@Burgi the funny thing is I hardly have time to pop into chat
;)
/me cries for @JourneymanGeek's visiting times
@djsmiley2k well, I'm probably going to look for new work in earnest soon
11:29
Ok well good luck
If you fancy coming over to the UK I can sort you something ;D
or at least tell my employer to give you a job :D
:D
Kinda tempted to move, but. the roomie :(
you can get pet passports now
I tried to help out @DavidPostill but I'm not sure what happened
I don't think it was worth his while.
@djsmiley2k Never mind. It got migrated to apple.stackexchange.com/questions/285481/… - they can deal with it if it is a spam seed :)
11:43
what happened to "don't migrate crap"?
@DavidPostill lol
@Burgi that's the exact reason I didn't vote to migrate
wait... you can vote now?
I'd actually have been inclined to close it
@Burgi It's not crap. It's a perfectly answerable question. Not everybody is smart enough to use their smart phone properly.
@JourneymanGeek Yeah. It's probably a spam seed but I didn't think of that :/
@DavidPostill we may disagree here, but I tend to feel we need a very high bar for migrations
11:46
@JourneymanGeek Point taken.
SBM
SBM
@JourneymanGeek Migration, what?
@SBM question migration to other sites. Do keep up
SBM
SBM
@JourneymanGeek Oh, sorry
@JourneymanGeek I've unmigrated it :)
can we do that? 0_0
11:48
@Burgi I flagged as not in scope
@JourneymanGeek Yes. Mod -> Clear Migration History (IIRC).
thank god! i can't let you have more rep than me on SU! ;)
@DavidPostill leaves the question on the other side tho
and we'd close it anyway
SBM
SBM
@Burgi what?
@SBM friendly competition with @djsmiley2k, do keep up! ;P
11:50
@Burgi if you're not saying that in your best classic Q voice, you're not doing it right.
@JourneymanGeek True, but it has been answered over there.
@JourneymanGeek i thought i was
@JourneymanGeek I closed it here
Wat wat
I'm winnin?
@Burgi know anything about plumbing? :/
I think I'm gonna have to pull up a load of paving slabs
to put in drainage D:
11:58
our biggest customer makes piping for plumbing and stuff
@djsmiley2k What's the problem?
@djsmiley2k no you aren't, ~300 behind
@DavidPostill washing machine in 'outbuilding/extension' drains onto the lawn
firstly it used to drain directly down the side of the building.... which isn't clever
So I've got a bit of guttering under the pipe which directs the water down the lawn nicely (infact it's perfectly happy like that.... tempted to setup grey water system...)
but would be better to put it directly into drainage
@djsmiley2k Ah. Can't you connect it to the nearest downpipe from the guttering on the extension?
Use Branded PlasticPipes™ for all your plumbing needs!
12:03
@DavidPostill that's where it gets complicated
Easier than lifting a load of slabs and putting them back again.
there's about a .... 2 ft drop from where the pipe leaves the wall, to where the downpipe enters teh ground
it's about.... 10 foot around the side of the building...
move house, its the only solution
Also, that'll then need to go under the sliding door as well
photos would help, sec
@djsmiley2k That's enough drop for drainage :)
@djsmiley2k :/
12:05
isn't there a DIY.SE?
@Burgi Yes
o_O
according to Zoopla, my house is now worth 211,000
it's gone up 30k in a year? XD
fracking homeowners >:(
i hope it falls into a sinkhole! >:(
i'm resigned to the fact i'll never have a house but i can still be grumpy and jealous of people that do
=(
we were lucky
her dad gave her inheritence
@JourneymanGeek
12:12
I read that ;p
i'm wondering if faye and bubbles will shack up
I'm confused.
Anyway....
I'm half tempted to dig down the side of the building, incase there's a secret drain there, hidden in the mud somewhere
wouldn't supprise me...
Actually, has faye actually shacked up with anyone but the coffee shop owner's brother?
12:14
you mean brother
Of course I did
don't think so
derp
red is where it currently drains
blue is where the downpipe is
and the black is where the sliding door is, so you'd need to fit a pipe under that...
@djsmiley2k I think you need a different solution.
wormholes
is this @JourneymanGeek and his ipod?
12:28
Don't you occationally chill out to some good music too? ;p
heh
@DavidPostill yeha :/
I'm unsure exactly how legit it is to drain it in the garden
@djsmiley2k It isn't according to building regs diydoctor.org.uk/projects/buildingregulationsh.htm
Drainage of Foul Water

When dealing with this section we first have to establish what foul water waste actually is. Foul water waste is water that essentially comes from sanitary conveniences such as toilets or bidets and also includes water used in the preparation of food or washing clothes (e.g. water from a washing machine).

