@Sathya You have that RSA key thingy, how does it work ?
01:59
This question became a hotshot in Server Fault serverfault.com/questions/403732/…
@HackToHell it was slashdotted ... it.slashdot.org/story/12/06/30/2123248/…
Ah, That's why it has an unnatural amount of views
It's always related to clocks. Y2K...
Oh, DISCOVER magazine. I was "featured" in one of their articles last year. Guess which video is mine :P blogs.discovermagazine.com/notrocketscience/2011/03/25/…
Yes. Haha.
02:26
@HackToHell reddit is down. I think it may be because of that problem
I wonder what other major sites are down.
@paradroid Really because of that ? I was pissed when it went down :P
@paradroid Not sure if related, but many sites went down last night due to problems with Amazon's cloud services: forbes.com/sites/anthonykosner/2012/06/30/…
Oh, nevermind. Severe thunderstorm took the servers down in a power outage.

@iglvzx O.O
(Oh my, that is embarrassing. CTRL+C didn't connect... Hehe...)
FIXED

Which datacentres? My Amazon hosts in Dublin and East US (Virginia) are fine. My Rackspace Debian ones are fine too.
@paradroid The Forbes article (that is now correctly linked) says it was North Virginia
I see. Well I have an two Ubuntu servers there and they have been fine.

That's good for you. Netflix wasn't so lucky.
:P
@Bob I posted that link earlier, above. My edited video of a spider rolling downhill was featured in DISCOVER magazine.

@Renan @HackToHell also posted to HN by me
@HackToHell algorithm on server generates 6-digit random number every 60 seconds based on some unique characteristics/key. Same algo+key generates the same number. If the numbers match, you get authenticated
@Sathya: Those things drift sometimes tho
I think actually using the token gets the two clocks resynced
@JourneymanGeek if there's a desync, you'll be prompted to re-enter
then there are edge cases - the number changes after you submit but before the server gets it
@Sathya: My bank's old OTP generators needed me to call the bank and get them to manually reset it
the RSA keys are quite sensitive to timing variations
in contrast, the Goog auth is quite lenient
by my experiements you can submit the old number about ~5-10secs after the number has changed
@JourneymanGeek that's annoying...
@Sathya cool :)

Here's a list of all the new applied 3-letter top-level domains: http://pastebin.com/zD6PHFDC Too bad: Nobody is applying for .EXE .JPG .LNK or .PNG
And yes, like many other parents, i suspect, fixing the runaway Minecraft server was a high priority tonight for my son http://t.co/VNSIj1MM

07:19
(Darn.. i'm up to act II in DIII... already)
That shit is addictive ;p
07:41
@Sathya So that's how you can enter your PC in office ?
@jokerdino I was talking abt the link to some alpha ISO
i got the ISO downloaded.
I might need a Fedora and a Debian testing ISO though =)
08:10
@HackToHell that's for connecting to my remote workstation in Finland. Though another set of RSA keys are also used to connect to my work network from anywhere
wow, that's awesome...
08:27
Is there any GUI latex creator ?
there should be ..
yeah, i look like a dumbass without knowing TeX ... and I can't draw complex structures in chemistry in paint(without it being ugly) :P
try tex.se maybe?

A: External Hard Drive needs format problem

Dr. Ghulam Nabi MubarizPlease just connect your Adata to the Mac Book PC and scane it then it works to windows 7 too because I have experinced that. Dr.Nabi

The question never mentioned a Mac
The self accepted answer sounds horribly promotional too
08:59
Is there any chrome extension that allows me to tweet with the click of a button, without opening up annoying windows ?

