@allquixotic I didn't think "[email protected]" would match any regex for traditional email IDs.
Weird new TLD, single letter username. Could very possible be wrong tho

@JourneymanGeek lol
I probably need to update more often
<== measures uptime in months
@Bob oh the server just got updated cause of the need for a new LE client
0_0
apparently my mesh stuff shipped out
its a saturday
0_0 my mesh kit apparently has a tracking number already
ok. At least its not updated on the tracking app. I'd have a heart attack

Bob
@JourneymanGeek ew mesh :P
@Bob eh. I picked up some seriously cheap kit that's off brand just to muck with, and It might actually work better for my use case.

some company called tenda
its going to be sitting behind my router anyway, and apparently the logins and config is local only so works for me
Guys
The 3V coin batteries on motherboards of electronics are interchangeable, right?
As in, it doesn't really matter which size I solder on?
errrrrrrr
You shouldn't be soldering batteries
but I think the overall capasity and their characteristics differ in some cases
@JourneymanGeek I know. It's already soldered on
is it a primary or a rechargable?
> Battery Notice:
This product MAY contain a small non-rechargeable battery
which (if applicable) is soldered in place. The average life
span of this type of battery is approximately five years.
When replacement becomes necessary, contact a qualified
service representative to perform the replacement.
Hasn't ever been replaced on my 2001 synth
@JourneymanGeek primary
probably want the same chemistry....
and if you're going to be soldering, do see if you can put in a case of some flavour
Welp. I'll have to open it first then.
@JourneymanGeek I want to
see if there's a service manual for the synth
But I can only find cases for a couple sizes
Hence me asking about the differences between the sizes
@JourneymanGeek couldn't find the specifics of the battery in the manual
Both the user and service manuals, that is
15:10
That's odd
CTRL-Fed for "cell" and "battery"
Dunno what else to check for
15:26
If it's a coin cell, it'll probably a CR2032 or CR2025. Similar to a CMOS battery.
Are you sure your device even has a battery? The warning does say it "may" after all.
(<--------- also, why am I seeing chat flag notifications over here??)
15:43
@MichaelFrank I think it does
IIRC, it used to be able to store settings even when turned off, but doesn't anymore
And all old synths have an onboard cell for that
Yea, it's just really really weird that it lists every single component in that service manual, yet not a single coin cell.
@MichaelFrank yeah
It could be a cap that is keeping the settings.
I think they possibly made different variations, some with a cell?
The data backup section says the following:
> Except for the data listed below, all PSR-550 panel settings are reset to their initial settings whenever the power is turned
on. The data listed below are backed up - i.e. retained in memory - as long as an **AC adaptor is connected or a set of batteries is installed.**
15:53
Oh wow
That explains a lot
Thanks so much
Wait no
These settings always get reset
The ones that aren't supposed to be
So yeah. Probably an issue with the cell
Even if there is power? I read that as "as long as it's always plugged in, or has a set of batteries, you won't lose any settings."
As soon as it has neither, everything resets.
Wait no I'm just even more confused
Argh no I got it
@MichaelFrank yep understood
I wonder what the function of the coin cell is then? It's almost always used to store settings
Similar to how removing the cell on a PC resets BIOS settings
Okay, so does this have a coin cell or not? Because I couldn't find it anywhere on the board diagrams or parts lists.
@MichaelFrank it's in the circuit diagram in the manual
Also I wonder if there isn't a cell but there are terminals on the motherboard, what will happen if I attach one?
@rahuldottech where?
This makes it clear, in about 3 places that settings will be cleared if power is lost.
16:11
@MichaelFrank I know, I know I got it
But look
pg25, right edge
That's too small.
compare it to the size of the phono jack at the top of that page.
That might be a cap though.
@MichaelFrank Lol, I'll just open my synth up the next time I take a break from studies and see for myself
@MichaelFrank Possible, yeah
16:28
> C0505 Electrolytic Cap. 6800 25.0V
I bet you'll find that there. ;)
> L50 – BAT AM-CN510 *1 Battery 2P (V705790)
Or possibly this, since it's marked CN510?
I saw that one, I think I figured that out to be the connector for the 6xD cells.
Nah, I don't think it is.
I'll just open up and see ;p
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
16:34
Here's a hint, my job title is "Technical Service Rep"
;)
You should still open it up.
I most definitely will
Cause, it's fun and I'd really like to know if there is a hidden coin cell.
I'm also working on a couple line-out and mods I want to fix up
16:37
I did see a forum post that talked about a "Gold cap" that basically held it's charge for much longer than the others and that was keeping the memory alive during power loss.
@MichaelFrank Service manual also mentions a diagnostic mode, that I'm super excited to try out
16:58
@MichaelFrank linky?
Oh, I'd been on this thread earlier. Just hadn't scrolled down to all the answers
> Storage capacitor: 100,000 µF

As buffer storage for CMOS with low self-discharge. Environmentally friendly (cadmium).
Yea, that's it.
Different model though, but perhaps not such an uncommon concept.
