I'm a caaaaaaaaaaaaat
..... ponders changing @Annaduh's main site to SU and their nick to mittens
@allquicatic Bit of context - Gareth essentially single handedly fixed every single broken image on the site at one point
@JourneymanGeek dooo iiiiit!!!!!!
@Burgi that's actual abuse of my mod powers.
and now that I've said it, I'd get caught
@BenN could do it...
;)
Heh, sorry
00:11
Does that mean the mod that originally changed my name to "Dog" was abusing his powers too?
If you felt strongly enough about that user showing up as "mittens" you could write a userscript ;)
my floor at work has finally been shown the new company website that my and my minion were expressly forbidden from working on....

Journeyman GeekJust to follow up on this. Woke up to a massive drama fest related to this, and it really is a superuser/root access issue so... The user in question has been told I reserve the right to switch their account back to the one on superuser. Its disruptive as hell and Its un-necessary drama. He's a...

@Annaduh That's literally what RDG is for :P
OK Extreme networks' wireless APs are extreme(ly) good
00:14
they have an unskippable 5 page splash screen
Oh dear
@Annaduh no one changed your name to dog. We might have propagated your profile on one site to all the sites, but AFAIK it didn't quite take.
and the main page is a tiled grid of news articles that change at random every 2 seconds

@JourneymanGeek Actually a mod changed my name to Dog
@Annaduh not as far as I know.
I never set it to "Dog" the first time
Totally was not me.
I know it wasn't you
00:17
Yup
whoeover it was, bravo.
But I have no clue who it was
It was either jokerdino or art of code, and you were there when it happened
ahh You asked for it
For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure chat mods can't set your name directly; they'd have to change your name on a site and then assign your parent user as that site
@JourneymanGeek THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID
But I might be missing something
00:20
I mean if you said "change my nick to mittens" and I asked "Are you sure?" and you said "yes" I'd totally change your name to mittens.
meh, who care

Bob
Bob
@Annaduh ...I was trying to search for that but I think I crashed SEChat search
@JourneymanGeek Ah but only I could change it on other sites!
Also, I see underflows was being creepy again.

don't new users have to go through the "initiation"?
I wonder who the other two dogs are
i want to know who the other @Burgi is....
I'd happily take the name Mittens but I really like being Anna
@JourneymanGeek THAT'S CONSENT!
awwww
your chauffeur looks a little tired @JourneymanGeek
i was trying to think of a pun with chauffeur and Schnauzer and totally failed
lol that's waiting for granpa at the airport
he gets... impatient.
i couldn't see where overflows was being creepy....

you'd have had to say the same to djsmiley as well though
@Burgi For saying "who is she, I mean sure she's cute."?!
its roughly the same sort of context...
sorry, i'm over analyzing your moderation....
This isn't really moderation tho
Moderation is suspending someone for it ;p
this is... an observation
00:44
i bet you have a dossier on us all
like batman has on all the justice league memebers
What kind of crazy PC gone mad world have I been born into :-(
@Annaduh er I'm not saying "don't do this" or "OMG TRIGGERED"
I'm saying I found it creepy
is black friday when we all have to listen to rebecca black?
Even as a mod, I'm entitled to an opinion
@Burgi yes.
00:47
@Burgi I just have a decent memory
and an NSA style dossier taps nose mum's the word ;)
yay! new slowmo guys
hi every1 had a question regarding Open Office setting default font's,size.I have read this url here wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/FAQ/Writer/… and it says to click on OpenOffice.org Writer whereas I'm not getting that option itself so what do i do now
Bob
Bob
@user285oo6 sounds like a question for Super User
Or just browse through the options until you find it.
@user285oo6 hint, there is an option called "fonts" there....
@Burgi but it doesn't give the same options like the one on the site
00:59
which app are you in?
@Burgi Open office
and which sub app...? writer?
@Bob no question there
Bob
Bob
@Burgi not used OOo in a while, but if it's anything like MSO then Fonts probably refers to general font settings and not the font size in the default template/style
@user285oo6 Either you should ask the question on Super User, or you should browse through the available options within OOo until you find it.
When I say "browse through the options", I'm not talking about existing SU questions.
And all existing SU questions must be asked by someone.
@Burgi Impress
01:02
you need to be in writer
@Burgi ok ya got but how to do the same in Impress because for every slide i have to change the font,size

