Q: How to increase the chance of a spell's success against a foe that can save vs spells most of the time

RickLI'm trying to work out a way to debuff an opponent in order to increase the chance of a spell succeeding against it. First of all, let me describe the situation: The opponent in question is a Rakshasa-turned-Lich, with (AFAIK) the resistances and powers of both, so it’s not an easy one to defeat....

Q: Does the spell Animate Weapon let you have a Colossal Animated Object as a minion all day at level 5?

alexstrasa82"Diminutive or smaller objects are unaffected by the spell." Diminuitive or smaller objects being unaffected makes sense seeing how there are no stat blocks for animated objects of those sizes. But there is no other restriction on the size of the weapon you can cast this spell on! And there's no ...

Huh, I never thought I'd be adding an answer to a question that already had 6 answers. But after seeing the community standards about wanting personally played references with how it worked out, I saw one option that was missing from the others. Whee :)

Oh F... D20 GSL already reads BAD... how much worse could the D&D 4e GSL be that it was called to have a poison pill?
eh... found the thing... it's LONG... like, 3 times as long and all legaleese

@Alan you got an updoot from me. 😊
@Trish I have a sneaking suspicion that the D&Done GSL (or thing like it) will be similarly legalese written and carry potential poison pills. Someone at Hasbro has the idea of monetizing the D&D brand, in the next five years with a revenue target from about 150-170 million(US) to something like 500 million(US). To do that they need to attract a much wider customer base and provide (I am pretty sure) a bunch of new products/product lines/merch (and the movie and if it goes well a sequel).
Beyond their micro transaction goals and subscription model (like MMORPGs?) what I think they want to do is capture a lot of customer discretionary spending themselves rather than seeing that revenue 'leaked' toward 3PP. And to do that, I daresay they need to hire more creatives to their staff.
If that is where they are headed, I think that a split or fork of the fan base may occur. It's going to be interesting to watch.

@KorvinStarmast they missed their Christmas 2022 targets by a mile while mattel hit theirs. Christmas. As a company selling board games and stuff manages to make no money in Present season?! Q1 2023 was ruined in January and it's not inconceivable that Paramount put the gun on Hasbro's chest about shutting the F up or being liable for a few million for ruining the movie's prospects, have the already made D&D film canceled and thrown at them...
I do expect that they'll go for a walled garden again, but that went so Fing well with the GSL...
They lost more with the 1.1/1.2 leak than they did with GSL. Like, they lost all trust many had, and GSL was bad for trust already... sure, that disaster was almost forgotten, but now it is back to the board, and people won't trust them too quickly again.
@KorvinStarmast they can't with the current numbers. They had to downsize after the Q4/22 by 15%.
If anything, I expect they are steering to a FASA or FanPro end... though... wait FanPro died very suddenly, Hasbro will die in a horrible way, butchered by fans, lawyers and then sold out to the highest bidder.

@Trish I was thinking of getting some Hasbro stock, on the idea that it might get a bump when the movie comes out and it is near a 52 week low but your point on their long term risks (depending on their business plan/model) has me rethinking that. I guess you are right about paramount probably telling them to get a grip.

@KorvinStarmast Personally, I'd love it if they ticked off enough of the user base to encourage people to try non D&D systems. Lets do some GURPS, Pathfinder, Fate, Paranoia, WoD.....ahh, the good old days.

how do do underline in the markup?

@Trish you can’t.

Dang, there's underscore in the text I quote and it's needed...

Q: Why can we format text with bold and italic but not underline?

geccoWhy is it that italic and bold formatting is available while underline is not? I guess it is voluntary, I'm just wondering why that would be the case.

You can force it with special characters
Might try a Unicode converter website

I wouldn't recommend it, that'd wreck screen readers and the like

@Trish if it’s actually crucial to the meaning of the text, you might include a screen shot and a note explaining the significance of the underline.

7:36 PM
@ThomasMarkov not for the understanding. but it's Legal papers: the GSL from June 2008...
Clause 6.2 has an underline when it points to clause 6.1
waaaait... mxyzplk ... isn't that...

sooo, made my research^^
WHY the F, does the GSL read so much like the 1.1/1.2 debacle? Has wizards not learned ANYTHING from 4e?!

9:00 PM
@Trish Wizards may have, at the time, but Hasbro obviously has not, and quite a few people in the high levels of both companies have changed since then.

well, as I delved though GSL 1.0, and the debacle of poison pills (yes, I have an answer in the pipe in case next Monday has no better answer), the two situations look eerily similar, just that WotC caved then after 9 months instead of 3 weeks...
I doubt wizards will survive a 3rd, similar debacle. If OneDnD becomes a walled garden (again), their days are numbered.

9:22 PM
@Trish Or they will be sold off to another company by Hasbro, who has been selling of bits of itself now and again for the last ten years.

@KorvinStarmast aye...

Q: What are the techniques for writing descriptive posts in a timely manner as a game master?

Maiko ChikyuTo clarify, especially after Covid I have become an exclusively text based game GM and I am looking to improve my description of events (and maybe add a bit of an artistic flare) but that results in me taking an abysmal amount of time to post which can result in my players being bored or at the v...
