3:00 PM
you might want to take a look at your php.ini for what it does with errors

What kind of errors might be happening?
Usually I would advise handling them instead of continuing

we have legacy software that generates 30MB of php error logs daily

@BenN Yeah, it's a part of the hacking challenge, I want it to say if there's an error, but not what it is

@Burgi That's concerning

@Burgi 30MB!?

3:02 PM
its really poorly written
@BenN have you seen the kitkat comment i posted ages ago?

I haven't

Apr 27 at 9:16, by Burgi
if i had a kitkat i'd use it to murder the guy who wrote this shit
@BenN ^

Ah yes, Burgi in the software company offices with the KitKat
wins Clue

That transcript made me laugh

its a super snakey if

3:06 PM
How is it snakey?

nested IF to about 5 levels, repeats itself
repeats itself
iirc there are about 300 possible outcomes
it could be hugely refactored

Ow

Someone please tell my why this isn't working:
$value = error_get_last['type'];
echo $value;

it didn't error?

Define "not working"

3:13 PM
have you looked in the php error log file?

> [26-Jun-2017 15:11:44 UTC] PHP Warning: Illegal string offset 'type' in /home/rahulcom/extrasites/hackchal.cf/public_html/e.php on line 4

Should it be error_get_last()['type']?

@BenN sigh Thanks!

Note the parentheses; PHP might not be calling the function without them

Hey Guys

3:14 PM
Hi!

@varfirstName 'lo

any clue why in Task Manager "System" is taking up 99% Disk I/O

@varfirstName One of those things which just happens. There is no explanation. Accept it and move on.
;p

I believe disk usage by kernel-mode drivers is counted towards that process
Is your antivirus scanning?

No.
Shouldn't be.
Defrag, possibly?

3:17 PM
Might be, but usually Windows doesn't defrag when you're doing things on the machine

@varfirstName Explorer indexing?

I also just checked, auto-defrag was disabled in August of last year.

i vote for magical pixies
it was mid-summer last week, they are still doing their little HDD dance

"System" is hitting 12 MB/s Disk IO

if you close the task manager does it still occur?

3:21 PM
...

you have a Schroedinger's harddive

Burgi, I love you, but you need to get your head checked out.

you are observing the the task manager and therefore collapsing the waveform

it stopped.
I don't know what it is..

@varfirstName One of those things which just happens. There is no explanation. Accept it and move on.
You shall never know, it isn't in your destiny

3:27 PM
waveforms man!

Ok
So one thing I've noticed

@djsmiley2k Hell no

When I analyze the disk, it stops the anomalous phenomenon

@NotDog consoles suck :/
I have a PS2, hardly used

RTS games on a console... eurgh
Also console gaming from a suitcase in a hostel? eurgh

3:32 PM
Okay, new challenge at hackchal.cf
Well, not new, but I modified stage 2
@satibel Try and break the sandbox? ;p

> HACKCHAL v2.0

There's a login page at login.php.
The password to the login page is stored in indpass.txt which is stored in the rpass folder which, in turn, is placed in the server root.
There's also a proxy script at proxy.php, which I use to circumvent the Facebook block at school.
lol

@NotDog Stage one is same as last time, yeah

Why do you still have your facebook proxy on the same server

@NotDog It's a part of the challenge -.-
My real proxy is on a different server

@Rahul2001 uh

3:38 PM
@Avery :

I really don't think posting content with suicidal themes is a good idea.

@Rahul2001 Trump

@Avery It was meant to be humorous, but ok
@NotDog heh, let's see how far you get ;P

@Rahul2001 all the trumping is contributing to climate change

Guys
How do I set up a Windows PC so that I can SSH into it?

Major Hyper-Threading bug in Skylake and Kaby Lake: tomshardware.com/news/…

@Rahul2001 first go to archlinux.org
then download arch

@Avery I promise I'll switch to Linux in a month or so, but need to make Windows work right now

@Avery Arch is not a beginner-friendly distro. I would recommend openSUSE instead.

opensuse?
are you sarcastic? because I hope you are.
He should install gentoo.

4:25 PM
;P

@Avery You know I run openSUSE on my servers and have done so for years.

I run arch
and archarm
actually no, I run ubuntu server.

SKL/KBL bug: If the code involves a loop less than 64 instructions long that uses the 8-bit registers AH, BH, CH or DH and the corresponding full 16-bit registers (AX, BX, CX, DX), the processor may act unpredictably.

