Q: CentOS Ip Forwarding and Rooting

WillThis is my Setup Below Server2 Server1 Client When the client sends a https request to server1 i want server 1 to forward the https connection to server 2 then on return i want server 2 to pass connection to server 1 then back to the client . I also need server2 to see the ip off server1 and ...

Is it 4:30 yet?

"apreshiated"

@TomO'Connor what the fuck did I just read.

i'm cold

1:01 PM
I'm NARQing it.
It's not worth my time to fix

He doesn't "reguire" to log anything.

He requires a 'sort off rooter'

The maybe with two e's makes me angry. COLE SMASH.

@RobM he requires a kick in the pants.

i require a holiday
you sure smash a lot of things Cole

1:03 PM
@RobM I'm very angry lately.

that'll do it

Should not have wore two compression shirts today. Feel like my ribs are going to collapse.

guys, you really need to stop bullying people so much :P
he's asking for a https proxy, nothing more fancy than that

Feeling like your ribs are gonna collapse would probably make anyone feel angry

Lots of CentOS related questions lately.
@RobM sure does.

1:05 PM
Lets add one more: How do I set up an alias in CentOS so that ALT-F2 does nohup rm -rf /& ?
And Alt-F1 does a root login :)

how can i replace /dev/tty0 with a copy of /dev/null

@RobM Huh?

1:24 PM
Hmm, had a very weird discovery this morning...
Apparently one of the guys who hired me (gone now) used to work for my dad back in 2000, I had no clue until I read his LinkedIn profile
small world I guess

@BrentPabst definitely a small world.

@Cole Ha, I'm trying to find out from my dad now if he remembers the guy

Oh I'm so glad it's Thursday.

but its not Friday!

Who am I kidding? I have absolutely nothing to look forward to Friday night, Saturday or Sunday - other than not being at work.

1:27 PM
I have a date on saturday.
at 10AM
for breakfast.

@TomO'Connor that's different
but finding someone who likes waffles is a must!

IKR?

@TomO'Connor yeah...I don't have a date. :(
Waffles > *

@Cole I'd take you to breakfast, but you're like.. 5k miles away.

1:29 PM
@TomO'Connor Yeah that might be an expensive trip for breakfast.

I miss Eggo waffles.

no... (Waffles + Hot Maple Syrup) >> *

You just don't get them over here.

@TomO'Connor I miss my Irish and Polish/German breakfasts though!

@BrentPabst Irish breakfasts are insanely massive.

1:30 PM
@TomO'Connor Yes, Yes they are.
Oh funny, I'm insanely massive too!

Thats a lot of pudding

It's a lot of anything.. Bear in mind it'll go cold quickly, and the eggs will turn to rubber.

Dunno, I prefer the white pudding over the black stuff... just don't think about it and what's in it

@BrentPabst I don't like either much.
Actually
Blackpudding makes me gag.
that's a lie.

1:33 PM
@TomO'Connor true, I'll take an egg in the basket... more than enough

@TomO'Connor you are so disgusting when it comes to breakfast
sorry, not you as a person, but the country

@pauska Ireland and the UK have some weird stuff... but Germany and Poland are not much better
of course you must not have ever had a Southern US breakfast either ;)

Huevos rancheros, that is all.

:"Ham and eggs" redirects here. For the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon, see Ham and Eggs. Breakfast (literally meaning to break the fasting period of the prior night) is the first meal taken after rising from a night's sleep, most often eaten in the early morning before undertaking the day's work. Among English speakers, "breakfast" can be used to refer to this meal, or, less commonly, to refer to a meal composed of traditional breakfast foods (such as eggs, oatmeal and sausage) served at any time of day. Breakfast foods vary widely from place to place, but often include a carbohydrate...
quite a lot of countries have weird ones.
Steak and eggs seems weird to me.

Ladies and gents.... I have hog roast. I am very happy.

1:37 PM
@ITHedgeHog HedgeHog roast?

No, Pig Hog

Two Eggs cooked to order with Grits, Sawmill Gravy and Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits along with real Butter and the best Preserves, Jam n' Apple Butter available. Served with your choice of Fried Apples or Hashbrown Casserole and Chicken Fried Chicken or Country Fried Steak.
^^^ I can kill that

Dan
I love an English breakfast but it's rare I have one
Poached Eggs on Toast, now that that's a brakfast

@Dan Amen

Dan
1:40 PM
@BrentPabst Healthy, filling, tasty and warm!

eh, dunno about healthy... mine is usually covered in butter ;)

@Dan I'd rather strangled eggs on toast.
with Worcester sauce.

