@OrigamiRobot Obviously this is unacceptable. Well, I can't give you proof I won't do that, but it's ethically wrong. BTW contacting a user by mail should be the last resort when it comes to moderation. I am also pretty sure this is a cause of mod revocation in the moderator agreement.
@OrigamiRobot That's not acceptable. Obviously doing something like that with an email address gotten via mod tools is a gross violation of that user's privacy. (I'd forgotten about that script, I'll happily turn it off.)
@OrigamiRobot Obviously, if elected I would hold back from things like that (although, there are no other things like that). I don't think this one case of a joke getting out of hand is indicative of my behaviour in general.
@OrigamiRobot Also it's worth pointing out, you never actually asked me to stop the script.
@OrigamiRobot There were a few, but at the time I viewed it as an escalation in a friendly conflict. I'd scripted to email you, you'd scripted to block. Also that was a message to @GnomeSlice. You only messaged me directly once about your block.
@fredley This specific incident only directly affects you and I, but that's not the point. I have a way to deal with the situation and am not bothered by the actual emails. What I still take issue with is that someone who thought this was ok is potentially going to be a mod.
@Mana The chat is allowed to be used for asking questions to specific nominees. There's no requirement to ask a question which applies to all nominees.
@fredley A) I didn't think you'd actually do it. I didn't receive the first email until some time (a few days, IIRC) later. B) Do you think someone needed to tell you that this was inappropriate?
I thought that this behaviour was appropriate in that case, given that fact that we'd Minecrafted/Mumbled before. I gave you plenty of notice about what I was doing and you didn't raise an issue. It should be clear that as a moderator I would both be much more cautious about doing such things in future, and that I wouldn't be doing something like that to someone who I didn't think would take the joke anyway.
@Mana I posted a screenshot of IFTTT!
@OrigamiRobot When you received the email, why didn't you ask me to stop?
I'm really sorry about this whole thing, but I honestly had no idea it was such a big issue for you.
@fredley Because as I said, I have taken measures to avoid the annoyance. The emails themselves are not a problem for me anymore. The fact that you thought this was acceptable in any fashion is the problem.
@OrigamiRobot I thought it was acceptable in this one specific case and I was wrong, I admit that. I don't blame you here. It has never happened, and will never happen in any other cases.
@OrigamiRobot Well, we are responsible for our past actions, not matter what it's done. However past actions also include excuses and amends. It's actually to one and each to judge in all honesty.
@fredley How do you feel this relates to other candidates being heavily criticized for long-past one-time (to our knowledge) actions such as sockpuppeting?
@OrigamiRobot I believe anybody in a position of responsibility behaves differently. Not just their own reputation is at stake but that of the site and the community.
For the record, the point of this isn't to reveal maliciousness. I don't think @fredley is wringing his hands in delight planning ways to harass users. One of my favorite parts about election on SE is that a user must realize that everything they've done in the past will have a diamond attached to it and potentially sets an example for future users. I felt the need to bring this to the forefront because the nature of this situation lends itself to being easily overlooked.
The issues here are, in my opinion, poor judgement, shortsightedness, and failure to realize when something has gone too far. I believe these are all important issues to any candidate and potential voters. I am certain the intention was perfectly innocent, but intention is not always the same as the actual effect.
