@karel How did yo find the images for the messed up PDF question?
0
Q: Printed LaTeX PDF is missing ä, ü, ö, but has ß

Martin UedingI just printed a PDF that I created with LaTeX on a Canon MX 340 that is connected via WLAN to my Kubuntu 14.04 machine. There it uses the CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.10-pre2 driver. I use the following in my preamble: \documentclass[11pt, ngerman, fleqn, DIV=15, headinclude, BCOR=2cm]{scrreprt} \use...

They don't look like they were the originals, but they still get the point across.

@GypsySpellweaver I found the question's missing images by using the Internet Archive Wayback Machine webpage for the question from this link: web.archive.org/web/20140614011040/http://superuser.com/… btw if you have any questions about markup or formatting, you can ask me here.

Darn. Never thought to use Wayback on the question itself. I've always looked for the image link itself.
@karel Been doing good sofar, just the lack of bold in the title through me for a loop. knew it as soon as I seen the revealed page pending review. Knew the reviewer would catch it, hopefully.

Tempted to just buy a router to solve this problem :$ the problem is I can't figure out why my forwards won't even work with ipenwrt
*openwrt

@Ramhound I'm sure you checked already, but is your ISP blocking traffic, so nothing to forward? OTOH, if it's internal attempts, do you have it set to protect from internal traffic?

No; It's Xbox Live and if I connect the Xbox directly to the Xbox it works flawlessly
I don't think I have it set to block/protect internal traffic what's weird is Xbox Live says open NAT but adromedia MP disconnects every time
it worked once on wlan but then my Xbox installed an update on the 3rd and since then it didn't work except once...( until I rebooted the Xbox )

Just couple ideas from my past. Router protecting port forwards from the LAN drove me nuts till I found the setting. Some old Linksys that I don't have now.

i know why it works.... upnp

I have managed to avoid needing upnp, so far. Don't know enough to trust it.
Safer to not use it when I don't know it.

3:53 AM
thats because the stock firmware supports it :-) unless your using dd-art or openwrt?

I've always looked for it in the router and turned it off. It hasn't broken anything yet, and I just know so little about security, that I try to only enable, or use, what I have to, and try to learn what I can about what I do have to use.
That's going to be the worst part about switching to a dedi box, whenever I do. Just don't know security.

Well, upnp has its issues but nothing important would be on that network (amazontv, Apple TV, Xbox)

<-- lilly-livered yellow-belly chicken

I think I have to use a different disto of openwrt (lede is a fork) this build I think I need to use indicates it has support for upnp but the upgrade instructions are vague.
Choices choices, what I really want is to connect my router to my vpn (lifetime subscription) but while my vpn provider does support it I only ever did it through their client

Got one of the image clean ups that, rather than reposting the image, referenced the one he posted elsewhere - now deleted. Maybe the image in that post is still good, and can be used to fix the current one.

I'm going to try to take a bite out of the upgrade tag

@JourneymanGeek can youget to this post and see if the image is still live?

SO post... so no
You'd need a SO mod or 10Ker there

Afraid of that. Image there is refered to by post here.

@JourneymanGeek When doing the tag cleanup is there any point in cleaning up questions that are closed as off-topic or unclear? Will these remain, or will they end up being deleted later anyway?

@GypsySpellweaver I'd personally just delete them in most cases

@JourneymanGeek Skipping it then. Thanks

There was a hilariously long and panicky-sounding message at the beginning too.

@Bob Weeelll, It is lunch-hour somewhere.

Bob
@GypsySpellweaver It's also 6:15 PM on a Sunday and this is the line for local travel card...

@Bob How many spots in the queue did that recoding cost you?

Bob
@GypsySpellweaver No idea. I gave up. Probably like everyone else.

@Bob Around here, lots of places have begun to offer a "call back" feature. Enter you number, and when you're next in the queue it calls back. Claim "you won't loose your turn." I've had a call back as late as 5 hours later.

@GypsySpellweaver Yea uh no. I hate those, especially when they force them.

And they don't bother saying how many either.

I tend to not like receiving phone calls. Cause then I'm in the middle of something else.

Fortunately, I rarely involved in something else. Either I'm home, and available, or gone, and don't get called anyway.
I feel like I'm spinning my wheels with the tag clean up. I can only do 5 at a time, then wait for two people to review them before I can do any more. Doing my part, but feels like trying to rescue sand from the waves.

lol
Every tag you fix, I don't have to ;)
@GypsySpellweaver clear. GO GO GO

@JourneymanGeek Next time there's a clean up, maybe I'll be 2K+ and can really help.

@GypsySpellweaver I'll keep an eye out on the queue
I'm currently battling corruption

@JourneymanGeek I'm trying to unrecover recovery

Just tripped over one that didn't make the image fix too.

Morning peeps. How is the cleanup going?

