Wanted to get a complete list of passwords from your Firefox profile? nirsoft.net/utils/passwordfox.html
(many AV programs will treat this as a virus due to its nature; this is a perfectly legit tool)

@MichaelFrank Wait what, your buses don't have sofas? What kind of bus doesn't?

Bob
12:30 AM
@allquixotic didn't you get the win8 challenge one?

Ave
yells at riot for using "brasileiro" as a language

Bob
@bwDraco ...is there any particular reason?

@Ave Espanol brasiliero?
Cc @ThatBrazilianGuy

Aye, caramba!
@Ave Si, per supesto! El correcto es "brasileño", ¿no?

Ave
12:36 AM
I'm hurt

@Ave Que pasó?

Ave
I'm not on US international I can't type spanish or ptbr properly

Can't you just change the logic layout? Or you mean your keyboard doesn't have the physical keys?

Ave
I touch type a lot of different layouts, so lack of text on keys doesn't matter.

Then what?

Ave
12:47 AM
But yeah, I don't even know how to type the right chars

You just have to type á é í ó ú à ã ô ç ü
Oh no wait they killed the last one, poor ü.
(true story)

Ave
I know yeah

No ü?

@JourneymanGeek no two-dots-thing-above-u actually
If I try to type it I get a "
Same unicode and all.

Q: How to know you've outgrown your equipment?

dataI have only started shooting recently, as a hobby. I use Canon EOS M100. I use a EF to EF-M adapter to use EF 50mm f/1.2L USM. The camera seems to have trouble focusing and light metering (with auto ISO overexposing the image a lot). The red AF assist light seems to be hitting the lens. Should ...

@bwDraco ^

Choice of equipment honestly boils down to your intended application. For me, as a sports photographer, I have some very specific requirements for the job. If you're doing photography as an art, the requirements are much more limited.

you applied for any jobs this week?

1:56 AM
What if you're doing photography as a Russian spy?

@CircusCat paper and pencil?

2:11 AM
Went for a haircut earlier, he decided my eyebrows need a trim... o.o Never had that before!

@CircusCat ONLY FINEST SOVIET MICROCAMERA! BLESSED BY COMRADE SECRETARY GENERAL OF PARTY HIMSELF!

2:35 AM
@Bob no

Bob
o.O
@allquixotic you qualified, right?

I have a Win8 SU t-shirt.

2:53 AM
@Bob no
I didn't care about Windows 8 or the craze about asking questions about it at the time
and it turned out to be a really irrelevant release that didn't last long at all, so I was on the right side of history

@allquixotic I mostly answered ;p

Bob
@allquixotic but... swag! :P

I finally ran out of CFL bulbs and went looking for some LEDs. Is it me, or are 6500K bulbs rather uncommon?

3:32 AM
@allquixotic how do I use that "ILO/KVM"... thing? Does it being "KVM" means I can use virt-manager to manage it?

naw
here its a keyboard/video/mouse over IP setup
you typically use a java thing on a website for it

@ThatBrazilianGuy no, it's not that kind of KVM
I'm working on it btw, it's because I chose zstd compression
In the /etc/fstab of installed ubuntu bionic system I specified compress=zstd for the btrfs root filesytem After runing 'sudo btrfs filesystem defragment -r -czstd /' the system booted to a grub shell. I could boot again by running 'sudo btrfs filesystem defragment -r -clzo /' and specifying compress=lzo in the /etc/fstab. There is also a new bug in the btrfs tools: btrfs does recognize the option '-clzo' but not '-c lzo'.
grub2 (Ubuntu)
Undecided / Confirmed

It asks me to use IE... or Java... or both.

(its actually quite cool)

@ThatBrazilianGuy I'm using IE :P
Java has too many security barriers to successfully start Java applets anymore

3:34 AM
I have Linux both at work and at home.

there's literally a little arm processor with a odd little specific video card

@JourneymanGeek Matrox IIRC, and it has its own public IP
while being "cool" they have a terrible attack surface and are historically quite vulnerable (and poorly maintained with fixes)

@allquixotic the ones I remember were a odd little company
not matrox

and this one is extremely old, so it has no compatibility updates to modern stuff like html5

and yes, and sometimes only work with specific versions of java

3:35 AM
@JourneymanGeek Huh? "a little arm processor with a odd little specific video card"? Are we talking about the same thing? Isn't it a management software for remote access?

