified today.

@Chopper3 I think we could use a Nazi right now. During election I voted for whoever I thought was the "meanest".

@Chopper3 Dammit. I'm out of stars for today.

Seriously.....

Q: Throttle a file share in Windows Server (2008 R2)

CodeGrueWe are in the process of moving our central storage to SharePoint and people are complaining about slowness because our former file share is so blazingly fast. Does anyone know a way for me to slow down or throttle access speed to a windows server file share to gradually make the perceived differ...

@Travis What a cockbag.
Only a dev would think to slow down a server to make the new one seem faster.

4:43 PM
lol

@ewwhite the route is probably already defined on the ASA, if internal users within the ASA can get to that public IP. the split tunnel network object would define if it is going to route it over the tunnel or not for that destination IP. (probably didn't answer your question...can you elaborate?)

@Travis lol'd for realz, that's the shittiest performance optimization plan I've seen for a long time

Can it even be done?

4:56 PM
Good thing about my dentist: Two shots of novocaine and you can't feel your face - he could use a DeWalt Power Drill on your tooth and you wouldn't know the difference.

Bad thing about my dentist: He runs out of the short-duration novocaine a lot. He finished the filling at 9:15 and I still can't feel my face. It's 1PM and I haven't had any coffee yet...

@voretaq7 Brush your teeth!

@JoelESalas I do.

Then why'd you need a filling?

@JoelESalas Sometimes a boy just likes to be filled.
5
@voretaq7 Lucky you. There were several times where I still wasn't numb after enough shots that my dentist wasn't willing to give me anymore. :/

@JoelESalas cracked enamel from about 10 years ago, the dentin under it was showing a soft spot so I had him just do the filling so I don't have to worry about it anymore.
@ScottPack I'm literally just getting feeling back on that side of my face

5:00 PM
@voretaq7 If I had lots of money, I'd just replace all my teeth. fuck it

@JoelESalas I like my teeth. They're all original, with only minor work

@voretaq7 I would much rather be numb for too long than have yet another filling without anything.

@ScottPack I usually don't have them numb me if I can avoid it, but the tooth he was working on had a very high nerve
also I'm still mystified by the new dental X-Ray machines

hah. you know they're going to get so sick of those emails...

There was something going around Facebook of a "keyword" laden e-mail that would be sure to trip any NSA sensors around

@Travis Paste it here! What could go wrong?

@JoelESalas Honestly? Probably nothing. Thanks to @voretaq7 I'm sure this place is already flagged.

Imagine how much data they process in an hour? nevermind a day, or week, or month.

oh god
i changed the Theme of my school's info website and now its terribly ugly
and theres no way to get back to the default one that i can see

5:29 PM
@David And now you've learned the importance of backups?

@WesleyDavid i.e. Net Direct?

@voretaq7 I'm amazed that they can look at a 2d projection of a 3d event and make such a good analysis.

@Tanner what, no? i dont control this system

@David Have you tried turning it off and on again?

its just like where you go to sign up for classes, check statuses, etc
and now its ugly

5:31 PM
@ScottPack well they have at least 2 views of it, but yeah.
@David School should be ugly

I have to sign up for school, blah

@voretaq7 it used to be pretty
until i wanted to see what the "Change theme" button did

What do the "hollow" stars on the star wall mean?

@David I read that as "I used to be pretty" and was like "well I know that feeling."

lol

5:32 PM
@KevinSoviero pinned.

@KevinSoviero pinned by mod like a quadriplegic at a wrestling match

@Cole oh, thanks

@voretaq7 Watching my father in law work is weird. Here's a 2mmx2mm bad quality black and white cross section. "Oh sure, see that there and that there and this. No problem."

is my only option now
its terrible

TomTom. Elegant as ever.
Vote to close, offtopic here - not professional capacity, that is a superuser.com question. And STOP LYING. See, you say you bought the PC in 2005. That is nice. You also tell us the PC has an Intel E7500. Not at ark.intel.com/products/36503 you can read: Launch Date - Q1'09. I guess 8 PM to 6 AM is when the hamster sleeps...

oh, fine.

@David EVERY THING IS TERRIBLE

@ScottPack I can read x-rays pretty well because of my misspent youth

5:35 PM
@Cole IT IS

So is this piece of carrot stuck in my retainer. TERRIBLE

YES, TERRIBLE
but is that a question?

How do you guys paste comments into chat?

@Cole So that's what they're calling it these days.

@Travis where the date/time is next to the user who commented, copy that link > paste in here.

5:41 PM

@ScottPack lulz.

According to the firewall we're running 11 Mbps through our internet connection...sound about right for commercial DSL?

