modern pam_motd does mostly copy the behaviour of the ubunut pkg you mention as far as I understand in the meanwhile, but what I can't fathom is whatever it's using to put together the runparts in the /etc/update-motd.d folder and outputting it :/

I use a frontend (firewalld) cause for most part I consider iptables a little too much of a pain to maintain ._.

Ubuntu has UFW but... that's a path to pain and swearing IMO

but its useful to know proper IPtables since you can often do more complex stuff with 'raw' iptables commands even with a front end

There's a big gap between a crappy 1ghz arm or mips processor, and a low end old laptop processor. I probably could have saved myself some money and gotten a j1800 probably

amusingly the only reason there's much processor load is netdata...

and by much I mean 1% on one core

@Bob so far I've not had any issues since I set it up that couldn't be fixed by SSHing into it ;p

I think I had firewalld not come up once after a reboot

(hm, mental note - see if I can dualboot this off a USB key so I have a backup ;p)

you'd literally need a controller card for hard drives. Every PC came with a floppy drive, and you'd run the whole OS off a single floppy

IDE was a improvement. Also more complex.
