@Bob @allquicatic ended up picking up a Razer man o war. Reviews later when I get home....

Bob
o.O

Loaded bot never ran

@allquicatic I think we forgot something :P

also it's nice to know the REPL kinda-sorta works
@allquicatic well, I forgot to check it too :P

Victorian we?

@JourneymanGeek Ah. Finally figured out exactly who your roomie is am I slow, or what?) ;P

Bob
7:10 AM
@JourneymanGeek 3 month rule? :P

fixed; running apache2 on 127.0.0.1:80 mapped to /home/sean/dev/SO-ChatBot
ran cron.sh

@Bob been debating a headset for aaaaaaggggeeedss.

@allquicatic I awoke on Tue, 16 Aug 2016 07:11:03 GMT (that's about 5 seconds ago), haven't done anything yet!

@DavidPostill only slightly. I do that cause @allquicatic was under the impression I had arthritis.

also, the old domain has been remapped in DNS to the new IP, so eventually you can just SSH to the new box, tell your SSH client not to worry that the key has changed, and resume as you were

So roomie is ooc dog
Human is ooc me :p

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Yea, but you sure picked a model quick :P
Is it shiny?
@allquicatic \o/

7:13 AM
Quite. Good reviews....

Bob
@allquicatic Is he fully up-to-date?

@Bob "he"?
the bot code and phantomjs binary are identical to what they were before
the only thing that's been updated is the underlying OS

50mm drivers, on headset controls, wireless dongle. Also quite literally exactly under budget.

but it's beta so no migration (™)

@allquicatic hmmmmm. Kinda sorta. Link?

Q: Are there any 802.11n 5GHz PCI wireless adapters with working drivers for windows 10?

user3490I'm looking for a wifi adapter that ticks the following boxes: Support for Windows 10 (or if not support then at least a driver that actually works on Windows 10) Fits in a PCI slot (not PCIe) Can use the 5GHz wifi band Does anything like that exist? I'm currently using an ancient TL-WN851N w...

Comment it's a better fit there. ?
Maaaaybe suggest he flag it?

you laugh "hahahahaa does he really mean PCI?" but then you realize that TP-Link made an 802.11n card for PCI that actually works, and the PCI bus has a maximum throughput (on "PCI 64-bit 66 MHz") of ~0.5 GBytes/s whereas realistic speeds on 802.11n would be less than ~0.3 MBits/s
300 MBits/s isn't all that terribly much to a 0.5 GBytes/s bus, I guess

Bob
7:25 AM
@allquicatic I meant the localstorage

@Bob the localstorage lost maybe an hour of old server operation time between the time I took the snapshot and the time it went offline
so it's effectively up to date

Cause I would totally move it if the op flagged and abuse my number 1 user soft power :p

Bob
@allquicatic Ah, that's fine. I just wasn't sure if I should restore the last exported backup.

I did zfs snapshot on all my ZFS filesystems on my old server; zfs sended (er, zfs sent?) them to the new server, zfs receive'ed on the new server over SSH, then copied over files
Cavil continued to operate for a little while in chat after the snapshot while OVH was processing my support ticket
(to shut down the old box)

morning

Bob
7:28 AM
@JourneymanGeek I mean, if you're listing specs... that fits just about every 'gaming headset' in that price range.
Logitech. Corsair. <insert brand here>

it turns out that a huge portion of my data is extremely compressible with lz4 and I didn't have lz4 enabled for much of the original file footprint of my old server (I only turned it on retroactively long after I had set everything up)
a ~250 GB ZFS filesystem now occupies only 86 GB on the new box

Bob
Too bad you can't really do a subjective comparison :P

all data intact

Bob
@allquicatic Nice.
I can't check mine right now... don't have my main key on me.
(I have a separate one at work - my main private key never goes on a computer I don't fully own/control.)

@Bob fine. It's shiny. :p

Bob
7:29 AM
lol

Hey guys, am I allowed to laugh at this? Or is my browser just being dumb? :/

morning @Burgi and everyone else - both humanoid and those from different taxonomies ;P

Guy posts blog about how WebKit is insecure. https on his site is broken.
oh, it's just SHA-1
meh.
@Bob smart! :)

@allquicatic I get secure connection from Firefox ...

