What's the quicklink for turning a comment into a chat room? [chat]?
:a meta search later: never mind, that doesn't exist yet
There should be a prompt if the conversation grows long enough.
It's three pairs of back and forth, or we're generally happy to move threads to chat if you raise a flag asking for it

Flags ahoy.

Q: Elf from a previous multiverse (D&D Lore)

Aaron HarveyA few years back I remember reading on a Dungeons and Dragons related wiki about an elf who was a survivor for the previous multiverse/universe, but couldn't find it when I looked for it recently. I seem to recall she was related to the Forgotten Realms or Planescape (which might be mistaken), lo...

Q: How do I ask [statistics] questions here?

Charlie HershbergerHow do I ask statistics questions on this site? I recently asked this question after asking this question for two reasons. To get a better idea how drowning works in Call of Cthulhu 7th edition To use the answer to decide how to run my next game. If drowning chance was too high, I would find a w...

@ThomasMarkov is that valid on my new Q?
@AncientSwordRage is it a question about critical hits?
11:10
@ThomasMarkov not by any existing game rules
I'm just using 'Critical hit' as shorthand for 5% of the time
Is it about the concept of a critical hit as a design element for the game your are working on?
Or does “critical hit” actually have nothing to do with it and you’re just looking for a distribution that does what you want it to do?
@ThomasMarkov those sound like the same thing to me... but if I had to choose it's more the latter

Q: D&D - Evil campaign - adding meaning

Arash HowaidaIt's all but ubiquitous that a throwing a chaotic evil character into a heroic party can lead to hurt feelings and other stigmata. Some DMs don't even allow a chaotic evil while others attempt to discern between true chaotic evils and lawful evils, where interest alignment is easier to strike a b...

@TheOracle I feel like at least part of the answer to this is that the answers were coming from a practical application of the statistics too — a 6 in 10 chance to survive becomes a lot less the more you ask for that chance to be passed for example.
@ThomasMarkov I'm not married to keeping those images but I was hoping to give context as to how I came across the question/problem
And naturally there's philosophies built in that relate to how you employ those chances
@AncientSwordRage Imo theyre a bit of an eyesore and dont do anything for you that the markdown table and quote dont also do.
@ThomasMarkov that's fair, I half expected them to be wrong in come way and would answer the inevitable "Why did you give the wrong rules?" questions
@AncientSwordRage No, those are exactly what appears in the PHB and XGE.
12:22
@ThomasMarkov I've turned them into plain links
@AncientSwordRage As an example of somewhere I have used both an image and a quote, see this answer; the point here was to demonstrate that I am getting this from a different source than the one mentioned in the question.
Someone reading the answer with Tomb of Annihilation in front of them would be able to observe that the image of the stat block I provided is a different stat block than the one they are reading based on the positioning of the displayed text within the block.
@ThomasMarkov good example

@AncientSwordRage Where'd you get this from?
@ThomasMarkov first, you must misread the answer
then, you must post it without double checking
then you make a fool of yourself in chat as well
dang, why didnt I think of that
@ThomasMarkov :taps head:
> If something you want to craft has a market value greater than 5 gp, you make progress every day in 5-gp increments until you reach the market value of the item. For example, a suit of plate armor (market value 1,500 gp) takes 300 days to craft by yourself.
Question: how long would it take an actual blacksmith to craft a suit of plate armor by herself?
Cuz 300 days seems a bit much
> Plate: Two or three days for a breastplate, plus another two or three days for each accessory. Months for a full movie-style knight set, if you want to be able to move.

Q: Upcoming cleanup of duplicate votes

Yaakov EllisIt was reported on MSO that it is possible for a user to upvote or downvote more than once on a single post (resulting in reputation changes for the author for each vote). After some data examination, we were able to confirm that this vulnerability exists (it is happening due to race conditions s...

@ThomasMarkov @bobble you probably know about this already but it might explain one of the close review bugs you raised before?

A: Is it intended that the votes from a previous (invalidated) review combine with the votes from a new review to leave a question closed?

Shiyao LiJust deployed a fix for this. We did in fact unintentionally combine invalidated leave close votes with new ones. The fix is in place so this issue should be resolved. Thanks for reporting!

In fact you yourself commented on the staff answer meta.stackexchange.com/questions/371932/…

@bobble I did indeed - I couldn't remember how well it was explained and didn't have the time to go looking for it
thank you for finding it

yeah so likely completely unrelated

Q: What's the closest I can get to simulating critical hits with a dice pool, without relying on the total sum?

AncientSwordRageI'm making a game that uses a dice pool rolling system (for my purpose it's always a d12 and no other dice), and I wanted to figure out if making a 'critical hit' mechanic was possible, that is rewarding rolls roughly 5% of the time. Playing with anydice this set up: output 1d12 >11 output 2d12 >...

Q: Translating in-game between player characters without breaking the game's rythm

Matthieu(I struggled to find a "decent" title that encapsulates the issue at hand, so if you have a title idea that fits the question better, I'll gladly take it over the current one) I recently had a short campaign (3-4 sessions of a few hours each) where we had a rather peculiar group. Q: How long can my character survive without sleep?

AncientSwordRageI got into a discussion over Discord this morning about whether the Dream spell could be used to kill someone. The claim was, if I remember correctly, that it would only take 6 days/nights because that's how many level of exhaustion it takes until exhaustion leads to 'Death'. Exhaustion table fro...

Someone_Evil I'd love to play with the python code from your answer, can you recommend a repl or easy environment set-up for it? I always tie myself in knots with virtualenv and pip etc.
I use Visual Studio Code for the simplicity, and am not really in a position to give recommendations beyond that
@Someone_Evil oh no
That what I tried last time
Thanks regardless, I'll give it another stab
