Erf. This is not good.
@JourneymanGeek Who what where
3 of 4 of the newbies are out sick
including the guy I was helping.
Uh-oh. Viral outbreak?
Sorry I didn't meant to be annoying. And I meant asking on the main site later
Donno
And I need to pick up and process machines for scrapping, which is a 2 man job.
00:30
However I've found a workaround, If anyone is interested.
@Freedo Sure! I am interested, I've used it in the past and might use again.
However, please ask a question and then answer it yourself with your workaround
That way, you can help more than just us here in this chatroom!
01:16
@ThatBrazilianGuy beats me.
02:11
/me beats @JourneymanGeek wiht a large cucumber
eats it
I'm just gonna go slow today.
11pm and I should go to sleep
In fact, I will. Now. Bye!
Eh. While being able to check notifications on my watch is handy.... I've not yet had a damn, I really wish my smartwatch would do x moment...
02:47
@DavidPostill SO CUTE I LINKED TO MY FRIEND !!!
@Burgi that is very clever of you!
ha good one psycogeek
03:15
That's why I don't like to ask questions on the main site
I usually discover a workaround by myself and If I post it on my own question I probably look like a upvote whore
...and I am so leaning towards a business-class laptop to replace this system (after the desktop is built).
ThinkPad, or something else?
(This might be at least a year away.)
LET ME HELP YOU WITH THAT
there is hope in actionscript
03:41
Father wants a convertible laptop, and I really want to suggest the ThinkPad Yoga 260...
no dont buy a laptop thats called a yoga
can the screen be laptop sized?
omg
no tablet sized *
04:06
12.5-inch.
That's still fine (@JourneymanGeek's HP Stream is 11.6-inch). Besides, it's a ThinkPad, with all the productivity and durability advantages it carries.
I also have a x220
It also has pen input (a feature Father wants).
I like the size. Just make sure it's better than 1366x768
1080p.
That res needs to diaf
04:10
No more crappy 1366x768 displays on these sorts of laptops.
Thank goodness
I am adopting a professional, businessman-like approach to personal conduct effective tomorrow. It's a evolution of the old "gentleman" concept that was originally inspired by the Analects of Confucius.
ehhh. You're doing it again. By which I mean talking lots about what you're going to do
So, should I wait for the Kaby Lake refresh?
@Aibobot: is there anything official from Stack Exchange that prohibits you from using the full mod account in an untrusted environment?
@bwDraco no
04:20
(I hate that mobile chat sometimes duplicates rather than properly edits messages)
I quite literally think this computer is a complete piece of shit I do not trust and do not want to run my main account on it.
On the other hand, it has a keyboard
It's getting late here. Night.
Haha nice I now have more rep on su than so
I really didn't expect +8 as, like, one part is actually useful, one is a possibility along with a story and one only really helps people with security addiction :P
Well, should I wait for Kaby Lake before buying a new laptop?
04:35
I donno
I'm currently waiting for a more stable job, and my current stuff works fine
I consider computer gear a 5-6 year investment and the next model's always better
I'm working on the assumption that the machine needs to last at least five years (his current desktop is close to nine (!) years old and I want to see similar service life from a new system, hence a business laptop is preferred).
In that case I wouldn't really wait for kalby lake
Why?
I don't find that the performance difference between modern processors that great. The interesting upgrades are in storage and maybe ram
...and should I get Father to switch to Chrome or Edge?
04:47
If I wanted to wait, I'd actually wait for zen, since if its competitive, it should do interesting things to prices
hm. I donno. If he uses IE, hell yes
That's an interesting perspective.
He's on Firefox, which has horrendous power consumption.
Well, everything I see about zen looks interesting
Meh, that feels like nickle and diming on power
Sep 17 at 4:24, by bwDraco
Edge only briefly bursts the CPU in most cases, while Firefox puts a near-constant load on the CPU while rendering a page.
I've never seen that
On desktop or gaming laptops which aren't power-optimized the way modern low-power laptops are these days (with PMICs and aggressive power management of every major component), it's not a big deal.
It's an entirely different story on these new low-power machines.
04:51
I'll switch to edge once it gets a script manager and stylish extension
I use Firefox because I have specific requirements but it's not the best choice in a mobile environment absent the need for features like Firefox Sync custom servers.
@arda heh. My killer extention for firefox is oneliner

My friend found some hot sauce from Mexico
It makes my face go numb.
hehehe
I used to be quite a wuss with hot stuff, but we have a rule at our bbqs etc
what you put on a burger etc, you eat. No exceptions...
So one day I was trying to get a little bit of my friends ghost chilli sauce to try
and the bottle went 'BLOP' and a huge blub falls onto my burger
D:

I have no idea where my whole department is....
"SURPRISE!"
09:16
Huh, OVH was hit by a >1000Gbps DDoS just a few days ago? Bleurgh

@Burgi Not having a job doesn't mean not having a life.