@DavidPostill yeah because apparently Firefox isn't all that anal about SHA-1 (yet?).

7:32 AM
@allquicatic yes.

Yet seems to be correct:

In our previous blog post about phasing out certificates with SHA-1 based signature algorithms, we said that we planned to take a few actions with regard to SHA-1 certificates:

Add a security warning to the Web Console to remind developers that they should not be using a SHA-1 based certificates
Show the “Untrusted Connection” error whenever a SHA-1 certificate issued after January 1, 2016, is encountered in Firefox
Show the “Untrusted Connection” error whenever a SHA-1 certificate is encountered in Firefox after January 1, 2017
The cert for that site was issued on "18 March 2015"
It also has a SHA-256 fingerprint ... so should be OK anyway?
@allquicatic

@Burgi scarier Chinese Halloween. With more fire.
Oo. I can't hear anything outside the apartment.

@JourneymanGeek Maybe they suddenly realised it was a day to soon? ;P "2016 date August 17"

my sister is in china, will they be having celebrations on the mainland @JourneymanGeek?

8:29 AM
@Burgi I'm under the impression its more of a thing here and malaysia

ah ok

9:02 AM
@Ramhound Are you aware of this? meta.stackexchange.com/questions/283438/…. He's gone to meta with a (public) complaint about you ...
How are we supposed to know he's disabled anyway? And I don't see any comments making fun of him in any way ...

Dog
9:20 AM
Damn Windows 10 is smart
@DavidPostill Hahaha

9:57 AM
@DavidPostill how do you know its about RH?

10:08 AM
@Burgi I am aware of the backstory and he's outed in one of the comments.

ah ok
seems like its all been sorted?

Dog
RH is never sorted

@DavidPostill Oooh

@Burgi Just because it was dupe closed doesn't sort the underlying issue ... the OP may well have made a formal complaint. I just wanted RH to be aware of that ...

i don't have an opinion either way as i can't see the original exchange

10:19 AM
@Burgi I don't either. It looks like some comments may have been purged. Without those it is impossible to have any opinions ...
Having said that the deleted answer is a wall of text. If I had seen it I would have at least formatted it nicely.

The comments about "go google it" and then the (subsequently added) link to http://hp.support.com/ claiming it is "hp support website" are spot on.

I don't see any references to disabilities from either side in the comments that remain on the answer.
In fact adding that link to http://hp.support.com/ looks spammish - it is one of those "Call 1-800-PC-Support (1-800-727-8776)" sites that used to spam SU regularly.

"Computer not working properly? Diagnose and Repair" ... "$129.99 one-time fee" rings alarm bells with me.

interesting

Of course there is nothing on that site to indicate they would even know the answer to the original question "Better performance after bios update?" ...

guys. I'll deal with it as soon as I'm free

speaking of being free, did you see that they are making a new "are you being served?"?

@Burgi Yeah. I'm not into camp comedy shows ;P
The only comedy shows I ever liked were Fawlty Towers and Monty Python. I guess I have warped sense of humour ...

10:38 AM
@DavidPostill thanks for the heads up

lol. look likes @Ferrybig has a keyword matcher bot on the work "camp" in chatrooms. "My site: file://c:/camp/index.html. (Joke)" as he just checked in :)

@DavidPostill The description is usually to small to put anything usefull in it, so I added the joke

@Ferrybig But that doesn't explain how you appeared right after I used the word "camp" ;)

He can make a formal complaint. I stand by my feedback. Using that particular website as a link on superuaer isn't acceptable, classic MS Support Center, scam

@Ramhound If I'd found something, this would have ended with a suspension on your part. At this point, I'll let the CMs handle it. I really do think you and comments just don't mix, no matter your intentions.

10:51 AM
Trust me I understand. It seems I can't even let auto generated comments exist without getting complaints.
Which was the only thing I originally said, he wanted more information, if I had not explained he would have reported that

@Ramhound you're like the user I spend the most time on individually ;p

@Ramhound look you are getting special treatment! ;)

I have a sink with a nut that's somehow corroded so far that we can't get it off. We've tried everything sort of explosives....

