I find that my desktop is primarily CPU bound at this point. AM3 chipset, so I can't really upgrade any further, either.

But aside from the CPU, it's still really good.

CPU is a pain to upgrade if you have to swap out the motherboard though. I kinda don't want to have to, so I might just leave it.

My motherboard has a Cooler Master V8 strapped to it. I'm not going to pull the thing apart unless I really have to. So I think it's in its final configuration.

@BenRichards if you have an nvidia GPU, it's probably fine -- the game is optimized heavily for any recentish Nvidia card and probably runs fine on a 7-series even

but my two AMD Tahiti GPUs chug along like it's Star Citizen 3 straight out of 2025

@Bob to get Ubuntu 14.04 booting automatically on my server (XFS root, UEFI install), I had to set the server to boot to the UEFI shell, and then write a 2-line .ns script (not much different from a Windows batch script, really...) to boot the Ubuntu Linux kernel's EFIStub. Grub simply refused to boot no matter what I did

again the fucking Supermicro firmware, probably, but that's life with a cheap, low-quality motherboard vendor with only the second generation of UEFI-supporting server mainboards.

the real good news is, I have it automatically mounting ZFS on boot, and the networking comes up on boot, so now I just have to configure lxd and copy stuff over etc

Two things to try, then. Install one of the shims linked above, or try changing your user agent to the Chrome one (yes, they do do user agent sniffing. see my earlier rant about their broken streetview embedded implementation on ff that magically works if you fake the UA)