Dan
@TomO'Connor Strangled eggs?

Does anyone here have access to the Red Hat portal?

more like drowned eggs

1:41 PM
I need to see the resolution of a bug.

@ewwhite I can drive to their office... be there in about 10 minutes?

@Dan Scrambled eggs.
;)

@BrentPabst not good enough :)

Dan
@TomO'Connor Oooh, haha, sorry
Scrambled eggs are nice with salmon

@ewwhite wow, the world is ending.... having access to the internet is better than going out in the real world

1:42 PM
@Dan Nothing is nice with salmon.

Dan
@TomO'Connor :o. We're over.

@Dan Salmon is good on it's own.

@Dan That's lox dammit!

Dan
@TomO'Connor Oh okay, that's cool

You parsed that entirely contrarily to how I expected.
I'm weird. :3

1:43 PM
@TomO'Connor Cream Cheese goes with salmon

Dan
@TomO'Connor Hehe, sorr

@ITHedgeHog Cream cheese and salmon go with bagels

@ITHedgeHog Eew. Cream Cheese.
reminds me of a nurses textbook I found in an old bookshop.

@TomO'Connor I don't think we want to hear that story

Nobody here with Red Hat credentials?

1:46 PM
@BrentPabst Well, I caught the ferry to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for m'shoe. So I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt. Which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. Gimme five bees for a quarter, you'd say. Now where was I... oh yeah.

'morning
@ewwhite I heard that @TomO'Connor <3s EL
By the way. Are we still on for this weekend @ewwhite?

@ewwhite my only credential is that they are based in Raleigh, sorry, can't help with their site though

@MDMarra I was battling a double-disk failure on a RAID 1+0 array there most of this week so far... I think things have settled. I'll build a file server today.

@MDMarra EL is fine, as it's supported
it's CentOS that gets my goat.

@ewwhite No rush, just hadn't heard so I wanted to check

1:50 PM
@MDMarra Still seems off..
cciss 0000:04:00.0: cciss: c ffff810037e00000 has CHECK CONDITION sense key = 0x3
every hour

I have a good feeling about today... already playing Bach at 9am

I started getting up at 6am to go to the gym before work, but now I'm famished by the time I get here
I used to just eat fruit in the morning, but now I have a bacon and egg sandwich every day plus fruit
Sort of cancels out everything I just did heh

@MDMarra I think you need @TomO'Connor's english breakfast

A watched Pull Request is never merged.

Dan
God, the ESXi Data Store downloader progress window thing has so little bearing in reality it's not even funny

1:53 PM
@BrentPabst What's that? Some blow and an Earl Grey?
2

@MDMarra . . . .

Dan
@MDMarra Early Grey is not for breakfast you heathen!

How the hell should I know that? I'm a red blooded american that drinks 4 cups of coffee a day

@TomO'Connor My story begins in nineteen-dickety-two. We had to say "dickety" because the Kaiser had stolen our word "twenty". I chased that rascal to get it back, but gave up after dickety-six miles. What are you cackling at, fatty? Too much pie, that's your problem!

Now, I'd like to digress from my prepared remarks to discuss how I invented the terlet...
2

@MDMarra I'm more of an Apple and Spice guy... that sounds wrong though

1:58 PM
Is it possible to delegate management of IIS on Windows 7 to a limited user?

ouch

Everything I read says "no" but that doesn't seem right

Dan
@BrentPabst And yet nowhere near as bad them being your items!

@Dan very true
@Dan Although around here it wouldn't surprise me, the question becomes did I get fired or am I moving to a different office?
ha ha ha, did you all notice the animation for users who leave chat?

@BrentPabst I though I had imagined that, until I caught it last night as several people left at the same time.

2:06 PM
@jscott Pretty funny, gotta love SE sometimes

@Dan FastSCP!!!

my boss and I discussed this the other day, it seems that native english speaking devs often have more of a sense of humor when it comes to coding than their asian/middle eastern equivalents.
I didn't realize Java Server Pages ran directly on a database now ;)

Now where were we? Oh yeah: the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

@RobM I'm not sure exactly what this is, but I like it

I am a developer with some experience in devops, but mounting drives is something I have not faced before, so explicit directions would be greatly appreciated.
4

@ewwhite I always had my suspicions about your skills =P

:(

I'm a brain surgeon, but i've never had to take any blood.. explicit directions would be greatly appreciated.

2:43 PM
@ewwhite Where do you keep getting these from?