What really erks me is the fact all my life I have had to work on my own speech problems, most of my problems in writing are because of those problems I addressed, so claiming I am mocking anyone because of their disability is over the top.

Bob
@Dog Hm?
@JourneymanGeek Wrench + hammer + penetrating oil. Or a strap wrench if it's a smooth one.

Growk being the bastard child of growl and grok. Or just a typo, depending on how you look at it

@Ramhound i have often wondered why you come across as ultra grumpy on SU. are you grumpy IRL?

@Bob weird, phone highlighted the wrong reply to message

@Burgi I am actually a really happy person. Everyone who actually knows me, tells me that, nearly nothing directed at me actually effects me. Long been the type of person that people attempted to bring down, mocked, so I know how that feels. I am just a low context communicator. So it's hard for me to make fluffy pink unicorn statements.
people either troll me or actually get offended by comments generated by the system, since I am low context, I have trouble identifying those trolls
if I take it serious, I expect everyone else to take it serious, my brain has a hard time processing the idea somebody might not be serious
hence I read I statement, see the low context meaning, it's how my brain is wired.

interesting

Anyways, time for work, won't be around for 12+ hours. I can identify a good joke but subtle? jokes are harder for me

i'll bear it in mind when you seem overly brusque towards me
behaviour modification
if me adapting doesn't work we can always try electroshock treatment on you ;)

11:37 AM
That is usually only tried on dogs. (shock collars)

@JourneymanGeek have you tried cutting it off with a dremel tool?

Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 12:3 that none can say “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Spirit. The point is not that our mouths cannot form these syllables unless there is some kind of divine intervention – but rather that this confession is a radical statement of our priorities. You see, in the Roman Empire, one could be made to regularly confess “Caesar is Lord,” and to fail to do so would death. Even our Lord, Jesus Christ, did not provoke Caesar. Rather, he said, “Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s, and render unto the Lord that which is the L …

@JourneymanGeek Oh. I wasn't aware of that :/ Apologies for saying the search results were amusing ...

You wouldn't have known. I think I came across that as a mod.

can the post still be amusing even if the OP has died?
or am i on tricky ground with that?

It could. Now I'm wondering if I should even have mentioned that

The post is serious but is written in an amusing and very clever way would have been a better way to describe it - I made the mistake of generalising some google search results ... I had no intention of offending anyone for their religious beliefs ...

Q: Official No Man's Sky Database

BurgiIs there a public facing database/website of all the discovered systems and planets in No Man's Sky? I would like to share some of my finds with friends outside of the game. If not do Hello Games provide a public API to their servers so I could possibly make something that would fit my needs?

Please note that I never said this person was your known relative, but that you were nominated by me and be informed that this will be done in accordance with the Inheritance Laws of Switzerland by obtaining the Court validation paper as well as a Letter of Administration.

We have the responsibility to do this for without this process, the inheritance would be taking over by the Crown Court and released to the Government c

@Hennes Hm... I can work with that

2:31 PM
the RAF website is awful
i just want a high res logo!
ok so... everything on a 192.168.x.x subnet is a LAN address, right?

Depend on what you mean by LAN
192.168.0.0/16 is an RFC1918 range
If you have two building and fibre between them you could assign 192.168.0.1 to one router and 192.168.0.2 to a router in another building. That would make it a WAN address.

my minion found a website we are hosting that is looking for a database in the local range
which we can't access
shrug

Bob
@Burgi LAN implies same subnet as your current machine/IP. You need to figure out which subnet your current machine is on first.
@Hennes Really, LAN doesn't even correspond to anything physical. I can have two LANs contained entirely within one machine (VMs, etc.)
Heck, I can have two LANs amongst interfaces on a single OS.
Maybe even on the single interface, depending on OS.

@allquicatic Nice timing? :P

Yeah. I t is sort of fuzzy. Not as fuzzy as cloud, but not perfectly defined.

Dutch
Chrome tells you if you click the arrow next to the Nope button on the auto-translate pop-up thingy

@Hennes are you dutch?

Dutch, but I assumed google translate would work.

It kinda did...