I am sorry if my question hurt you that much.. but I am in serious problem. Thanks anyways for investing your time on searching processor version. I appreciate your assistance. Feel free to close it :) — Zerotoinfinite 7 mins ago
I lol'ed

@Cole or a company that created it

@Chopper3 truth.

5:48 PM
@Travis Depends on your package. It's certainly in the neighborhood for DSL.

@Cole I think this guy's going to miss the humour in my comment; serverfault.com/q/515338/1435

@Cole wing dings are much more professional, though the best is kidscript

@Chopper3 I find doing a job like that by hand a perfect first task for a new hire.

@ScottPack exactly

and howdy all

5:50 PM
hey

anyone run(ning) the iOS 7 beta?

@David @Chopper3 is

I ran it monday night and tuesday morning, then reverted to 6.1.4

@David yup, not for long though, fucking LOVE it though

@David How how how

5:53 PM
@Chopper3 haha seriously.

@JoelESalas pay $5 for a UDID slot

@David wat

Also we use a script to change the root password on our Unix/Linux servers.

@JoelESalas instantudid.com

You must have an active iOS Developer Standard or Enterprise Program membership to access the development resources for iOS 7 SDK beta.
fuck that shit

5:54 PM
@Chopper3 Now that I think of it...that was the first task given to the new hire in the Unix/Linux team.

@ScottPack how new is he? :P COULD IT BE HIM!?

@Chopper3 it was nice, but my navigation app didn't work and i'm driving 3 hours on thursday

dun dun dun

also, the calendar pissed me off

@Cole I think we brought him on a year ago.
@Cole We also just brought on a couple of new people. I'll need to check to see if we did that for those guys too.

5:55 PM
@MikeyB Was just curious - sounded like you are in a huge company to get such lucrative contracts.

@ScottPack Interesting. You'll know who's a bullshit artist then, eh??
I'm about ready to apply at @MikeyB's company and move to Canada.

@Cole Yeah me too.

@David google maps is better anyway
@David it's a bit TOO white isn't it

That guy looks like he's asked a lot of questions.

@Chopper3 not better than Navigon
@Chopper3 i was more angry they got rid of the dots under each day in the month-view... cant tell if you have events without individually clicking each day (and then scrolling up and down)

5:58 PM
Isn't Navigon a paid app?

hopefully they'll change that though
@Cole yes

@David They did? Shit that's lame, I like the dots

@David oh I see, hadn't noticed that - that means you must have days without thing scheduled???

@Cole I'd consider that a bug/regression, it should be reported as such.

@Cole the only "dot" is a big fat red one on the current day

5:59 PM
@David lame.

@Cole although, lots of stuff seemed unfinished, so maybe they just didnt add that part yet

@Chopper3 Apple Maps has gotten to an acceptable level of suck for driving directions in my area

@mdpc Thanks but I am not feeling to write my question anywhere in SO. I am bit disappointed with the kind of response I got from the so well respected developers community ! Thanks again though for your input — Zerotoinfinite 2 mins ago

it still doesn't do transit

hahaha developers community...

6:00 PM
Ugh brb Connections shit.

also, the parallax shit is cheesy
essentially a gimmick

@David can it be turned off?

@voretaq7 not sure

OF COURSE IT'S A GIMMICK! All that animated fuckery is a gmmick!

its cool for about 30 seconds
then you're like "oh well, who cares"

6:08 PM
it's not cool at all, and I'm like "Oh well, there goes my battery life"

i doubt battery life will be effected much once it hits GM
they're very careful with battery

@David if you're keeping the gyro chip powered up all the time to slide/re-render the background image when I tilt my phone that's gonna chew up battery

@voretaq7 yeah, but how much? 1% over the day?

Then again if Apple were really concerned about battery life they'd ship a phone with a transreflective screen.
@David my phone can't make it through a day of real use as it is...

dunno what you do, but my phone only gets down to 50-60% through the day
maybe 40% if i'm using it a lot

6:13 PM
If I don't use my phone it's at 98% when I go to bed. Normal is ~70-80%. I can get about 1 hour out of YouTube over cellular before it's dead though.
Just did 5 hours of training on Financial Reporting software. I'm dain bread.

@ChrisS so I somehow offended the kernel on my personal box
like "I am NOT going to boot anymore - you're going to have to use a rescue disk and recompile GENERIC" offend.

Oh - I haven't done that in a long time...

I did upgrade to a beta firmware last year that borked the boot process when certain devices were connected to the HBA... Long story, I was dumb-ish.

@ChrisS this is the first time in as-far-back-as-I-can-remember

6:21 PM
Also forgot to upgrade the bootloader after upgrading the filesystem. Next time the power went out I remembered why I always reboot after making major changes to a server.

Granted I recycled an 8.x kernel config file that was recycled from a 7.x kernel config file that was.... well yeah you get the picture

I need to upgrade my home server again... so much that should be done.