Hello
09:49
hm. I may have a quick software recs question later
I need something that will scan a barcode from an android phone and chuck it into a google docs sheet or csv...
@Aibobot You can copy paste the URL/code into a doc
@Rahul2001 I need to do... a lot of systems
I really rather scan scan scan email...
then manipulate the data on another system
@Aibo That works for you?
nice find
@Psycogeek That's really old
@Burgi DuckDuckGo is awesome
10:04
Prefer free :p
The alternative isn't that much more work
cough... Have you guys heard of this really awesome illegal app called blackmart? cough
Eh. I outgrew software piracy.
@Rahul2001 You should really go and see a doctor about that cough ...
@JourneymanGeek Can't you get your company to pay the UKP 1.99? ;P
10:09
Nope.
@JourneymanGeek So type it in by hand paw and then sue them for RSI :)
Anyway I think barcode scanner does CSV. I'll try it... Quietly tomorrow...
@DavidPostill that is what we're doing
This is me being lazy.
And doing it solo sucks. We did more than 8x the work with 2 people.
Walked 5k at work today again
@PotatoCat Nice. But probably a hoax
@JourneymanGeek does your roomie miss you while you are at work?
@Burgi yes
I get quite the welcome

apparently they are a pest in florida and carry a form of menigitis
just came across this old article
Never saw one when I lived down in the Keys, Delray, Ft lauderdale and Orlando.
arstechnica.co.uk/security/2016/06/… @ThatBrazilianGuy any of your boxes on there for sale? ;)
:(
Then again, I tend to stay inside a lot, that's probably why.
Cool
the turtles or the snails?
I saw turtles
Just not snails =\
they have a hotline
Miami is like a 30 minute drive from Ft Lauderdale :/ I guess I just had bad luck.
for a snail (even a big one) 30 miles is like you walking to russia
lmfao, good point.
I saw some pretty huge grasshoppers in florida though.
Literally almost foot sized
Have some pictures on my phone of some too.

@Burgi Tread carefully IRL? or on chat?
@Rahul2001 IRL I believe
You been naughty in chat? :D

Q: What product does this logo belong to

zubaI see it on many web pages. Googling didn't help.