It turns into somewhat broken English, but it's understandable

4:31 PM
Scammer called. Got a person on the line which pretended to fall for it.
Desktop got taken over by VNC **with** an upload files option.
'Victim' uploaded a picture of his creditcard... at least, that was what the scammer were told

> The helpdesk assistant says that nothing happens when he tries to open the photo nations. On the background of the system files already encrypted. Kwiatkowski says that sometimes there are problems when you try it on the Mac, but the crook replied that he works with Windows. He then suggests that the picture is corrupt because of the Zeus infection.

I'd love to see if it actually worked, and if the scammers' network of PCs were just base Windows installs, or if they were just images that loads from a server that wiped their hard drives on every reboot anyways

I wouldn't be surprised if they were just thin clients that only booted from network
But it would be amazing if it took down the entire scam operation
Hey, does anyone here have access to Project Sauron? :p

@Hennes Here is the original blog article in English :)

Dog
@allquicatic Sure, if you convince Apple to build 17" Macbook Pro's again

4:49 PM
hi

Hi!

@Dog do you think the 1060 would work with any of their existing form factors?
(current, not past)

Dog
@allquicatic Maybe the 15" pro, if they sacrificed noise
It's a 100w card after all, coupled with a 45w processor, yes you can deal with it within a 15" chassis but it's gonna be noisy

Microsoft, at least, doesn't seem to give a shit about noise; all of the Surface Pros, especially the ones with a dGPU, are ridiculously loud
hopeful that Apple will treat noise similarly -- let people use noise cancelling headphones if they want, lol

5:55 PM
Eff that! I hate the noise from my laptops

@CanadianLuke I like the noise, remind me of America and FREEDOM!!!!!!

My server makes no noise at home, cause it doesn't have any fans, just passive cooling. My HTPC has no fans, and runs on an SSD
> Red white and blue are the colours of freedom... Unless they're in your rear view mirror

@Bob Not surprised.
May 7 at 23:32, by bwDraco
GTX 1070 is rated for a mere 150 W, which is right at the MXM power limit. We're talking about better than TITAN X performance within a laptop power envelope!
May 7 at 5:04, by bwDraco
At 180 W for 1.6+ GHz, they could ease off on the clocks just slightly and deliver more than current desktop power within laptop power envelopes.

@bwDraco heh, funny looking back on old references to "Titan X" before the announcement of the new Titan X (or as reviewers love to call it, the "Titan XP")
because if we're talking about the latest Titan X, then no, it won't be faster :P

yup.
That this sort of power is possible on mobile platforms shows how far we've come 😇

> You have a knack for trading the British Pound against the Japanese Yen. You have a killer hot sauce recipe, and it’s in distribution worldwide. You just made partner at your father-in-law’s firm. Whatever the case, you’re in that elite group that doesn’t really worry about money. You have the beach house, the Bentley, and the Bulgari. And now Nvidia has a graphics card for your gaming PC: the Titan X.
Back to work!

I love knowing how to use DISM! I'm able to get the drivers for all the newer laptops we're purchasing with Windows 10 to install with Windows 7, not needing to do updates after (slip streaming SP1 and the convenience roll up)... Next thing you know, I'll actually customize the WIM to do most of my work for me too!

The whole Windows deployment system is pretty neat
MDT is super awesome if you need to image a lot of computers with a lot of customization

It's not so much the customization that get me, it's that we don't use Windows Servers.
I have an answer file that I'll use to SysPrep the system, and I install the software that wouldn't be compatible with MDT anyways... Then we capture the image and deploy with FOG
I'd love to learn MDT properly, but we don't have infrastructure to do so (licensing, anyways)
Grr... Low disk space... BRB

7:27 PM
@Boris_yo dont. prefer not to use scanner software to make adjustments IF your going to be processing it in a photo program anyways. None of the flatbed or hand scanners adjust the actual light or sensitivy of the light grabbers or anything, it is always processed in software after the scan is done. If your already processing it, it is better to process it only 1 time, in the photo program and grab as raw as you can off the scanner.

7:53 PM
Consistent branding, desktop or mobile.
Mobile parts are designed to perform within 10% of the desktop parts.
That means no more confusion when comparing, say, a GTX 770 and GTX 780M (the 770 is slightly faster).
A properly-designed cooling system will allow a laptop GTX 1080 to perform identically to the desktop part.
This also marks the first time laptop GPUs are allowed to ship overclocked.