The rules state that suitable drainage must be supplied to remove foul water from a building using one of the following methods:

Through an existing public sewer
Through a private sewer that then connects to a the public sewer system
@djsmiley2k Your lawn doesn't fit any of the above categories.
@djsmiley2k You should post on diy.stackexchange.com and ask for ideas/solutions.
12:43
yeah that's where i was looking
@Burgi I remember that. It was brilliant

ok so on android 6 it turns out the default email send account is gmail
grrrrrr!!!!!!
it means a load of important emails haven't been received because they went from a separate address
14:15
oops?
you can't set the default send address
>

To always send email from a different address or alias:

On your computer, open Gmail.
In the top right, click Settings Settings and then Settings.
Click the Accounts and Import or Accounts tab.
In the "Send mail as" section to the right of the address you want to use, click make default.
thats already done but it uses gmails SMTP server not mine
@Burgi So you expect an android app written by google to use some other email address and some unknown persons smtp server?
er
wait, so it's like [email protected] is trying to send via gmail.com's smtp server?
14:23
@DavidPostill i expect the option to select which is the default send account especially as they got rid of the android mail app and replaced it with Gmail
@djsmiley2k No. It's like expecting gmail to send from [email protected] via smtp.burgi.com
which it does
but you have have to manually select the server
well that wasted half an hour
@DavidPostill yeah... he means the gmail app, 'mail' app?
mail != gmail
when talking apps on android
14:39
@djsmiley2k "they got rid of the android mail app and replaced it with Gmail"
yes
i'm getting confused now...
@DavidPostill They did? :/
Also, 'Android 6'
which is... old?
@djsmiley2k According to @burgi_i'm_getting_confused_now...
@djsmiley2k My phone is Android 6.0 and it doesn't have a "Mail" app ...
14:44
Lets all sit back and have a cider, yaaaar?
@DavidPostill oh ok, I have no clue what my S4 is, and it has a mail app, but I don't use it.
I use inbox :D
I have an "Email" app, but I don't use it. It's not even set up.
i have a Moto G (3rd gen), its running stock android 6.0.1. the only mail app that comes with the phone is gmail. As i understand it, google retired the android "mail" app in kitkat which was 4.4 (i think?)
@Burgi Mine is a Moto G (2nd gen) running stock 6.0 and it has an "email" app.
curious
what was the OS that it shipped with?
@Burgi How can I find out?
14:51
no idea
~(As in google inbox, the successor to gmail).
The Native Email App

Google’s stock email app that comes with the Android operating system, came preinstalled on all Android devices running on Android 4.4 (KitKat) and below. Vendors who wanted to run their devices on the Android had no choice but to provide the Android native email client as well.

However, starting with Android Lollipop (5.0), Google has nixed out-of-the-box support for its native email app, making it possible for vendors to use Android without being forced to integrate the default apps.
@Burgi This is the one I have arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/06/…
> The version of Email on the Play Store is actually newer than what came packed with Android 4.4.3. The changelog lists "increased security for Gmail accounts," "easier account setup flow," "printing," and "other bug fixes." We really have no idea why anyone would want to use the Email app with Gmail instead of the native Gmail app, but more security is never a bad thing.
> Sorry! This content is not available in your country yet.
anyway...
ugh...
this afternoon my mind has gone spongey, finding it so dfficult to concentrate
15:16
@Burgi That's what happens if you get CJD ...
mooo?
wtf
win10 tablet
you set a static IP including gateway
it 'forgets' the gateway as soon as you apply it
Yep, you have to reopen the dialog and put it back; it's a pain
you should let that MS guy know
It might only do that if the subnet mask was autofilled though?
I seem to recall that one or more of the fields in that dialog gets filled with a guess as soon as you tab into it and that the gateway won't vanish if you manually type something
15:18
@BenN errrr
so when it's on DHCP it shows the default gateway filled in (doesn't make sense)
you switch to static and it 'stays'
I would like to mention that you can use PowerShell to set up your network settings
^^^ flagged for self-promotion
:p
Speaking of self-promotion, I was considering editing my answer here to also include a mention of my open-source project that lets you finagle Group Policy on Home editions
If I was composing the answer today I would include the mention, but I feel that it might be slimy to add that now that I have a bunch of upvotes
@BenN As long as you disclose yourself :) I don't see updating you answer is a problem.
yeah
talking someone who's never done more than tap a few boxes on a screen, into going to control panel, finding the approriate ipv4 setting, setting the gateway etc is a little bit hard
she was reasonabily inteligent thank god.
15:26
DV... not enough powershell
2
@BenN Didn't work :(
She went back into the dialog, yup gateway was missing. She re-entered it but it didn't work anyway
wtf is with that link?!
Huh, that's super weird
weird question... can floppies autorun?
I've never seen cmd use 15% CPU before... Running native commands.
@Burgi yeah, I think so
15:42
anyone got a floppy drive to test?
@Burgi back home.
Iirc @Bob has one?

