Maybe the conditional forwarder is returning the query info to the contoso DNS server but doesn't know that the request originally came through the VIP? Maybe wireshark or similar would be needed to see where the requests/replies are routing?

@ewwhite the route is probably already defined on the ASA, if internal users within the ASA can get to that public IP. the split tunnel network object would define if it is going to route it over the tunnel or not for that destination IP. (probably didn't answer your question...can you elaborate?)

Good thing about my dentist: Two shots of novocaine and you can't feel your face - he could use a DeWalt Power Drill on your tooth and you wouldn't know the difference.

Bad thing about my dentist: He runs out of the short-duration novocaine a lot. He finished the filling at 9:15 and I still can't feel my face. It's 1PM and I haven't had any coffee yet...

@voretaq7 Lucky you. There were several times where I still wasn't numb after enough shots that my dentist wasn't willing to give me anymore. :/

@JoelESalas cracked enamel from about 10 years ago, the dentin under it was showing a soft spot so I had him just do the filling so I don't have to worry about it anymore.