Q: Move /var directories to to /mnt on an EC2 instance

Geoff LanotteI am trying to work on a standard configuration for a set of EC2 instances running ubuntu 12.04. These servers are going to be primarily web servers for a Ruby on Rails application. Will fedex really not take my package if I use gorilla tape?

I tagged it with devops

@MDMarra grrr, how do you do that!!

2:46 PM
@ewwhite [tag:whatever]

@Goatmale Sounds like an odd rule.

@Goatmale I had a buddy that was moving across the country and fed-exed himself a bunch of weed
If they'll take that, they'll probably take gorilla tape

Friends of a friend uses "Silk Road" to buy their drugs.

@MDMarra That's a good way to get someone's dog shot: cnn.com/2008/CRIME/08/07/mayor.warrant

2:50 PM
huh
how about that

how the fuck can you consider yourself any kind of unix admin / developer / user without knowing how to mount devices

Well, the upside to my story is that the only thing that got hurt was a can of pringles after it got delivered

@RobM I helped one of our devs, just yesterday, resolve a "Windows Update issue" which broke his dual monitor setup. Turns out he had not secured the DVI cable on the primary monitor, causing it to have no signal. Note he is also a gamer, so he should have some hardware experience.

Are there a lot of sysadmin gamers around here?
I find that it's mostly helpdesk staff and devs that are gamers

hahaha dvi cable
seriously

2:55 PM
I think I am slowly growing out of them.

Depends on what you call a gamer.

@MDMarra I am

In my early 20s, I played TF2 non stop (in fact, I made about 8 grand selling hats when trading came out), but over the last few years, I haven't touched a PC game

I play in muds, a webgame (s13.en.ikariam.com) and play mostly old DOS games.

And rarely a PS3 game. I mostly play 2d RPGs on my ipad

2:56 PM
I was super addicted to PlanetSide (1, not 2) and WoW

My friend's like "you gotta get Borderlands 2"and now it just seems like work.

now it's just whenever I have free time and nothing else to do

@MDMarra I don't really have the time. I did just re-play Portal 2 though.

A PS3 can play games? I thought that was an cheap DVD or BR player. :)

would be fun to get together on mumble (yes, mumble - not ventrilo/teamspeak) and play something
like PlanetSide2 which is F2P
I know chopper plays BF3 alot

2:57 PM
When I'm going on long trips where I'm not driving, I'll take a DS and play one of the old Final Fantasy ports or something, but I can't even remember the last game I finished
I have like 60 games in my steam library and I think I've only finished like 1
I found an exploit in TF2 right when dueling came out and it basically let you get infinite metal/hats/duels. So, I had a ton of refined metal (literally like 400 refined or more) and traded it all for keys. Then I traded the keys for steam games to people that were willing to gift them
So I have this huge library of games that I've never played and now I don't even own a PC any more, so most of it isn't even playable

What was the exploit?

You know TF2?

Yep.

ok
So, you know when you duel with someone
Every 10 duel "wins" you get a random item and 5 more duels
and every 100 wins or whatever, you go up a duel "level" which doesn't really do anything
Well, there was a guy that realized that if you take that random drop and trade it for another 5 pack of duels to random people, you could duel forever
So he did that and wanted to farm to lvl 100 so he could be at the top of the leader board
He asked me to "lose duels" on purpose with him
So, we had a thing where we could whip through like 100 duels in an hour just by him challenging me and me respawning, which would cause me to lose

Sounds as a good plan. Probably as designed :)

3:02 PM
So, a few hours here, a few hours there
his badge hits level 100
...and rolls back over to 1

owned

and when that happened every single duel that he won he'd get 5 more duels plus the random drop
so every duel won was basically traded as 10 wins from that point on
so we no longer needed to trade to get more duels
And on top of that, I, the loser of the duel, would also get the duels and item drops usually reserved for the winner
definitely some error condition that wasn't tested for, because it was days of grinding nothing but duels
they never expected anyone would duel that much. it would have taken years for someone legitimately dueling to do that

really though 8k?

so, we could farm enough items to melt into scrap and trade for keys

@ewwhite heh, that rack seat thing you linked to the other day is suddenly gone from the webshop

3:04 PM
and keys can be used as anything basically

@pauska uh oh...

@Goatmale I traded like 100s of keys/refined for unusual hats. Then, traded those for other unusuals, and eventually had 20-30 unusuals
Had a HOUWAR

So I sold the HOUWAR and unusuals eventually for like 8k-ish
and I basically got them for grinding duels with a guy that had a bugged dueling badge
valve fixed the exploit in a patch, but we were never banned
In fact, the guy that was bugged had a couple of hats put into the game apparently (I havent played in like 2 years), and he mentioned the exploit to a valve employee and they said they didn't even know it existed
They patched something else and it accidentally closed that loophole

sounds like bad programming.

