If it's a coin cell, it'll probably a CR2032 or CR2025. Similar to a CMOS battery.

Are you sure your device even has a battery? The warning does say it "may" after all.

IIRC, it used to be able to store settings even when turned off, but doesn't anymore

And all old synths have an onboard cell for that

Yea, it's just really really weird that it lists every single component in that service manual, yet not a single coin cell.

The data backup section says the following:

> Except for the data listed below, all PSR-550 panel settings are reset to their initial settings whenever the power is turned
on. The data listed below are backed up - i.e. retained in memory - as long as an **AC adaptor is connected or a set of batteries is installed.**

Even if there is power? I read that as "as long as it's always plugged in, or has a set of batteries, you won't lose any settings."

As soon as it has neither, everything resets.

I wonder what the function of the coin cell is then? It's almost always used to store settings

Similar to how removing the cell on a PC resets BIOS settings

Okay, so does this have a coin cell or not? Because I couldn't find it anywhere on the board diagrams or parts lists.

Also I wonder if there isn't a cell but there are terminals on the motherboard, what will happen if I attach one?

I did see a forum post that talked about a "Gold cap" that basically held it's charge for much longer than the others and that was keeping the memory alive during power loss.