The latest Firefox Developer Edition update is buggy as all heck. I just experienced two tab crashes in a row with my Best Buy profile page open.
Bob
Bob
@Annaduh Telling people to not ask questions on chat when they're suitable for main.
@user285oo6 hit F11 in impress, select the font you want to edit and hit modify
Bob
Bob
I'm alright dealing with troubleshooting questions on chat cause it doesn't work well in Q&A, but this is really a question that should be asked on main.
Mobile Firefox (stable release) has been extremely unstable the last few days as well. It's crashing regularly with even moderately intensive browsing (10-15 tabs).
if you ask the question on the main site i'll give you a better answer
01:06
@Bob ya working on it
@bwDraco the stable version was giving me weird JS errors this afternoon
bedtime
nn
Bob
Bob
@bwDraco That reminds me, I need to update sometime. Meh, let's see how it handles my ~600 tabs
I honestly have no idea how many tabs I have on mobile FF now :P
@Annaduh Depends if it's being used ironically (?) or not.
@Bob hence the thing where I get annoyed at people unfamiliar with chat doing that
people familiar with chat will know this is not a place for quick questions
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek eh, I see leeway for really quick'n'dirty, and ones that don't work well on main.
@Bob and knowing what you can get away with
Bob
Bob
01:14
@JourneymanGeek Admittedly, I've used chat a couple times for "anyone happen to know..." questions when the first search doesn't hit anything but I'm still in the middle of searching :P
And more often for seemingly-obscure errors... yay troubleshooting... -_-
Hm. I need to make self-answered Qs for some of those actually
troubleshooting is different
and well
I personally give regulars more leeway ;p
heh
@Bob turns out the blade stealth 2016 just came out
which explains the niceish discount on the old model ;p
(but I'm cool with it ;p)
(kalby lake, twice the ram, but meh, 8gb is good enough)
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek ahhh
@JourneymanGeek urk. yea, I personally feel the squeeze with 8 :P
even though I run tablets with 2/4, but I don't do anything heavy on those :P
is the RAM upgradeable?
or soldered?
soldered
@Bob I don't, and well my main pain point with the x220 was the screen
battery's supposed to be only something like 6 hours, but that's fine
especially if USB PD powerbanks become a thing ;p
they should, right? ;p
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek main problem these days is webpages becoming bigger
so RAM is the most likely thing to become an issue in, say, 5 years
0_0
in 5 years, I'll buy a new laptop and switch this to a secondary
Athena II's getting a new battery and passed to dad
Bob
Bob
01:24
@JourneymanGeek not seeing them yet :\
@JourneymanGeek fine, 3 years :P
apparently dell USED to have one
Bob
Bob
actually really hard to predict
@Bob Oh I do that all the time
Bob
Bob
massive jumps since 2013, but dunno if it'll slow down
@Annaduh you monster
Bob
Bob
01:24
@JourneymanGeek uhhhh
most powerbanks are like 10, maybe 20 Ah
say 70 Wh at the higher end
your laptop battery is 53 Wh
accounting for inefficiency, maaaaaaybe one full charge
;p
good enough
Quick question guys
also, the 45W charger for the stealth is tiny
Bob
Bob
but USB-PD would require stepping ~3.7V up to 15-20V, which sounds like it would be pretty inefficient to me
Is chat a good place for quick questions
01:26
@Annaduh No, go away n00b.
@Bob true
@Bob Unless they're connected in series
After all, 12-16v laptop batteries don't step up 3.7v...
Bob
Bob
@Annaduh true, but PD would also have to handle 5V, etc
so maybe they'll have it at ~7.4V
or maybe just optimise for the higher power devices
slap a USB-PD controller on a laptop battery? :P
;p
that makes an odd amount of sense
Bob
Bob
@Annaduh I actually have no idea how a buck-boost converter compares to a pure boost converter (re: complexity, efficiency, etc.)
@Bob Stepping down would still be more efficient though
01:29
since ultrabook batteries are probably tiny
Also, 3 cells typically means 10v-ish
Bob
Bob
@Annaduh oh yea
Not sure what configuration the ones you're talking about are, mine all come in 3xn
I wonder if switching battery topoligies on role makes sense
charge in parallel for 5V in, and discharge in series....
Bob
Bob
@Annaduh the ones I've taken apart were all 1s/4p :\
though I haven't pulled any QC ones apart yet
considering I only have the one QC powerbank that arrived a couple weeks ago :P
01:31
@Bob My Anker quick charge one is 3s
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek presumably it'd charge with USB-PD too
@Annaduh ah
@JourneymanGeek You'd require a more complex controller, but I don't see why that's not possible
@Bob hm, apparently razer's making a stealth compatable powerbank
I've got a laptop battery with built-in balancing, 3s2p, could voltage balance each pair of cells
Bob
Bob
@Annaduh I think the newer ones I have all switched to pouch
which reminds me, I should toss out some of those ultrafire 18650s before they live up to their name
01:46
Hello, sorry for asking such question (i don't know if this allowed, please forgive me, if it doesn't). Can I just install Apache while having nginx running listening port 80?
*ubuntu 16.04
Yes. Just set it up to listen to another port.
Its a very common config actually, when running multiple web services
it would ask for other port right, I mean, apache would refuse to activate as there's nginx on 80 right
Bob
Bob
@skeith It would fail to bind port 80 and give you an error.
It won't ask you for anything.
You need to go edit the configs.
awesome, thanks @JourneymanGeek and @Bob
or on next boot, apache starts first and ngnix won't start
01:49
I hate when a package default and depends on apache and fails the install
rip english
@skeith eh, that's poor design in many cases.
and that's the sort of package I suspect running in a container or VM would be a great idea
the package do support and provide nginx config
i don't know why the devs default to apache while installing
and I wastes several hour on it
@Bob Hmm, I've not seen any of those actually
@skeith could tell it to list dependancies, ignore dependancies and install dependancies specifically and configure it by hand
Bob
Bob
@Annaduh Xiaomi slim stuff, definitely. I think the Tronsmart QC/Type-C one I recently got is too.
Though the Tronsmart *might* be prismatic
It's too thin to be 18650...
and other cylindrical sizes don't make much sense
01:55
I saw one of the dev response on their forum about the install fails because apache isn't installed, the dev said, it shouldn't do that, well, it does. I guess they did not realize it until now
Bob
Bob
@skeith you're lucky there
there's lots of stuff that relies on .htaccess, or some weird mod_php quirk
I'm running ownCloud on Apache httpd even though I usually prefer nginx
Because I'm too lazy to try to translate security-relevant .htaccess configs
which reminds me, I need to set up letsencrypt sometime
I feel you.
Why do everything assume I uses Apache? why nginx is so ... uhh nvm
@skeith cause apache is more popular
and ngnix occationally does funny stuff with features/licences
I run lighttpd, which gets little love
but is perfect for 90% of what I do
I was apache user back then when I am still using shared hosting
then a friend told me to learn using a VPS and nginx
since then, I use nginx
lol
I switched to lighttpd cause I got a VPS
my current low end dedi can handle apache but why mess with what works..
02:04
*whispering