@ewwhite what am I looking at

An expensive alternative to a stool.

3:08 PM
the most stupid product in history of mankind
@ewwhite no, like I said.. it's removed

@MDMarra In-rack ironing board for those overnighters in the NOC.

didn't you understand me? :(

@pauska Well, the direct link still works. I'm going to see if I can get my data center staff to buy one.

what about.. a fucking stool

@jscott no it's not

But how will I give my work shirt that fresh, crisp, starched-collar look if I've been sleeping on the raised floor?

Send this to SO, or just kill it?
Don't sleep on the raised floor

@MDMarra Bet that room smells great.

@ewwhite you interview a lot. Do you always wear a suit?

@ewwhite um, when I click the link you just posted i get "Page Not Found"

the HP site is so disorganised that you get a real sense of achieving something just from finding the right firmware to download for something
I mean, its not up there with doing something useful but it's at least as hard as solving a rubiks cube

3:27 PM
pod time looks ghey...

er?

supposed they parked illegally!

"you could even go with an esoteric solution like exporting iSCSI from the Linux systems." - @ewwhite you are like the MacGuyver of storage

@MDMarra I've only worn a suit to three interviews in the past 6 years

Hey guys.. not sure if all you knew, but Exchange rollups were supposed to be hidden from WSUS
that's not the scenario anymore

3:40 PM
blerb

the juniour admin just started doing windows update on all our exchange servers simul....
goodbye DAG!

ugh
Why did he think that was a good idea?

oops, that's going to be fun

hey, @cole, How good are you with linux and wordpress and stuff?

because juniors need to make mistakes. And that's a good one

3:43 PM
@TomO'Connor Wordpress, really haven't used.

@pauska Got a nerf gun?
@Cole Bah.

we got a stupid hat
he's getting it now

I need to find an LGBT sysadmin who knows wordpress better than me.

At my old job, we all had nerf guns. If someone did something stupid, we'd all stand up on our desks and shoot that person rapid fire.

and yes, the LGBT is vaguely important.

3:44 PM
@TomO'Connor por que?

@Cole <3

@RobM well, if this results in database corruption then I'm not so sure how good it is

I honestly do barely anything with web. I should probably change that.

@Cole it's for sosogay.co.uk, and i'm tired of people going "meh, I'm not working on a gay site"

then the junior gets to experience the fun of a exchange DB restore

3:45 PM
@TomO'Connor haha that's an awesome name.

@ewwhite So, what do you wear?

awesome site.

Jeans + Button up? Dress pants + button up?

friend of mine set it up.

I never have worn a suit to an interview.

3:45 PM
I just kinda run the backend.
3
so to speak.

So talked to my boss this morning.

@Cole How'd it go?

@MDMarra I wear slacks and nice button-up shirts. No tie. In some environments, I'll wear a nice sweater. The key is to ask the HR coordinator or recruiter what to wear.
Most companies I've encountered interview a lot, so getting an inside tip on what to wear makes more sense than anything...
"Excuse me... What's the appropriate dress for this interview?"

Just ask it like that during the initial phone call to set up the interview?

It's the last thing you say.

3:51 PM
@TomO'Connor told me he would do whatever it takes to keep me happy because I have shown him more in 2 weeks than these guys have in 10 years.

an "oh, by the way..."
I've seen so many fools come to interviews at trading companies wearing ill-fitting suits....
they couldn't get comfortable... the suits looked bad and made them look worse...

I usually just wear slacks, nice button up shirt, tie + sweater (in the colder months)

@ewwhite Well anyone that wears poor fitted suits is a dipshit anyway, though
It takes $50 to get the whole thing altered at a tailor
And that's assuming that you've gained/lost a ton of weight/muscle since last time you had it fitted

I figure one day I'll have to get a suit.

@Cole Aww.

3:54 PM
@TomO'Connor asked me to please give him a week or so.

Every time I take a dump, the site goes down.
despite having a bunch of mysql slaves.

@TomO'Connor I thought you were making a poop joke

@MDMarra Nope

well thats unfortunate

I genuinely took the site out there for a second while dumping mysql

3:57 PM
What's the proper etiquette to answering a question - with someone else's answer to a similar question? Just link it?
Someone wrote a great answer to the same question on SF

@Cole Where?
Do you have VTC/Dupe rights?

Done
