I'm covering the CUNYAC Men's Basketball Championship Finals tomorrow evening. This is the third time I'll be covering a championship game off-campus.

@bwDraco funny thing is, if you do well, you will have more opportunities like it, instead of once in your lifetime

@bwDraco probably just search engines ;p
I've been trying but I have no idea how to get more traffic to my blog.
If only someone *cough* posted links to my articles on Hacker News or something...

You should probably search for that
I hear there are a lot of good non-spammy articles about it

@bertieb after exams

I was being facetious; blogspam is ubiquitous

The Begum thing?
Or what?
If so it's a controversial subject probably better suited for off-site chat

@bertieb ehh.

Python people of the world! I need you
> f = open("sites.txt", "r")

for line in f:
host1 = line.split(",")[0]
hostname1 = line.split(",")[1]
hostname1.rstrip()
if sites.txt contains
1.2.3.4,host1
2.3.4.5,host2
How should I get rid of the line return on host1 and host2?, hostname1.rstrip() doesn't appear to be working D:

Q: How can I remove a trailing newline in Python?

RidingThisToTheTopWhat is the Python equivalent of Perl's chomp function, which removes the last character of a string if it is a newline?

try splitlines()
or try rstrip('\r\n')

yah
it was the missing bit about assigning it into a new variable that got me
However something else is being weird which really doesn't make sense yet

I'm not too happy about how quickly smartphones become obsolete.
22 months in and I'm seriously considering replacing this OnePlus 3T.
I personally hoped for 30-36 months.
(my Nexus 5X managed just 15 months before it began bootlooping, though that's due to a design defect)

How are you deciding it's obsolete tho?
Sure, bootlooping is busted, but 'oh it doesn't have the best .... on it' is just silly

Battery starting to show issues, performance still good but falls just short of great.
Then again, despite being well behind the curve on LTE-A support (it's Cat. 6, 300 Mbps), I'm still getting very good network performance that has improved with my carrier's capacity upgrades.

6:46 PM
replace the battery
?

I don't think it's going to be easy or cheap to replace the battery on a less common device.

@bwDraco lol non replacable battery
stop buying shit.
srsly that crap is unforgivable

It's not that. It's that OnePlus devices aren't as well-supported as Apple or Samsung phones.
And FWIW, I'm already cutting spending in order to save up for a new phone.
I'm also in the midst of discharging the battery completely because I suspect that the fuel gauge is a bit off.
(I don't usually do this because it does shorten battery service life and I usually have a power bank on hand so I can avoid fully discharging it)

7:44 PM
@djsmiley2k Ya know, I hated the thought of non-removable batteries in phones... but it's been quite a while since I had a spare battery for a phone
Even longer since I changed one on the fly
Power banks are a band-aid, but they work well enough (and I rarely use even those)

@bertieb Yup.
It's extra bulk, but they're not limited to charging your phone. One of my power banks can charge Stolas, thanks to USB Power Delivery.

I don't change em on the fly
i just swap em when they get older and crap
The voltage drop is more of a problem than the capacity
@bwDraco Get a moto 6 or something

I'm still happy with my OP3's battery FWIW
And I'm nowhere near Draco's level of TLC when it comes to battery longevity

:p

8:35 PM
@bertieb what's your RocketID then?
I'm djsmiley2k31337#2602

@djsmiley2k Good timing
Will check
Sent y'all a dealie

I'm currently in the midst of a full charge cycle. Heading to Hunter College for the finals.

10:44 PM
(pin pls)
@bertieb Yeah. I think I just had a miscalibrated battery.
(ran it down completely in recovery mode, plugged it in and turned on; currently at 62% and charging from a high-capacity power bank)

11:14 PM
GeForce GTX 1660 Ti: Can stripping RTX and tensor cores from Turing produce an affordable card for mainstream gaming? anandtech.com/show/13973/… tomshardware.com/reviews/… techspot.com/review/1797-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060-ti hothardware.com/reviews/…
GeForce GTX 1660 Ti: 1536 CUDA cores in 24 of 24 SMs (fully enabled) on Turing TU116 @ 1500-1770 MHz; 6 GB GDDR6 @ 12 Gbps on 192-bit bus; 5.5 GFLOPS FP32; TSMC CLN12FFN process, 120W TDP. No RTX or tensor cores.
$279 MSRP.
AMD has their work cut out for them. Navi should have been released yesterday.
The shader cores themselves have all the Turing enhancements for greater performance, functionality, and efficiency. It's only missing the RTX functionality.

11:50 PM
@djsmiley2k, @bertieb: battery update: Battery still has at least 80% of design capacity. It just needed to be calibrated.
Charging is nearly complete.
Well... I'm almost at the Hunter College campus. I won't be able to stay here for too long.