Hey y'all
I've got a defrag running, and VS '17 install running at the same time

This extends to larger registers like EAX or RAX as well when they correspond to the 8-bit registers above.

4:29 PM
@varfirstName That's a bit pointless.

I know.
But the problem is
Defrag has been at 7% for a good half hour

This is uncommon in modern software; it's rather unusual for a modern app to use 8-bit registers, which is probably why it took so long for the bug to be discovered.

7% consolidated that is, BelovedApostle

@varfirstName do you use an ssd?

no
Never defrag an ssd

4:32 PM
duh
If you're a dev you really should look into ssds
really helps with boot times of VS

I have no control over my hardware
I'm an employee

also consider installing gentoo

Avery
Will legitimately strangle you <3

um no I'm not into that

A: Should an HDD be defragmented On Windows 10 (NT?)

Journeyman GeekAs I often say, the guys who wrote the OS are pretty smart and know better. Usually (the initial releases of NTFS did not have a first party defragmenter, and they later found it was needed) . While this article is a decade old, NTFS is NTFS, and many of what it says is probably fundamentally sti...

4:35 PM
I'm pretty much sarcastic
I don't hate windows

@bwDraco oh, i've played with Kali, you don't need to defend me and my rights to stay on Windows
just not allowed to do it on this computer

kali really isn't intended for daily use
check out archstrike. People will kill me for saying arch, but I'm serious this time.

I know my way around Linux is what I mean

If you're willing to put in effort, archstrike is one of the best distros out there for pentesting. You can just install the repos on top of arch-based OSes too.

So I've got a question to ask
Do defrags normally stop at a certain number and jump to a much higher percent?

4:44 PM
Does any one know answer for my question.See it in my profile.

@Srini Please link it here

Looks like your keyboard is set as a UK English keyboard. What keyboard do you have? — jehad 1 min ago

@Srini (s)he is quite right

Q: Trying to print double quotes(") or atmark (@)

SriniIn my laptop, I am trying to print double quotes(") by pressing shift + single quotes button. But it prints @ instead of ". Similarly I am trying to print atmark(@) by pressing shift + 2 button. But it prints " instead of @. I don't know why it prints in this manner. I don't know why this ...

What do you have your keyboard set as in settings?

4:46 PM
Please be patient, it can take a couple days for questions to be answered

@Rahul2001 oh thank you

@Srini huh?

@Srini yep, I have to agree with jehad and @Rahul2001

I had it is as UK setting guys..After changing it is working perfectly thank you

@Srini please mark an answer on your post if you feel it's been answered successfully. This lets people viewing the post at a glance know if you still need help or not.

4:49 PM
@varfirstName okay sure

I would recommend you get jehad's attention by tagging him (@jehad) in your comment chain, and allowing him to post an answer so he get's the credit.

As an employee I still put whatever SSD I want in my work computer and install whatever I want on it

@varfirstName okay var firstname

as an employee?
you're employed now?

@DavidPostill congrats on Moderator, btw!

4:54 PM
@varfirstName thanks :)

I remember a conversation last year where we established your name was BelovedApostle

@DavidPostill @JourneymanGeek -- 'You can pull out your dipstick and check, have some fancy thing that checks it for you (so cars have that?) and most of the time you should be fine.'
so cars have that? -- I don't know what you were tryingf to say here.... 'Most cars have that?' maybe?

@DavidPostill do you have any clue why defrag would stay at 7% for an hour?

@BenN What does it mean when I install something as a Windows Service?
As in, this software is giving me an option to do that

Services are programs that run non-interactively under the control of the Service Control Manager
Therefore, they can run even when nobody's logged on

5:00 PM
Ah, right. I suspected so

You can see all your existing services with services.msc

Thanks :-)

@BenN you have any clue why defrag would stay at 7% that long?
@Srini Thank you for doing what I asked. Have a good day.

I do not, sorry

7% consolidated for over an hour..
bruh
Ben
Are you comfortable sharing what N is in Ben N?

5:14 PM
@varfirstName (it's Noyb)

Heh, I prefer to remain N-onymous

@varfirstName No, not really. I never run defrag :)

My boss is suggesting I let it run its' course

@varfirstName hmmm
it'll stay at that forever, unless it's eithr running, or anaylising

It's running
or it should be

5:22 PM
running 'a defrag'?
then what pass is it on? is it changing
i think the fragmented value only changes after it finishes

oh
its on pass 5

thats not much then

What's not much?

