yay, election!
(it really doesn't affect me since I'm not active here at all though, but yay! :P)

8:14 PM
Wherein we determine if a cat is, indeed, fine too.

More moderators would be nice.
I've noticed some of our older ones haven't been as active lately.
Other obligations suck.

Why is it that every time I step into a chat that's not the bridge, it's awfully quiet..?

Well, this chat probably won't really pick up until after the nominations.

@3ventic Because it's not the bridge

8:50 PM
@3ventic Most chats on the network are fairly quiet aside from the big rooms on SO/MSO

9:02 PM
So, can we start discussing now?
Or are we supposed to wait for the nominations.

> This room is intended as a place to converse with candidates, discuss moderator traits, etc.

Oh, so it's for gossip?

user15026
@GnomeSlice Well, remember it is a public room, so that would likely be a bad idea

Public gossip is the best gossip

9:04 PM
@GnomeSlice I think it's more if there is something you specifically want in a new moderator, or have a question for any /all of them.

It's bound to be friendly.

9:16 PM
This room serves a variety of purposes.
One is, if people want to use regular discussion room for regular discussion things and not flood it with election stuff, this room is a thing.
Another is, we don't do an "official" live town hall chat with the candidates anymore currently, so this room also exists as a place for people to have such Q&A in a more personal and direct fashion.

@GraceNote Oh we don't? Okay

@BenBrocka I do this thing these days.

Ah, a more async thing
Makes sense

Mostly because scheduling the event in a way that both askers and answerers can attend was... very taxing and not always successful in a way that people liked.

I was also like 30 minutes late to the UX one...

9:21 PM
You might have said that it was a bad user experience.

Good day all.

Good evening.

@strixvaria hey Strix, I seen you've submitted your nomination. I have a question for you, if you don't mind

10:07 PM
Happy to field any and all questions here, It's getting late here, but I will get round to them as soon as possible

@oak ask away but I'm on mobile chat atm

Oak
@StrixVaria In the past we had a lively discussion about ITGs (and my poor choice of policies I support in general). Regardless of our differing opinions, I remember you coming as somewhat abrasive in some parts of the discussion,
for example here, here and here - and that is a trait that worries me in a mod.
If you are elected, is that something you intend to change? Would you have behaved differently if you had a diamond? Or do you believe it is more important to be assertive than diplomatic when discussing policies, for the good of the site?

Great question that deserves better than a mobile answer

Oak
@StrixVaria fair enough, and I'm not in any hurry

10:46 PM
How can you tell how many flags a user has used?

@Qwertie No, there's no way to do that.
The only thing you can do is see how many helpful flags they have.
And that, only during elections.

@Frank how do you do that?
wait i see it

Hi all

@FAE I think I answered all your questions. I hope I did so in a way that made sense.

@Oak I would behave differently with a diamond, because when you have a diamond, you represent the site as a whole rather than just yourself. Reading through the chat log, I am actually pretty embarrassed about how I handled that whole argument. ITG turned into a kind of religious war, where I completely lost tolerance for people who disagreed with me. The vote after that was resolved was a changing point for me. It was like a weight off my shoulders, in a way.
So I would behave differently if I were a mod both because I would be a mod, and also because I've matured as a human being since that happened.
That kind of attitude is exactly why I refrained from running in the past.
That all being said, I still do say some things in a way that a lot of other people would classify as too blunt.
Maybe it's a weakness as a candidate, but I think a little candor can be good in the right situation.

@StrixVaria With that being said, what are your feel are weakest points as an candidate and how would you go about overcoming them or turning them into strengths?

@Krazer You should add that to the meta thread that gets asked to all candidates :)

@StrixVaria will do

In general, I think the whole myth of "turning weaknesses into strengths" is the wrong way to look at things. A person's weaknesses will always be his weaknesses. What he has to do is try to avoid getting in situations where the weaknesses are exploited, and focus on taking advantage of his strengths.

11:39 PM
Conversely, when exploited a person's strength can also become their weakness as well.
