So are you there @ymb1?
@mins here!
@ymb1: I almost never go in the chat, I'm not well used to how it works. I'm pleased you're here and I have always wondered why you left. I did understand today, so you have been denounced by the well-thinking patrol (:
@mins the downvoters? not why I left no (what's a -2 to 120,000!), though to newcomers they make the site unbearable
so: did I bet correctly on the Krueger answer?
I was referring to the Unspoken badge. To answer your question about the downvote, no the answer you inked wasn't d-ved.
but if I understand well, you can see it as well.
Nope can't see it (needs 1,000 local rep or something like that I don't remember), but thanks!
What do you mean sorry about the badge?
12:03
Anyway, are you staying with us? We sometimes had arguments, but your posts were always delightful to read. For the badge, what I understood is you were kicked off the site because you wrote negative comments in the chat. Correct me if I misunderstood.
it's one way (besides the mods) to verify my identity; I'm guessing a user accused you of creating another account? (I missed that part and it looks like comments were deleted)
"starred" what does that mean? Is it like "Appreciated" or "Flagged"?
I just starred your reply :)
you'll see a star next to it, kind of upvoting for chat messages
Ok, 10 years here, still no knowing ;-) Yes I was suspected to have two accounts, one to say the other posted good answers, as if I actually cared about my number of points, I've enough for the rest of my life...
as for staying, at least for a bit; the account was already scheduled for deletion, but then a long-time downvote abuser decided to downvote the 3 answers I submitted, which I thought if the staff looked into it as they should, that will be one less downvote abuser for the site; I'm waiting on the submitted flag
RE Yes I was suspected to have two accounts -- I'm very sorry, truly; that's something I didn't see once in my many years here, someone doing that
RE We sometimes had arguments -- yes we did, but we didn't make stuff up just to make negative comments; it was in the end constructive with sources
12:11
There is something wrong in SE, quality posters can be ejected for trivial reasons without consideration for what they did and giving them a chance. We won't change that, today is the reign of mean people voting to censure anything they dislike, no more free opinions
people need to read what the help center says about downvotes and comments; the site aimed to reduce to the noise, but it did the opposite, especially that the site doesn't get much activity, so it's all amplified
it's OK for an answer to be partially correct, and to be upvoted for it
and if the typical internet pundit has a different answer, that should go in the answer box, not the comments
Yes, I believe the problem is the activity is mostly sustained by advertising questions in the "hot network questions". This is the source of the votes, so I even care less about the votes now as they come from persons who are interested in "extraordinary" facts, not technical ones. And they also comment.
yep that's one of the issues I brought up before on the main meta (Meta SE); a staff member told me they have things planned for it-- and it's been 4 years now, so maybe SE will fix it in 40 years from now :)
I hope you'll keep your account here, I'm very sorry you lost your points, that's unfair, as the rep play a role in the attention given to posts. As for adding authoritative source like you did, it happens I recently found one for this question: aviation.stackexchange.com/q/43916/3201
I won't tell in the comments, as this would give credence to the theory of mutual support ;-) Still this is the way to go.
12:26
You and I are the same! See! :p :p hehe
that's an excellent find! sorry that I'm not upvoting (when the account deletion is processed for accounts with low rep, the votes are reversed and the points get taken back; though don't worry, my original upvotes from the original account stayed intact, because of the high rep I had)
RE I'm very sorry you lost your points : it's OK! I'm not. It was my choice to leave.
I don't get your decision correctly, was that motivated by some event on the site or external/personal reasons? You don't have to answer if you don't want, indeed
so can you recover your reputation and history after some SE management decision?
if you recall I took a long break from early 2020 to early 2021 (that was my comeback answer) ; and I came to same problems (plural), so no, it wasn't one event, but many, and in the end it wasn't worth my time -- and no, the points are unrecoverable; the deletion warning is very clear about that,
and I've said it before but no one believed it; I never cared for the points, and even supported a suggestion a long time ago on MetaSE for them to be capped
they cause many problems especially in small sites; and people put too much value in them
I don't remember very well because myself I did slow down too, from time to time I come again, but I'm fed up too by the fact the audience is less and less the expected one (see now the stream of trivial questions, homework, FR24 routes and parachuted animals)
the core helpful members of the community starting leaving around 2018; Pondlife is one of the recent absentees -- but no one notices!!
Actually I came back when DL was elected moderator, as I saw that as a positive change.
12:41
DL has always been helpful; I also saw that Farhan left the mod team; they deserved an appreciation post on meta -- he was always cool headed
yes many people have left, or stopped posting, when I look at some questions I see pseudos of the past.
that's my point, and that all happened before I left -- and no one cares; so where's the community exactly... sorry I didn't mean to be negative here, really
there is no community at all, just people posting from silos. Do you remember this query i built on SEDE:
when LLMs start hallucinating about animals parachuting, you'd know where to look :P
LLM?
12:50
large language models -- see the main meta for the currently ongoing sh*tstorm
You use a very good English, too much colloquial for me, I can't get the meaning of your last message. sorry
sorry, so ChatGPT is an LLM
yep
what SE is doing now -- allegedly -- is profiting off the creative commons content we made
or they are preparing for it last I checked
by also limiting which LLM is allowed to scrape the site
ah yes, that's not unexpected, they are a business and we are voluntary contributors. Ah yes I read about that, preventing MS to access the content, and leaving Google do it because they have a contract with them. I understand now, that's not a problem as long as we know.
12:57
limiting it to only one LLM is against the license we agreed to, and there's the problem of attribution as well, but this is for the lawyers to handle
you're right
LLM will be the next problem to deal with anyway, sometimes I read news articles that are obviously "written" by AI, no idea structure, just facts put together, without introduction or conclusion.
Wikipedia is also run on money; what's wrong with nonprofits when user contributions (and time and effort) is involved.
I don't care to contribute freely to business profits, as long as I'm not forced. After all you and me have combed the web to assemble our answers, so when it's the other way around, I'm ok.
I've done it the same way I do it for Wikipedia: I'm not expecting anything back, that includes headaches :)
That was an enjoyable discussion, but I'll leave now. Again I wish you the best, hoping you'll be there from time to time, and you'll take some fun at it. If you want to ping me at any time, do it (in a comment, since I've no alert working for the chat).
13:08
@mins Likewise; and thanks for joining me here!
take care!

@mins @ymb1 fantastic to see both of you here!
It's great to see two users that I value very much having a civilised discussion.
@ymb1 I have seen your flag, I need a few quiet moments to investigate and follow up. It won't be today, but I'll get to it tomorrow.
@DeltaLima: Same for you, hi. Actually we were here, but I just finished mowing the lawn.

2 hours later…
18:01
good to see you too @DeltaLima : we're not tomorrow still and I see the flag was declined -- how is it no evidence when the evidence can only be accessed by the staff? I haven't laid out the timelines etc because of the max characters allowed in the flag
18:52
@DeltaLima come to think about it, if it wasn't you, then forget about it; it was worth a shot anyways

@ymb1 On of the other mods has handled the flag. As mods we can't see all the details in the database, but the system can give some high level information about targeted voting behaviour. I suspect that the monitoring system did not flag any suspicious behaviour.
