"on macs"
this is my smug, windows running, hipster browsing face. Which looks about the same since this is the face of an early model robot dog.

1:03 AM
@Bob new daiso cheapie
Looks/feels like a slimmer/cartridged varsity

1:32 AM
What's your experience with these cheap fountain pens? I've never been fond of these cheapies...

@bwDraco pretty good
never had leaking, and I just throw them into my bag
also its hilarious to lend to people
its either "oooh" or "WHAT THE HECK IS THIS? ARE YOU DOING ME A BAMBOOZLE?"

@Aibobot lol
Will use an older processor (Apple A10 Fusion), but seriously, iPod Touch in 2019?

1:55 AM
sure
There's a few things. Apple kinda needs to sell things with OLED screens, there's still a market for PMPs and it might be useful if you wanted to develop for iphones without getting an iphone

2:49 AM
@DavidPostill congrats. Apparently my 4th SU births was a couple months ago, I didn't really notice.
Birthday*

Bob
5:21 AM
@JourneymanGeek I might've seen that around recently-ish o.O

@Bob bit of a smaller but thicker nib
actually reminds me a lot of those noodler platinum preppies
the feed is that finny pilot style one

Q: Text indentation via Tab-key in the Windows Google Chrome browser without using extensions or a Numpad?

Lorenz Lo SauerWhen trying to indent a block of text in an input textfield, for instance to emphasize Markdown code-blocks, the Tab key is already bound to a different action (switching to the next input element). What is a straightforward way to overcome this issue without using extensions? I found these two...

lol

> Getting Windows ready
Don't turn off your computer
All I did was start up this VM, do nothing, then decide to power it off
Good grief Charlie Brown
Is it so hard to show an actual honest-to-goodness progress bar?
It's been doing this for over half an hour
And I've no idea if it's nearly done, or only getting started

10:05 AM
indeed @bertieb even if i gave you a 'Updating <incomprehensible file name> you'd at least know it's still doing something

10:32 AM
roar
I know it's kinda early for me today... but was catching up on The New York Times and something dawned upon me.
I was thinking about the proliferation of mandatory arbitration clauses in contracts everywhere and why businesses are finding it a necessity... and I just realized something: business insurance premiums can and will be impacted by stuff like this.
Nearly every nontrivially-sized company has some form of business insurance, and policies for larger businesses are highly customized. Every aspect of your business is going to be scrutinized by your insurer, down to your employment and customer contracts.
This is in fact one of the reasons companies are so risk-averse these days. It's not just staying out of trouble. It's something that directly impacts your profits even if you never get sued.

@djsmiley2k complete with inaccurate loading bar
@bertieb the correct way is to grab a steaming mug of tea, and say "IS IT DONE YYYEEETTTT"
until its done, the tea is done, or someone hits you over the head to shut you up

There is so much about running a business that most of us non-businessmen don't understand, and I gave this whole arbitration issue—and business CYA practices in general—a lot of thought. It finally made sense to me.

i prefer to spend my time thinking about exotic physics but its always good to increase knowledge

t
tea?

lol

10:51 AM
@Aibobot @djsmiley2k Hah! I ended up pausing the VM and saving the state
Could not be arsed waiting for 1 to 1000 minutes

lol

TL;DR: Businesses are risk-averse partly because risk costs them money, even if they never get sued, in the form of higher insurance premiums.

@bertieb pfft
My alternative is going to sleep

11:13 AM
You cannot make Tea without T. It would be EA. And then they charge you for the sugar... you want a lootbox with that?

This is how being able to see the other side of the story is valuable. You can't simply say "ban mandatory arbitration clauses!" without understanding why they exist in the first place.

11:28 AM
@JohnDoea What do you mean by reply? Are you trying to comment or add an answer? What goes wrong?

11:46 AM
@JourneymanGeek I needed to reboot in my Windows install to stream a game
Waiting, like failure, was not an option :D

Bob
11:58 AM
@bertieb there's a setting for showing detailed status info, iirc

@Bob :o
I did a tiny bit of searching while waiting but couldn't find much

@Bob Aha, cheers!
Will give that a try
I mean, once the non-verbose <whatever its doing> is done

2 hours later…
1:31 PM
Anyone else test it out yet?
I can't seem to move the window without grabbing a little spot just to the left of the minimize button.

2:04 PM
@DavidPostill I tried to comment on the question itself, but I cannot because the bounty I gave took me too much rep points and now I have less than 50...

user141350
David, for example, I need to reply on Harry MC's answer there but I cannot...

...welp. On most HP laptops that use barrel charge connectors (whether 7.4mm as used on older systems or 4.5mm on current machines), there's an ID pin in addition to the power contact, used to determine, among other things, power adapter capacity. If you insert the connector too slowly or don't push it all the way in, it'll power the laptop but it won't charge the battery because it can't identify the charger.
Now HP Support Assistant thinks my battery has failed.
(which clears up after you unplug the laptop or plug it in normally)

@JohnDoea Ah. A rep issue.
@JohnDoea What did want to ask? We can post a comment on your behalf.

4:31 PM
Thanks @DavidPostill I wanted to ask how can a user of the script ensure that when clicking F12 (when using a browser) there won't be a conflict with the Developer-tool.

user141350
If I understand the answer correctly, it makes clicking F12 adding a tabulation character. But what if the user uses a browser and then there is a conflict with opening the Dev Tool, that's what I am trying to understand.

@JohnDoea F12 is only an example. You can replace it by some other unused key combination.

5:33 PM
@DavidPostill I'm hearingf the storms are getting started there? is it true?
i'm sat here waiting, we've hada slight piddling of rain and nothing more.

6:31 PM
@MichaelFrank I haven't tried it yet. Let us know how it is! I use PS, CMD and Bash all in separate windows right now on my Windows PC at work

7:12 PM
@CanadianLuke It's fairly... rough.

Alpha-rough? Beta-rough? Or Microsoft-rough?

You can't move the window unless you grab a small section near the left of the minimize button, even though there's plenty of space you could drag it around with.
The third tab I opened only showed half the actual tab until I closed one of the other two.
Just weird little UI things like that.

Submit issues?

It doesn't seem to respect "theme" settings.
Yea, I probably will, I just had 5 minutes to play with it last night before bed.

At least their trying something, finally

7:35 PM
@djsmiley2k Yellow warning for North West. Nothing yet.

wow nothing happening, we've been lied to :D
i'm lol'ing how the media is reporting a timeline of storms that's getting longer and longer
first story i saw was 32 hours of storms
latest I think I saw is 60 hours

@djsmiley2k The metoffice warning is for tomorrow.

Originally it was for saturday

8:08 PM
@CanadianLuke Oh yea, I'll definitely make use of it.

8:31 PM
> The minimum installation size, if you just install the Visual Studio Core Editor, is 600MB. And if you select everything to install, the max installation size is 82.58GB.
@CanadianLuke Looks like some of the issues I noticed are already on the github issues register.

3 hours later…
11:21 PM
@djsmiley2k then 60 days and nights?

11:49 PM
