@JourneymanGeek Holes + free space behind where you screw the mainboard to I've learned

@JourneymanGeek True

@DanielBeck: mine has that ;p

7:00 AM
hm not good. my edit on this got rejected.
who rejected it?

Since when are suggested edits no longer linked from a user profile?

It is right?
Go to activity -> Suggestions

Yes, but the actual suggested edit used to be linked there. At least, I cannot access yours (and I don't have any)

Interestingly, it used to work fine before the review beta
And why is the edit not locked for retagging?
Because someone retagged it, the community rejected my edit :/
wut.
the new suggested edit is messy. i can't get the source of my previous edit to resubmit

Anyone want 75% off Portal 2? I have a spare voucher...

@jokerdino Hey, you are on Steam :D

Just created lol

The actual playing time is much lower

So much wasted enjoyed time! :D

I played TF2 for a couple of hours max
Stupid Steam yet to come to Linux.

11:52 AM
Neat!

12:24 PM
@jokerdino Uhm, Steam / TF2 runs on Linux.

Natively?

Just not official, but it works out of the box apart from installing some fonts.

@WilliamHilsum superuser.com/a/62645/36744 Please upgrade answer! :D

@OliverSalzburg: Data.SE tip: select *, PostId as [Post Link] from Comments where upper(Text) like upper('%belongs on%');
Turns it into a linkified title.

@TomWijsman Awesome! :)

Was looking for a more live approach, but it appears you have to fetch all the comments and do the querying / filtering yourself. api.stackexchange.com/docs/comments
A search field would work so well there.

Q: Can't fast forward in Windows Media Player when source is FTP

Kenny Bonesthere's probably a good reason for this, but streaming WMP from an FTP folder disables a few features in wmp. This is probably because of unknown filesize etc. But could there be a way to avoid this? I have been thinking of some form of a local cache of the files. But that would require one to f...

These are quickly becoming my favorite
Belongs on SF!

Wow... getting a migration from English.SE must be a first. I remember when we migrated a question TO English.SE once upon a time. — nhinkle Mar 31 '11 at 21:23
@nhinkle: We've been interested in your site for a long time. This is just a trial run, a probe. If it works out for us — if your atmosphere is breathable, etc. — you may expect the death ships to arrive before long. — Robusto Apr 1 '11 at 17:07

wait wut

2:25 PM
@DanielBeck: Until recently I tended to get REALLY cheap PSUs and assume they failed before anything else

Q: Computer lifetime and installing programs

KarltonI've always wondered about this, if this is a myth or if there's a certain explanation to it... But does a computer really get any notable slower and gets a reduce of "lifetime" when installing something on it? I just cannot see how, if someone would be so nice to explain why. Well the SSD/hardd...

Yeah, misread it.
You can [run a IRC server on your own computer](github.com/ghewgill/soirc) which you can connect to using any IRC client, this IRC server serves as a translating proxy between the Stack Exchange chat and your IRC client. Since it is written in Python and uses IRC, it can be used on any platform.

All the other features boil down to your IRC client...

@avirk That was a dupe
Alternatively, we also have this one:

Q: Is the performance of a CPU affected as it ages?

Ben SimpsonThis is a hypothetical question about how a CPU operates. If I purchase two identical CPUs, and use one long term (say one year), will it be identical in speed to the unused CPU? FFmpeg guys, how do i convert a 720p video to a 360p video (x264) baseline one ?

@OliverSalzburg :D
@HackToHell I always use freemake to make it easier

@TomWijsman Are you using that?

3:05 PM
No, but could.

@avirk I need a Linux CLI, ffmpeg is the best

Put it on my server, be always-on here. :D
But the missing features etc probably make it not worth it...

@HackToHell Oh sorry I forgeted you are using Linux now

@OliverSalzburg you guys use regex to find out the obsolete data or other things?
@HackToHell is that helped you out?

@HackToHell how about to ping the slhck?

Q: Desktop notifications should use the icon of the site they originated from

Oliver SalzburgFor example, while looking at a beta site in chat, and receiving a notification from someone on a [su] chat room, the icon in the notification will have the default Stack Exchange icon: It would be great if it had the icon of the site to which the chat room (from which the message originated) ...

There :D

@DanielBeck need a hardware guy, dunno if Google can help

@DanielBeck The biggest issue for me is usually cable length
Other than that, I just watched the Newegg product videos of a ton of cases
Those were incredibly useful. If you want German videos, look for CaseKing ;D

Okay, let's ignore the case for a second.

A: Desktop notifications should use the icon of the site they originated from

avirkThis would be only helpful when you chatting on more than one SE network. But if you are using only SU or SO chat room then obviously you already know that from which network you have got the reply. But although it would be nice to see that feature on Desktop notification.

@OliverSalzburg here goes on :D

@avirk You know, you can join many chat rooms at once?

3:20 PM
@OliverSalzburg yeah I know and I do

Ok, for me this is a constant confusion ;D

Assuming I get RAM that is 54mm high (PDF), and this mainboard, how do I determine what size the cooler can/needs to be?
I mean, this is ridiculous...

Triple-code O__o

@OliverSalzburg Not even proper XML

@DanielBeck It also only used 3 spaces!

3:23 PM
Thats why I used But if you :D

The result is priceless though :P

@OliverSalzburg yes you can join more than one chat room at same time as I have checked it just now again for confirmation :D

@avirk The thing is, while I have this channel focused, I even get your avatar: i.imgur.com/gds4c.png

Does anyone maintain a updated ffmpeg ppa ?? !!!

But then I click into another room, and suddenly I get the Stack Exchange icon

3:27 PM
@OliverSalzburg I edited my answer check it out if it helps also if you want to more feature request as for the avatar then you can edit the post.

3:42 PM
@OliverSalzburg I too have noticed that bug

@HackToHell ping me

@avirk ping > > >> > > >> > > > > ()-)

yeah it seems to be

This is really a neat tool: rapidee.com/en/about
I can't imagine needing it often, but it definitely solves a problem :D

@jokerdino How do I search for a file named handbrake in ubuntu ?

3:52 PM

@OliverSalzburg I flagged a post did you notified :P

4:27 PM
@OliverSalzburg do you use viber?

Hi I had a really quick question: I want to maximize battery life on vista. Will running on safe mode save lots of battery?

@KevinDuke may be not sure
BUt what is approximate time atm

it would just be temporary

@KevinDuke what temporary?

I just want to make my battery life last the entire airplane trip so I thought running windows in safe mode might help.
Do you think it would?

4:42 PM
@KevinDuke I don't think it would

But less services would be running

@KevinDuke yeah that could be let me check

thanks

@KevinDuke I think this will help you
Dim the screen, don't multitask, don't use cd/dvd, are the good option as I have faces them myself

thanksyou

4:52 PM
@KevinDuke have you checked out Power save mode on vista
@KevinDuke np if it works :D

@avirk Doesn't mention SSDs...

@DanielBeck good catch :D
Bonus Tip #2: Lower the graphics use. You can do shutting off fancy graphic drivers. Graphics cards (video cards) use as much or more power today as hard disks
@kevin I think then it would maximize the battery life in safe mode

@avirk Wait, what? Changing the screen resolution?