1 hour later…
10:47
\o/
Silver windows-7 badge :D
Stop racking up all the badges :)
:D
@Sathya Wow!
11:50
lol
He also apparently got top user of the month ;p
I remember him from when he started here :)
Interesting one
12:08
@JourneymanGeek wait, you started D3?
@OliverSalzburg :D
lol
@Sathya: my Rep graph should give that away ;p
lol
same thing happened with torchlight actually
(DIII seems to be a better game, but torchlight lacks some of the... annoyances)
@HackToHell: I seem to recall seeing a 120 dollar lenovo tablet at a local computer store
12:10
@JourneymanGeek Did you s-ssay 120$ lenovo ?
i'm almost tempted ;p
singapore, not US
As long as it's not bad like this arstechnica.com/gadgets/2010/11/…
wasn't paying attention. Was hunting down diablo, in the brightly lit maze that is a computer store
THEN realised it was 90 bucks, went a floor down, and got it at 10 bucks less ;p
WTF !!!!
I want a huge black market in my town :P
@HackToHell: I actually paid 4 bucks more than the price i was looking for
black market? naw
12:13
@Sathya Mother of God...
just price differences between stores. The store in question is not worth buying from without a membership
@jokerdino might know of challenger ;p
@JourneymanGeek lol. Asian server?
I have a wifi adapter from Challenger :))
@Sathya: south east asia
belskin I think
12:14
@jokerdino: I try to get my parts from SLS ;p
Oh, I already reported in the cleanup question...
challenger is roughly SLS prices WIth discount.
which is awesome
(though, the tablet in question. Insanely cheap, unless i misread the price... which is possible. Darn my terrier-like one track mind)
Got my blackwidow from there ;p
btw my friend has a membership card in challenger
12:15
my brother has one
I abuse the duck out of it.
but proper hardware? I do NOT buy without at least 2 SLS trips
One to get prices, one to buy ;p
that sounds reasonable.. sorta
will be doing on in august if he dosen't have to go to the old country
though
How the hell do you get a game for that low a price ?
12:18
lol
challenger is selling at 90
which is probably a lot higher cause of their overheads
cheapest i've heard is ~70ish, but thats in yishun
figures 10 bucks is worth the hassel
challenger tends to mark up stuff about 10-20 percent in general
yeah spend 6 bucks travelling :/
and time
;p
time is immaterial :P
Now, if i met the friend of mine who told me this often...
lol
I had an exam, spent maybe 20 minutes at funan, got home, had lunch, installed...
took about 2 hours...
(boooo, what's the point of a DVD if you're gonna download everything anyway?)
lol fail
12:21
then played all afternoon and most of today ;p
Seriously, just get the installer of battlenet, and let it run overnight ;p
still has 2 guest passes left... ;p
er
1
pfft
banned in hostel, AC boy ;p
12:22
(though, ya, if you want it, i can scan and e mail it)
i can't download anything more than 20 mb at once
just don't get caught ;p
actually no one checks
and i use someone elses network account
so yeah..
lol
want? ;p
sure xD
12:24
what exactly is challenger ?
send them using G+ email accoutn.
@HackToHell tech shop
@jokerdino: sent
@HackToHell: local evil big box retailed
like PC World or Best Buy ;p
@JourneymanGeek got it. thanks much!
They have everything cheaper :/ PC World sucks, it's overpriced.
@HackToHell: they have it in india?
12:31
ya
or a local clone :P :P
right, down to one key, my bro has dibs on it ;p
(he's undecided on whether to get it. And seriously? No point getting the game on DVD)
12:45
lol, the question about debian crashes due to leap seconds (which i flagged :P) is on torrentfreak
lol
its also on /.
@HackToHell you know, people who don't have clue about tech shouldn't write about tech..
> If Hollywood can’t take down The Pirate Bay, why should a measly second make an impact….
????!!!
I too noticed that, just a dumb ass writing
Tpb prolly runs on something other than debian
And btw, flipkart replied
I consider that awesome customer support
And I see that they replied to you too
@HackToHell yep. on a Sunday, btw.
12:59
No wonder they are starting to become a big ass company
@HackToHell starting?!?! They're already there.
What? Bigass companies won't reply on time.
So they are a big company, they revolutionized online shopping with COD
They [big companies] reply three weeks later... with a canned response.
Well not that big, like amazon I think
14:03
btw, Battlefield 2 is at 5$ @ Amazon, anyone wanna buy ? amazon.com/Battlefield-Bad-Company-2-Download/dp/B00452VG02
@Sathya: People who don't know about tech shouldn't make laws about tech either ;p
sadly, that dosen't stop politicians
@JourneymanGeek true
or my local paper's weekly 'digital' suppliment
DL is a pathetic writeup
14:06
ahh, diablo, how i missed thee

Q: Nvidia 9 series or Intel HD 2000?

