There's a reasonable chance I might have killed off the drive of impending doom
while experimenting with a e-sata bracket
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek o.O
@Bob: Its not detected by the system, I'll try it on my desktop tommorrow
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek I'm more wondering how experimenting with eSATA could damage it :P
@Bob: well, maybe it didn't like being hotplugged into power?
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek Most SATA drives should be fine with that?
14:42
or something else is wrong
hence reasonable chance
damned zombie drive will likely spin up happily when I plug it into my desktop

A laptop charger question would be in topic here, so I think this is a valid question. — BrianAdkins 1 min ago
I really want to answer the question.
And I'm generally in favour of keeping as many questions as possible.
But it's a rather big stretch to say "laptop chargers are okay, therefore all power supplies are okay"...
@JourneymanGeek what were you doing with an iphone again?
sister in law's phone. Was synced with itunes on an older incarnation of the shared PC, after the reinstall, its orphaned. If I synced it with the new incarnation of said PC... it'll apparently wipe out all the music on it
I have the apps and photos backed up
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek yayzorz!

you could always run a cable from the headphone to a line in :P

Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek can you mount it as an MTP device?
Or you could always try something like this: mgtek.com/dopisp
(run in a VM if you don't trust it :P)
> up to iOS 4
Heh.
@JourneymanGeek I'm actually considering a moto g, grey import for $185 :P

@allquixotic I got that netgear n900, am using its NAS. But an issue is there have been times where i've clicked 'safely remove USB device' in the web interface, and it has said "The device cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later." And i've had to 'end task' explorer.exe to one a comp to be able to get a successful response when clicking "safely remove USB device' on the web interface of the N900 NAS router. I notice that if I do \\readyshare and double click
usb_storage so as to get a directory listing, then it locks it. I can click back or close the window, then it unlocks it i.e. I can then safely remove device at the web interface.
But I wonder if sometimes the computer malfunctions and keeps the lock on it even when i've closed the explorer window
Is there a way that I could view from the comp i'm on, what process if any, has a read on the NAS device?

user asking about how to set up SSD + HDD correctly:

Q: What is the proper use setup for an SSD?

user89We had our new computers at work pre-built, as none of us were computer experts. We didn't notice this today, but Win7 came installed on the SSD - i.e. the SSD was C:\ drive. So, when we installed programs or ran programming scripts, everything was happing on the SSD! I started to run out of m...

Q: I want to ditch my SSD/HDD setup. What's the easiest way to get everything from my SSD, onto my HDD?

user89I currently have an SSD, and an HDD set up on my computer, but I cannot care enough for the management issues. Is there a simple way to transfer all the files from the SSD, onto the HDD, including boot information, etc., so that my computer only uses the HDD, even to start up? In other words, a...

I've run into a problem while experimenting.

1) I deleted my EFI partition while installing Ubuntu. I had Windows 8.1 pre-installed.
2) I installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
3) Ubuntu runs fine. But there are no files of Windows on the EFI partition.
4) I need now to have Windows boot files in the EFI partition again.
What do I do?
23:16
@Boris_yo because it was an entirely useless suggestion and things needed to be set on fire.
@RifazNahiyan: You should have backed up before you did anything
@JourneymanGeek, didn't have the pendrive while performing that. :(
