@barlop The question is not clear as to whether it's referring to the newer Movie Maker part of Live Essentials or the older Movie Maker that was in Windows between ME and Vista.

One other thing I used to use Movie Maker for back in the day was to capture footage from MiniDV camcorders. That's no longer in Live Movie Maker, it was moved to Photo Gallery
(Later on I switched to using Adobe Premiere for that purpose)