my friend was a nginx fanatic
Bob
Bob
I don't run apache because the standrd there is apparently mod_php, and I hate mixing the script engine into the webserver
Heck, even IIS/ASP.NET doesn't do that anymore!
(Well, technically, that's not recommended for Apache now either, but most default installs still do...)

Q: What does the lightning bolt mean?

Are moderation questions on-topic in this room?
kinda sorta
there's a seperate room for asking SU mods questions chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/114/ask-a-super-user-moderator but I'm not going to tell you to go away for it
Of course, SU moderation only

They suggested server fault, but I can't find anyone over there
We'd kick it back. Nowhere near enough information
and it feels like the OP ought to just run an older centos version with support for that.
annnd it feels like an XY question

@Bob: my Tronsmart micro USB cable has now degraded to the point of no longer charging my S4 at full speed off the QC ports on my Aukey multi charger. Though it still gets pretty close (1.7-1.8A instead of 1.9).
But in any case, it seems the cable is starting to wear out atm
The Aukey cable is still fine, as is the much thinner Anker cable, though that one is kinda cheating since its only half the length

@allquicatic but a large part of the Apple draw was the ecosystem
would be... interesting... to see them go full phone, I suppose
dangerous, though. would only take one bad release to ruin a brand
@allquicatic apple's desktop business is... Odd.
Their previous halo product gets barely any love. And iMacs are the Saabs of the PC world....
And really, there's only so much you can differentiate a aluminum slab....
