when I get some time to myself I grab the wife's work laptop, but other than that the phone is nice for browsing in one hand and taking care of incessant needs with the other
my cat doesn't attack, but if you're eating dinner, she'll sit there quietly on the floor for about 18 seconds, and if food from the table doesn't magically appear on the floor, she'll stretch her arm out real slow, and dig her claws into your leg and meow pitifully like "PLEEEEEASE I NEVER GET TO EAT ANYTHING, I WILL STARVE!!!!"

So in that thread, it was suggested that I need to upgrade my BIOS, as it only supports 3rd gen Core i5 after a certain rev, and so the memory error could be a red herring.
There is a computer shop in my town run by a couple guys who do system building and support. I figure I could bring it down to them and ask if they could help me out. Never went there but this is probably the only reason I would go someplace like that :P
I've tried uninstalling Internet Explorer 9 in Windows 7 from Control Panel, it always produces an error and fails.
From Command Prompt, it didn't do anything. The file can not be deleted. I can move it, and then delete it through Linux (dual-boot), on booting back into Windows, Internet Explore...

Oh, last week I gave a family friend (who was looking for a new laptop and heard bad things about Windows 8, but never saw it) a demo of Windows 8. He actually said it wasn't as bad it was made out to be. I still think he wants 7 but only because of familiarity :P
@BenRichards my mom liked her Ubuntu more than the Windows 8 I just saddled her with recently, even after installing Start8 before ever handing it to her, so she never got to experience the burn of "where's my start menu??????????????????"
After he figured out that the start screen is the start menu, just full screen, and hot corners, he said "so it's just a question of getting used to it". Which is really all it is.
Ever since I installed Windows 8 on my girlfriends PC, weird things are happening. At first it wouldn't go to sleep, that turned out to be related to the keyboard though. Now it properly goes to sleep but wakes up all. the. time.
@allquixotic I had to do some funky stuff to Ubuntu when I had it on my laptop (in 2008?) to get it to resume from sleep without killing network connectivity.
Sleep wouldn't work properly at all sometimes on another machine.
For no apparent reason, I get angry when EinsteinsGrandson comes in chat. I don't know why I do that!!! ;o)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
The worst part of this issue is that it sometimes doesn't really fully wake up. It turns on the HDD, fans, ... goes for a couple of minutes but with no video signal and then it shuts off again

oh. my room is very well-cooled, especially in the summer time, as a central AC vent blows directly on the back of the case... in winter i close off the vent and my room gets cold from outside temps
if anything the heat output from the case into the environment in my room is a problem, especially in the summer, because it defeats the A/C and my room gets really warm
i have to open the door in my room to bring in colder hallway air
I also have gotten dry eyes while gaming because apparently the way my desk is laid out, the hot air blowing out from my case gets reflected and redirected up from under my desk into my face. :|
Apparently the medium pile carpet in my living room blocks my PSU's air intake and causes it to shut down pretty quickly. My computer regularly sits on my bedroom floor, which has a low pile carpet.
i manually built a device not too dissimilar to those things you rotate in your car to direct the A/C flow, and mounted it on top of the central A/C vent right behind my computer
so that's how i direct the cold air to the PC in the summer and the heat away from it in the winter
because my PC isn't directly lined up with the vent, and if I were to line it up, my PC would be in between my legs when i sit down at the desk