@ChrisS yeah I'm moving to 9.1 because $job is moving to 9.1, and - well - I should be at least as up to date as we are

@voretaq7 There's got to be a better way of doing that. I've gotten in the habit of keeping the original GENERIC for each version, then when I want to upgrade the kernel I diff my custom kernel against the GENERIC, and manually patch the new GENERIC into a new custom kernel. Tedious.
The 9.x series is somewhat different from the 8.x kernconf.

@Cole So we're under contract. Assuming inspections and financing don't assplode I'll be living in Dublin in a couple of months. If you're still with that girl then you can buy be a beer when you go visit her parents.

6:26 PM
@ScottPack Oh her mom lives in MA, she does't know who her dad is

Never mind then. You'll have to come up with a different reason to buy me a drink.

Her mom's crazy, seriously. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN!

It's cool, though. I don't know who my parents are either.

Her mom knows who it is, just won't tell her.

@ChrisS it's a little different, but config didn't throw any errors, I have to really scrub through and see what changed

6:28 PM
I just want to say, Hey! I usually don't like to chat, but I'm really pumped about discovering Code Review, so I couldn't resist dropping in just to say, Hey!

it's easy enough for me to just trim GENERIC again though

@PédeLeão chat all day err'day

@PédeLeão Code Review has a chat room too (over here) but I don't think anyone uses it yet :)

@PédeLeão What's Code Review

@voretaq7 Yeah, I've had more than a few where config didn't throw errors, but they've also deprecated running config and all that yourself. You're only supposed to use the make kernel KERNCONF=..... now (they actually suggest buildkernel, installkernel; but that's too much typing)

6:29 PM
@JoelESalas It's a process by which one reviews code.

Damnit. Just got busted at work. Somebody did something stupid with a Windows machine a few days ago, to where it could no longer log in to the domain. No local accounts worked either. So they asked me for help and in breaking into the machine, I created a local admin account named "Backdoor Betty". I tripped an IDS system however, and today the security team is running around in a tizzy and emailing back and forth about the mysterious "BackdoorBetty" account. >.<

@ScottPack Do tell me more, mighty space-man from the future!

@ChrisS my automatic scripts do buildkernel/installkernel (because they stop if the build fails)

@JoelESalas The humans are dead.

@RyanRies lol 0wned

6:30 PM
@ScottPack You blew it up? Damn you all to hell!

I run config manually to lint the configuration files - that's about it these days. make kernel is SO MUCH NICER

@JoelESalas We used poisonous gases and we poisoned their asses.

Wow, I thought this was the Code Review chat room. I guess not. @JoelESalas - It's a site like StackExchange where people review your code. I think it's an awesome idea, because if you tried to post your code on Stack Exchange, you probably get a lot of downvotes.

My GEODE kernel has a lot of customization... It took me a good hour to get it upgraded from 8.x to 9.x - and working right.

@PédeLeão I agree, that's a great idea. I doubt people will be willing to review my Puppet code though

6:32 PM
@PédeLeão You post your code review here and we'll say nasty things about your mother.

@PédeLeão I assume you're talking about Code Review?

Cross-building from an amd64 machine targeting i386 ain't fun either.

@ScottPack - Yes.

@PédeLeão It is a StackExchange site.

Just got done with another phone screen. Went ok, not great but ok. We'll see if the next level of management likes me.

6:34 PM
@ScottPack - Right. I meant that it's like StackOverflow.

@PédeLeão I'm glad I could Review your contributions. :)

@PédeLeão I'm really not sure how the SE Question/Answer model will work for code reviews
but it might be interesting

@ScottPack - I don't know exactly what you mean. Are you talking about posts that I mad on StackOverflow?

@PédeLeão I was making humor based on the fact that I peer reviewed your description of CodeReview.SE in a similar fashion to how CodeReview happens.

@voretaq7 - You seem to be suggesting that it's still experimental. I think you make a good point, because it seems to me that it could be overloaded with junk code.
@ScottPack - Sorry for missing your joke. I lack social skills, and for that reason, I avoid chats.

6:40 PM
@voretaq7 They don't have a FAQ yet. Drat.
@PédeLeão Welcome to IT.

hehehe "NFC Stands For Nobody F****** Cares And Apple Gets That"

@ScottPack - Thanks!

Oh, right. I forgot that it takes 30 clicks to get to the what's on topic. Fucking Help Center.

@David Hahahahah

@ScottPack wow, read that wrong the first time.

6:42 PM
@Cole Your reading would probably be just as appropriate.

@ScottPack that too.

Time to go. Take care everyone!

Fun job: get this SATO printer to work on raspbian

The Dell tech needs to get here, and fix my laptop right meow.

