NPC Idea #62: Based loosely on famous people/sayings.
Eureka: a magician with no sense of smell.
Plagenes and Dioto: A man and a chicken/rooster (depending on how aggressive you want them to be) that have swapped bodies

Q: How to stop a player from meta gaming in combat?

ArgoIn my 5th edition Eberron campaign I have a player who is determined to metagame in combat which makes it really hard for the others to actually get much enjoyment. Recently the problem player gained a box set of the player's handbook, monster manual, and dungeon master's guide and he continually...

Q: How does Shield of missile attraction work with friendly fire?

fubar_foxSo lets say the tank is attuned to the shield of missile attraction and a fellow team member fires a bow/crossbow at an enemy within 10ft of said tank. Does the team members projectile hit the tank instead of the intended enemy?

Q: Readying Empty Body as an action

ashnair1Empty Body states that as an action you can spend 4 ki points to become invisible. I understand this puts the monk under the invisible condition which means the monk is heavily obscured, resistant to all damage types (except force) and attack rolls against them are made with disadvantage. Is it p...

@Alan I would generally recommend not doing that. I’ve done it before a couple times, but they were pretty basic reading comprehension questions. Just be careful with it, more difficult topics can have nuances that require experience, not just the ability to parse text, to be answered properly.
If this is about the bonus action/reaction question, I left some feedback in a comment.

@Trish Congratulations, Socratic is a hard one to get.
For myself, I think it's time again to step off the pedal here. Been again spending way too much time here, and need to focus more on real life for that not to suffer from it. So, the year of the hobgoblin is coming to an end now.
I hope I was able to make the site a bit more welcoming to askers by answering their questions as best I could, and I want to say thank you for the patience of those that feel I have been not restrictive enough with closing questions to force clarifications. All of you, have a good time with our wonderful hobby.

@ThomasMarkov Thanks for the feedback, very useful. Went ahead and deleted given the links to answers that already existed, will keep in mind for next time I'm feeling bold enough to step onto the answer floor.
Hmm, that Socratic badge (Congrats!) seems a bit fuzzy in its specifications: "Ask a well-received question on 100 separate days" Is "well--received" a defined term on stack exchanges?
@GroodytheHobgoblin You've definitely improved my days, both in the original answer/work and the communal process afterwards. Good on you to realize when its time to take a step back

@Alan a question with a score of at least +1, and retains a positive score for at least one day

Got it, thanks. Hrm, time to go peek at my old home stomping grounds stats. Of course, I don't think I asked nearly that many on math from my grad school days....
Hmm, yeah. Great answer and electorate are my two gold badges there. I still glance over the site on occasion, but 3 years post grad school and doing active math makes it so that I so rarely am on the ball for good answers there anymore. Ahh vell

@Alan Thank you! Regarding the Socratic badge, another requirement is that also no question of yours was closed during the day. If any one was closed the whole day is lost. See here: rpg.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/8203/…
There is this notion of "closing a question to workshop it into a better form is a good thing", but for getting Socratic, it definitely is not. The argument likely being, it was not a great question or it would not have been closed, so it should not count.
But it will also nix any other, good question you may have posed on the day as collateral damage.
At least for me, this considerably delayed when I got to Socratic.

@GroodytheHobgoblin are you sure about this?
> That means that if half of your questions are closed and/or deleted, you don't have a "positive question record".
That’s what it is, okay.

2:29 PM
@GroodytheHobgoblin Hope you will be able to drop by now and again in the future as time permits. Have enjoyed your contributions.

@ThomasMarkov Socratic requires both a positive question record and 100 eligible days

Q: How to ask effective questions?

ArgoI'm trying to work on posting at least one DnD related question each day and I'm finding it difficult to actually get questions that get decent responses from the community. My best question (Can the Dungeon Master have a player character was posted around 5 years ago and recently my questions h...

the now deleted question on "How does one correctly role-play?" I would have answered with "there's no wrong way. There's PLENTY of styles. X does Y is just as valid as writing a 2 paragraph section or a novel.

6:20 PM
@Alan to get socratic, I didn't ask more than one question a day... doesn't burn the questions.
For the record: I managed it with 110 questions asked, 110 of them with scores of +1 to +40, so 10 of them are on joint days.