5:42 PM
@DavidPostill would this be a good answer to this question:
You can make an environment variable for this. Like %ProgramFiles%, it will automatically route to the desired location. Go to "System" in Control Panel, click "Advanced system settings", click "Environment Variables", click "New", make a variable name, click "Browse Directory" and navigate to the folder, or paste the destination folder there. Then reference it using %variablename% — var firstName 6 mins ago

6:05 PM
its an answer certainly#

OP wants to get this link (possibly without knowledge of what it actually is), but (s)he doesn't want to get it in clipboard or type it out manually.

hmmm
XY problem detected
if the answer is 'laziness', tell them to go fix things themselves xD

6:43 PM
@MichaelFrank Then why do people still download AquaSnap?
@Rahul2001 Is malnutrition a big problem there?

@Boris_yo I guess it's because only some, not all of those features are in Windows.

@JourneymanGeek If you could quote my question in reply, that'd be great...

7:18 PM
Does an upvote really count for 10 ~~karma~~ reputation?
how do you do strikethrough?
@Dog i know you're here.
Hey!
Guys!
It increased from 7!

@varfirstName Three dashes.

too late.
/s/~~/~~~
poo
s/~~/~~~/
how do you do it?

@varfirstName Dashes, not tildes.
---strikethrough--- produces strikethrough

how do you do the replace thing

Q: Where could I find the dll/exe/process that handles the Bluetooth tray icon?

Ian Steven ManceraWhere could I find the exe/process/dll that handles this pesky colored tray icon of Bluetooth tray icon. I am very customized person, so I want to customize it, break it open and replace those resources with my redesigned ones to make that Bluetooth icon in line with that other Windows 10 tray ic...

7:49 PM
Voted to close.
I can't merge questions - a mod would have to do that.

oh
I meant to tag @DavidPostill
Thank you for merging that post, @DavidPostill

@varfirstName No problem. The OP will have to accept your other answer though.

Gotcha
I deleted my duplicate answer.
Willing to take the 10 rep hit for losing that upvote
Just so the source of information (Magnus) is not neglected. I don't want to claim his statement was my original idea, so I decided to keep that one, instead of editing the upvoted one that does not have Magnus' comment.

8:30 PM
time to get angry with cod again ;D

i watched a guy walk around a corner
3 of us shooting at him
i didn't even get hit mmarkers
omfg
It's actually so screwed now
Experience of playing well coded games in the past lets me see how bad things are maybe
Q3, UT, etc
used to play on near pro level on q3 ctfs
I was never quite good enough
I stress out when io'm doing well etc
but cod I find reasonabily easy to pull 1 for 1

26 for 7 wow

8:52 PM
What service is that?
It's the icon for one of my MFA entries and I can't remember what account it is

@OliverSalzburg MFA?

Multi Factor Authentication?
I thought that was the Bitcoin logo, not sure if that makes sense here

@BenN Yep. Sure looks like the bitcoin icon.

I thought bitcoin too
so it's likely some exchange?

I thought Coinbase, but doesn't seem to be the case
And, yes, Multi Factor Auth
And now Coinbase is down
Coincidence?
But, yeah, the icon palette in the app suggests it's Coinbase as well

9:08 PM
Bitcoinist?
@OliverSalzburg Bitcoin Wallet - Coinbase 2.3.4

@DavidPostill Awesome!
How did you find that?

Hey David. Thanks again for merging that post. Ram was getting on me about posting on both.

@OliverSalzburg Google image search for coinbase icon. Scroll down

I think I searched for "favicon"

@varfirstName He can get a bit irritating sometime :)

9:14 PM
he always comes accross angry xD

No offence to Ramhound
Just a joke

@varfirstName I've deleted that for you. Not very nice ...

I figure, answering questions draws people to the site
if they dupes, they'l get closed eventually

Sorry David..
lol
First day back on the job
I already had to do manual labor :I

10:00 PM
Well, Transformers is stunning... in that you are literally dumbfounded by the nonsensical gibberish that is unfolding in front of your eyes.

@bwDraco Harry is digging deeper :\

Link?
I can't actually deal with it now buuuuut... I can probably take a look

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Nah, not a mod issue. He's just editing the answer to reinforce his claims (without evidence) while the comments are calling it out.