@Burgi I always do, ever since this
13:21
It's not, but it is answered lol
True lol
lol @ rahul2001's comment
@Bob Yeah that's what tends to happen when I get banned.
@GuitarShoeDave you shouldn't have answered it...
Bob
Bob
@PotatoCat :(
@PotatoCat How long did you get banned for?
13:24
@PotatoCat er dude(ette). I did not suspend your main account AFAIK
@JourneymanGeek: Im debating whether or not it should be classified as spam material by how the question was crafted.
@GuitarShoeDave Nah, not spam
Although not expected from a user with 100+ rep
> In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.
True dat
@Bob Good for wasting power, sure!
@JourneymanGeek I was suspended by Nathan before you got here, hence why I had to use a sock to use the "send bitchy message to mods" button.
Bob
Bob
13:28
@PotatoCat Even better - power = powerful!
ah, chat suspension
Ironically, the main-site suspension on the sock didn't stop me being able to access chat with the sock -_-
@PotatoCat That was very much a principle of the thing suspension
@ThatBrazilianGuy Probably still faster than a 940M! :-P
or a racoon?
(concious or otherwise)
13:32
@GuitarShoeDave He is arguing now :/
Yeah, i doubt that icon is trademarked / copyrighted
@Rahul2001 didn't you link that a few hours back?
Yes. 12:29
Oh, I did? The URL was still in my text area, so I thought the message hadn't got sent
Sorry
Just came back to this PC
13:36
Arh for UEFI programs (NOT A BIOS) with a version numbver starting with B I O S.
no worries, just checking if I was senile.
You could still be.
That happens early with dogs compared to human years.
On a same note: I just realised that my cat is 6.5 years old.
SHe is already at a third of her natural life and about to move to serior food.
And mom (on the phone) just mentioned this girl she spoke with.... 64 years old
I guess someone 10 years younger might be a girl in your age, but still. 64...
must have been a tortoise.
> My hotel spent thousands on 25 pin iPhone docks just before Apple switched to lighting ports. A few months ago they finally retrofitted them all with these:
LMAO
"The distance between the headphone jack and the lightning port varies between the 6s, 6s plus, and SE, so this wouldn't have even worked for all of the iPhones before the 7 anyway, right?"
13:41
Uhm, why provice that kind of stuff? If someone want music shouldn't they bring their own?
@Hennes Hotels usually have music systems
Maybe that is just me. A hotel is a place where you go to, shower, change to pyjama's. Sleep.
Then get up and leave.
I do not go to foreign countries just so I can hang around in hotel rooms.
Oh. I guess I never noticed them
Though I also ignore their TV sets, mini bars etc etc.
@Hennes What if you want to listen to music while taking a shower/sleeping/changing clothes?
Why would anyone do that?
Esp. when sleeping. It would keep me awake while I followed the song text.
@Hennes Humans are weird
13:46
Maybe it is just me, on two counts:
1) Vacation is 3-7 days where I want to do a lot. This does not include staying in an hotel room. I just want a clean bed, my own shower/toilet. And if possible working Internet (preferred wired but wireless will do in a pinch) and a water boiler tso I can make coffee.
No TV is a nice extra. PLease use that space for somethign I want. Ditto music, airco etc etc.
2) I usually do not have music on at home. When I do I sit in a chair to which the speakers are balanced and I listen to the music.
Background music/TV is tiring for me.

Cat vs. Disk drive: i.imgur.com/U0FYldv.gif (WARNING: LARGE GIF)
Where is the disc drive? Below the CDROM ?
my phone plays music
@Hennes Some people go there to meet prostitutes, you know?
13:48
it even contains a speaker!
I use an MP3 player for listing to audio books.
Normal USB mass storage device (no special drivers needed). A whopping 2GB storage, which is enough for multiple books.
and only Eur 15 :)
@Hennes Disk Drive == CDROM
Da VInci's Devils is awesome!
diskdrive is 160KB, or 180KB, or 320KB, or a whopping 360KB (still need one of those for my XT).
Except for the dirty scenes

@GuitarShoeDave It's some domain parking clone-a-site's default logo it seems
yeah i just figured it out
Im actually updating my post
roar
@bwDraco Angry roar or happy roar or sad roar?
14:05
@Rahul2001 Bluetooth audio for anything built in the last ten years
I was going to say that about the link, it's a parked site, haha
@PotatoCat Air transmission for anything older? ;)
Wait, windows supports transferring files using IR?
> domain parking clone-a-site
lol
@Rahul2001 Everything that had IR did, until IR died
@Rahul2001 Damn large GIF still hasn't loaded
@PotatoCat It'll be worth it :)
I remember these ancient robotics kits we used to use used IR to transfer programs
14:10
I recently (1 or 2 years ago) bought and USB-IR receiver.
Cost me one (1) full eurp, including battery and came with an IR remote control
Plug in, press power button. PC (windows) shuts down.
Fun for pranks
@Rahul2001 he shoulda used the eject command :(
@JourneymanGeek I love it!

A: What product does this logo belong to

Guitar Shoe DaveGood point in comments below.. I've updated my comment. Its definately a logo for parked sites domains that recently expired. I was able to confirm this using internet archive by looking at the prior time when the domain was last updated within the whois database for the glassdoor.com domain......

@PotatoCat ^
@GuitarShoeDave I actually remembered that it was a logo I'd seen on parked domains, but I rekoned that you knew better
Thankfully i was able to prove it. Ha ha =)
14:24

imma tempted to delete that
That's fine, no hard feelings if you delete anything.
@GuitarShoeDave You can still edit it
23 hours ago, by Hennes
No, why throw money at it?
lol
14:37
@Hennes DuckDuckGo, no 2 :P
Isn't it funny how much time gets spent on a question that shouldn't even be on the site ?! :D
I'm for closing stuff like that ASAP ;p
14:59
hmmmmmm
I have a keyboard shortcut with turns off my keyboard leds, locks my screen
I'd also like it to pause any playing youtube vids.... difficult