Busy Bees.
@DavidPostill I stand corrected, it did make the list, just user screenshot no longer available and I can't tell what the problem was either. I think I know about where the process stopped, from reading answers, but not sure. Is it ok to do the tag edit now, and leave the image issue for the future?

@GypsySpellweaver Of course.

@JourneymanGeek did you nuke that one about no optical drive?

er. I believe so.
that you edited the tinypic link from HTTP to HTTPS?

@JourneymanGeek OK, updated that in the image fix table too. Only way I could get it to take the tag edit. Had to add six characters as well.

lol
Leaving the image fixes to other folk. You're doing an awesome job and at some point I'm going to trickle in ninja tag edits.

@JourneymanGeek huh?

Tis a pain tho

@Rahul2001 Answer it.

Hm, can anyone find a question on the site regarding using emojis from cmd? I couldn't

@Rahul2001 emojis are not in my repertoire. I'm stuck with the old-school text-only emoticons. And they always have worked in text-only environments. No help here.

@Rahul2001 eww

I'll throw a nice juicy bounty on it

Hm, I have a solution!
@JourneymanGeek Can the asker get the bounty if someone else puts it up?

lol. In theory, yes

Isn't it just using unicode code points?

In practice ... ehhhh

@DavidPostill How come the properly standard formatted imgur image links that are not https didn't get caught in the image fix list? Or is that a question for Ben?

@GypsySpellweaver For @BenN

@DavidPostill hah
i'll fix it properly in a little while - i'm just c onfused why it worked for 99% of tyhe questions i've done, and not this one?

I've met with a few of them. Done enough with the images already that I'm ready for them when I find them.
@djsmiley2k The HTTP image was the trap.

@GypsySpellweaver @djsmiley2k Yeah. You have to fix those now if you make an edit.

@Twisty Welcome to the party.
'Bout time for me to start a new pot of your miracle juice.

What do we call tags that are being taken out of use? I noticed the guidance tag for says "deprecated", but that doesn't mean "retired/banned", etc.

Tag wiki has:

"DO NOT USE THIS TAG! "
Too vague, recover what? System data, files, partitions, product keys?
Speaking of which, @DavidPostill I got one about recovering the product key for windows, Want to use the [product-key-recovery] but theirs only two other Qs on that tag. Is it a good tag, or one to loose?

Yes, I saw that. But deprecated means "disapprove of", not "don't use". When a command is deprecated, it's still supported, but the developers are planning to retire it and are giving users a heads-up so they can transition to another solution. Maybe I'm being too picky, but I work in a 0s and 1s world after all. ;)

@Twisty The wiki needs work too :D

10:37 AM
What do we do with tag synonyms that point to retired tags?

@Twisty Worry about that later :)

@Twisty Got me, I'm new here. That's why you are having to approve my edits.

@GypsySpellweaver Keep it for the moment, unless there is good alternative.

Can I be curious now? I don't need to do anything about it now...I just actually don't know how you even go about un-creating a synonym.

@DavidPostill done

@GypsySpellweaver I am sitting on the edit queue.

@DavidPostill Try not to make you wait too long ;P

@Twisty 2k+ user can review suggested edits :)

Been a while, eh?

@Twisty True.
Mods have no review limits as far as I know ... :)

@Twisty It got you a Steward badge anyway. :D something for your troubles.
@DavidPostill I sure hope not, else we'll be dead in the water soon. :{

@FleetCommand He can VTC directly but I think he can still 'flag'? Right?

11:09 AM
@FleetCommand I can VTC, not much weight behind it though.

@FleetCommand link to what? It's a draft, I haven't posted it yet

@Twisty Sin't that the same thing?

@GypsySpellweaver No, flagging puts it in the VTC queue, but doesn't actually cast one of the required votes to close. However, it's still useful that you do so, so as to bring it to the attention to others. Plus it's good practice for when you hit 3k.
@Rahul2001 Does it only mess up when you post? I just pasted that into an answer (without submitting it) and it looks fine.

@FleetCommand Okay, problem
<pre> breaks the flow if the code is part of a bullet point

@Rahul2001 Just replace <<REDACTED IRRELEVANT INFO>> with ... :)
@Rahul2001 If it's a bullet point you need to start code lines with 8 spaces not 4.

Any idea why the guidance for discourages use of the generic tag? Compare the which is worded such as to encourage use of that tag.
Probably semantics on my part...

@Twisty Same meaning in reverse syntax. Different authors most likely. Specific tag if issue is specific, otherwise general tag.

Well, that explains a lot. I've been watching my achievement box of rep updates so that I know when edits have been approved and that I can continue on. Couldn't figure out what was taking so long for the queue to clear. Figured it out, finally.

Civil servants are almost as hard to terminate as weather forecasters.

@GypsySpellweaver er.. nothing really visible at your reputation level sadly

@JourneymanGeek Didn't realize I'd collected so much. The rep was my clue. Every jump meant another chance to edit. No more jumps today :(