EApubsI just tested an Nvidia 9300 GS card with a Intel Corei3 HD 2000 graphics system. Here is the windows experience index scores I got : Nvidia 9300 GS : Base Score 3.9 Processor : 7.1 Memory : 7.5 Graphics : 3.9 Gaming Graphics : 5.1 Hard Disk : 5.9 Intel HD 2000 : Base Score : 5.2 Processor...

they were writing how Facebook is great and everyone should get an account in it.
slaughtering demons till i'm tired of it, and going back for more
re-open ay/nay?
when G+ is almost a year old
14:06
nay
its SU chat material tho ;p
@JourneymanGeek good to see you enjoying. Just don't drop by the forums
@JourneymanGeek yep, was about to leave that comment
(also, I should get back to my D3 game)
nay as well
@Sathya: I like my video games solo, violent, and not very social ;p
@Sathya: I blasted through the first act in a day... and this is the guy who usually takes MONTHS to play
14:08
haha
(the new mapping system plays a part though. I have to work my way through it again on a new session, i suspect)
Diabolicious, as I call it
lol
needs to play SOMEWHAT less
i have two assignments, and SU rep to worry about ;p
(granted, the same thing happened with torchlight. Another lovely game, looking forward to the next installment)
Don't play TF2 or you will get addicted to it too ;p
lol
I don't do social
donno why
geek plays games like a noir detective drinks. Alone, and in the dark ;)
14:13
@HackToHell oh God.. it's been couple of years since I played it..
used to play it daily
It's an insane game, I am trying my best not to open steam
Already wasted 80 hrs of my life on it
@Sathya How did you break free?
I was in US when I used to play it
I just tested an Nvidia 9300 GS card with a Intel Corei3 HD 2000 graphics system. Here is the windows experience index scores I got :

Nvidia 9300 GS : Base Score 3.9

Processor : 7.1
Memory : 7.5
Graphics : 3.9
Gaming Graphics : 5.1
Hard Disk : 5.9
Intel HD 2000 : Base Score : 5.2

Processor : 7.1
Memory : 5.9
Graphics : 5.2
Gaming Graphics : 5.8
Hard Disk : 5.9
My questions are :

When using Intel HD graphics, it reduces the score of my Ram! How is that possible? It checks the speed of the ram. Not the size (i think). Intel graphics take some of the ram space but how can that effect the s
@EApubs for reference, next time just link to question
@HackToHell once i shifted back, had no internet connection for a while, stopped playing. Then the hats came out..
I joined the party late, so I am used to hats :P I am still a F2P player so no hats
@EApubs also, WEI numbers are useless, take them with a whole lot of salt
that means?
@EApubs Your chipset allocates some of your RAM as reserved memory, though idk what it has to do with the score
yep it gets the ram
but will it reduce the performance?
14:20
Maybe that degrades score, donno. There was an answer somewhere about that ....
@EApubs Intel's IGPs are quite weak, the reduction in RAM hardly makes any difference
the 9300GS is fairly outdated
too
yep it is old
14:32
@EApubs: my 8800gts is probably a more reliable game perfomer than the 3000 series on my laptop
not to mention hardly anyone tests their stuff on the intel IGPs
@HackToHell: get alien swarm (also free) and you can get a few hats free iirc ;p
@EApubs: If you want to REALLY stress test your GPU, and see how good it is, give furmark a shot
@JourneymanGeek as soon as I upgrade to premium, need more space in backpack
I got one by playing Spiral Knights
Looks nice, starts downloading ...

1 hour later…
15:46
The newest version of steam uses 70% less mem :)
yay! \o/
16:39
man John Skeet is a wimp compared to Gilles (ok, not literally)
17:22
Awesome... Big Bang Theory Pilot Episode... Quite Different! - videosift.com/video/…
17:43
@Sathya I looked through his account list yesterday. That's insane :D

o.O
I just transferred a file over Bluetooth at 3.5Mb/s... I didn't know it could go that fast...

18:17
@OliverSalzburg have you tried the new Firefox Mobile (14)?
It's almost as memory hungry as the PC version! (and several times more CPU hungry)
At least it works, though
@Bob No. I'm also not interested.
Chrome mobile interfaces so excellently with my desktop Chrome, I have no reason to look into other browsers.
Bob
Bob
@OliverSalzburg Probably for the best... my battery temperature jumped from 35 C to 50+
And Chrome mobile, in general, works very well for me.
Bob
Bob
Heh
I'm still jumping between Opera Mobile and Firefox PC
Never really liked Chrome... It's not bad, just never really got into it
18:56
Argh, what's wrong with this link?
In the tag wiki
19:55
@OliverSalzburg: Nothing. Or well, someone using \ where he could just wrap it in <>.
And well, someone else should fix \ inside `` code spans.
@TomWijsman Wow. I did not know about that.
What the literal meaning of <> in markdown?
The most frustrating thing about those links with the ) at the end is, the preview in the markdown editor looks right, but the generated output later on is broken :(
So I keep running into that issue.
> The link URL may, optionally, be surrounded by angle brackets
Heh, yeah, just read it :D
That solves that question then, I guess :D
As long as it fixes the issue, that's good to remember.