7:00 PM
Got my analog fax line fixed! Turns out the line from the wall plate to the fax was apparently bad....and the 2nd one I used to test it was bad also....nothing like getting yelled at for a fax being down for 3 weeks to turn into a layer 1 issue
2

@ScottPack they do, it's just the stock one
their on topic page is filled out though: codereview.stackexchange.com/help/on-topic
pg_toast.pg_toast_16461293 <-- Things you never want to see your database server say...

@Travis well that's some shit luck

@Cole I just had our telco contractor come out too. I told him everything I did (including testing the cable from wall to fax) and he was like...why am I here then? You did everything... Just for kicks we re-did every step. and the 3rd one we did was replaced the phone cord with another new one and bam..worked just fine
@Cole So that was a waste of $120

@voretaq7 What's that?

7:13 PM
@Travis Doh.

Makes ya feel stupid as hell

@voretaq7 If you dig down deep enough there are some on-topic fiddly bits in there.

13 mins ago, by voretaq7
their on topic page is filled out though: http://codereview.stackexchange.com/help/on-topic
those fiddly bits? :)

Exactly
What, you expect me to read things that aren't in my notification box? Putz.

@ScottPack we have notification boxes?

7:20 PM
Affirmative.

@ScottPack that's terrible
2

This beer isn't terrible.

@ScottPack You beer at work?!?

@jscott If. Only.
I'm home today. This do be Thesis Day

7:23 PM
@ScottPack what beer is it?
@jscott I used to be able to beer at work.

@Cole !!!

It was encouraged, especially on Friday's for Beer Bashes. They bought awesome beer too.

@ScottPack "It is no coincidence that theses rhymes with feces" -- Actual quote from a thesis defense panel chair.

@ScottPack I'll have to try it, I like Irish Ales.
Wonder if I can even get it here.

7:25 PM
Should be able to, Great Lakes is pretty big for a microbrewery.
I generally find the GL beers too bitter, but this one is nice.

@ScottPack hm, I may check out the liquor store near my house. Appropriately named Liquor World. They have a whole wall of craft/microbrews and even a huge walk in cooler with some in there as well.

@Cole Where and how?

I love beer, so much.
@Tanner NetApp

annnnnd checking their careers page

All their releases of ONTAP (get it, on tap as in beer on tap) are named after breweries.
@Tanner you don't want to work there, just laid off 900 people.

7:29 PM
but... beer.

@Tanner you'll need more than just beer to work there now.

haha

The company isn't the same as it was in 2011, and even then people were complaining about it changing too much.

7:31 PM
The Dell tech's name was Nicholas. Weirded me out for a second, because that's my name!

So that should be fun.

@ShaneMadden brb fapping.

@voretaq7 yes.

7:35 PM
@ShaneMadden Sweet! Those are nice nice cards.
@ShaneMadden Do note that's RHL 7.3. Not RHEL 7.3.

somehow I expect I'll be seeing "Filesystem Full: WTF are you doing you lunatic?!" in the near future...

Some people are just dicks.

Should've piped it into gzip

@MikeyB Ah yeah. Noises about RHEL 7 today threw me off.
@MikeyB It's going in my home lab, heh.

@ShaneMadden Hoping FusionIO doesn't ask for chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/127?m=8691576#8691576 back.

7:38 PM
@WesleyDavid I misled you the other day. MS Partner 'status' is free. Just need to fill out a bunch of paperwork. Also, you can add-on "Cloud Essentials" free (moar paperwork, online training, and online test to make sure you were paying attention) and get 25 licenses of Office 365, Intune, and Dynamics CRM Online, and some Azure benefits (something like 750 hours of VM time free each month).

@voretaq7 I <3 mkfifo

@MikeyB Ooh nice. What model is that?

@ShaneMadden ioScale 3.2TB

@MikeyB Damn.

@ShaneMadden Yeah, I was lookat at the 7.4 alpha releases in my portal today
@ChrisS Huh, interesting. I'm burned out from partner programs. Lots of upkeep, very little ROI for me at this stage.

7:40 PM

@WesleyDavid Sure, just want to make sure you didn't think I was purposely misleading you or anything.

I think we only keep these around for shits & giggles.

@Adrian ...that won't really help me :P

@ChrisS That's a pretty sweet deal.

@MikeyB NIB

7:42 PM
I need the text dump to scan for encoding errors

@ScottPack Shrinkwrapped, yeah.

^I've got one of those laying around somewhere

@ChrisS oh my, deluxe!

@MikeyB I figure NIB is close enough. I do work for the government after all.

7:43 PM
@DennisKaarsemaker Came with a bunch of packages on CD

@voretaq7 might keep you from filling up the disk and you can decompress on the fly with gzip -c

Listen guys I have you beat.

@Cole My first SF question: serverfault.com/questions/423605/…

I miss my OS/2 2 :(