@JourneymanGeek those ttrss threads are amusing :P tt-rss.org/oldforum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1747
16:10
@BenN The link?
The whole gateway textbox thing
yeah, annoying too 'Hey, here's a link discribing the exact but you're seeing - :-|"
Oh, well, yeah
what's weirder? I log it for engineer....
10 minutes later, I call em back as I found a link with a regedit fix.... and the till has started working on it's own
spooOOOoooOOooooky
it sounds like this to me - the text in the box is just a label for a value normally stored in the registry.
normally the value and the text box match,
but in some cases... this happens where the value is blank, but the label isn't.
the reg fix was deleleting all the stored g/w values.
However, I checked and there was nothing left to delete once the till was back online normally.
Bizarre. Well, I'm glad it's working now :\
16:22
yah
and no engineer call wasted

repcap! twice over o.O
does it tell you if you've capped?
I'm feeling mean today :)

@djsmiley2k nah, but it's pretty easy: have 200 rep from voting (i.e. 20 upvotes) :P
you can also check to be sure at superuser.com/reputation
but no notification
> rep cap was reached via rep from upvotes only on 29 days
@DavidPostill nuke it from orbit, it has personal data
16:28
@Burgi Good point. It is gone.
rep cap was reached via rep from upvotes only on 0 days
:(
Bob
Bob
@djsmiley2k the trick is to answer hnq questions before they hnq :P
as for how you find them... I haven't got a clue. I seem to just stumble on them :S
@Bob That is not entirely accurate.
I have:
rep cap was reached via rep from upvotes *only* on 77 days
earned at least 200 reputation on 92 days
And:
92 != 104
Bob
Bob
@DavidPostill /reputation should be canonical
@DavidPostill that's not repcap
just earn 200
look at the next line on /reputation
> rep cap was reached via rep from upvotes *only* on 29 days
earned at least 200 reputation on 32 days
Legendary tracks the latter
@Bob Yes. I'm comparing "earned at least 200 reputation on 92 days" with "104/150 days earned"
92 != 104
Bob
Bob
16:37
(is tracked by the latter?)
@DavidPostill hm, somehow missed that second line on your post
I blame mobile :P
time for you to trigger a recalc methinks
The description for "Legendary says "Hit the daily reputation cap on 150 days"
Bob
Bob
I wonder if deleted questions could affect this
@DavidPostill mine matches the 'earned at least'
I think you just have to gross 200 positive points for purposes of Legendary
Bob
Bob
I wonder if it doesn't count as a rep cap day if you receive 30 upvotes but give out 1 downvote (not receive but give out). — cletus Dec 7 '09 at 7:47
*shrug*
@BenN Could be.
@Bob Hmm. I don't see a "trigger recalc" button
16:41
Mods don't have that ability anymore
Bob
Bob
@DavidPostill oh they must've removed it
@BenN everyone used to have the button down the bottom of /reputation

Q: Self-instigated rep recalc

Jon SkeetIn a few situations, it's nice to be able to get a rep recalc "on demand." In the past, I've simply pinged Marc Gravell about this, but it would be good not to have to bother him. As an example, this morning I received lots of "dodgy" votes early in the day. They were removed later on, but then ...

@Tim rep recalcs are usual instant now. In the rare cases that they can't be done in realtime, they're re-run daily. I'll try to dig up a reference for the answer... — Kevin Montrose ♦ Dec 26 '14 at 17:07

It looks like the new version of Logitech Options (6.60) is broken. It hangs at "Scanning" and a software component crashed as the app starts up. Reverting to 6.50 fixed the problem.
17:28
This probably has to do with the major new feature announced at Computex today. The 6.60 package is almost 90 MB in size, up from 25.6 MB for the 6.50 package.
Logitech Flow enables a single mouse to concurrently control multiple devices at once, in the vein of Synergy.
However, the updated version fails on this laptop, so I won't accept this update. I'll wait for the next update to come out.
@Burgi Damn I'm good :p For real Craetor's update is a serious improvement in loads of ways

@Bob Yeah. This might even force AMD to drop prices a bit.
@Bob that's indeed a silly approach to support. I can't speak for all teams, but what we try to do is create a community of excited MVPs (generally consultants who build services on top of our platform) to be the active front line of support and we catch anything tricky or that isn't replied to quickly. Generally our primary focus is product development. We need customer contact and understanding to direct that well, hence hanging out in this chatroom lol
AMD has the margins to do this. It's been reported that they're getting 80+% yield and the die is less than 200 mm^2, so Ryzen isn't all that expensive to manufacture.