@ThatBrazilianGuy its hardware for full remote access to physical hardware right down to the bios

@ThatBrazilianGuy a KVM-over-IP solution is literally a computer attached to your computer
it's a "yo dawg" computer

yo dawg
Snap.

On most dedis you can literally mount an ISO over your browser and boot into it
@MichaelFrank Woof

you login to the KVM-over-IP (which has its own public IP and processor and RAM and storage) and it acts as a sort of physical layer remote desktop to the server
@JourneymanGeek that's how I'm having to fix this now

3:36 AM
So is @allq's server a literal bare metal server?

@ThatBrazilianGuy yup

@ThatBrazilianGuy yes

mine is too, but dosen't have that, so I need to use their website. My old one has that tho

wow? why is that unusual?

3:37 AM
@allquixotic I think he's just not played with the cool toys

and this one only costs $200/year (I forgot, that's like $1000/second in Brazil)

@JourneymanGeek That.

Only when it crosses customs

Have to go, bye good night

> Launchpad Janitor does not use Launchpad.
Wat.
https://launchpad.net/~janitor says "Launchpad Janitor does not use Launchpad." If it doesn't use Launchpad, why does it have an account on Launchpad solely to declare that it does not use Launchpad? ~janitor is considered invalid by Lp vocabularies so it we cannot use it in searches. We cannot search for bugs that ~janitor changes.
Launchpad itself

3:55 AM
@allquixotic btrfs? :P

Is that butter, or better?

Bob
(still waiting for zstd on zfs, but eh, keeping most on lz4 for now. maybe on that huge dataset... github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/issues/6247)

4:09 AM
@Bob ya
@Bob zstd on zfs will be nice; I'm looking forward to the open source community further demonstrating their superiority over proprietary Oracle Solaris ZFS by adding a superior compression alg
it should go through OpenZFS first -- that way, the zstd implementation in the on-disk format (and the way it's detected and stored in metadata) is consistent from BSD, to illumos, to ZOL

Bob
@allquixotic yea, that seems to be what's happening

4:47 AM
So... I've finally had a chance to open the Docker book in earnest and start reading for real.

I love virtualization.
May 14 at 2:09, by bwDraco
I still remember being curious about operating systems when I was in high school, when virtualization opened a world of operating systems and software to explore.

Hmm...
WRT arrogance issues... It seems my self-control has not kept pace with increasing decision-making agency. This is resulting in arrogant decisions that have been increasingly dangerous over the last few weeks and months. I am finding myself doing unsafe things over my parents' orders. What should I do?
I am being given more freedom to take initiative (which, among other things, led me to finally acquire my first credit card), but at the same time, I fear that this expanded freedom is not matched with an appropriate level of control.
I can be a responsible person, and when I am able to control myself, can avoid abusing said freedom. But I've long had self-control problems, and I fear that the lack of improvement in this front can stall further growth or even cause me to get in serious trouble.

driver of this bus has a sign next to him... "driver new to this route"

that's helpful
normally you'd just never know XD

Bob
@MichaelFrank y'know, that can be read two ways... :P
@Zanna true, true... but it's also 15 mins late

@Bob it can?
@Bob well, at least you have an explanation for that hahaha

Bob
@Zanna diamonds might be formed under pressure but they're formed from...

carbon, pure carbon, the substance on which almost all life on earth is based :)
extracted from the air and transformed into biomass by the amazing process of photosynthesis, etc, etc

8:08 AM
morning

\o

morn morn
@Bob at work, we've migrated around 700 switch ports successfully without issue
about 6 have had issues
we get it in the neck about those 6.

@Bob Heh... "If you don't survive, we'll make you into a diamond!"

@Zanna o/

Bob
@djsmiley2k my stop was right after that turn, thank god
I had a nice window seat to a parked car almost getting scraped

lul
I couldn't drive a bus tbh
!!nope

@djsmiley2k That didn't make much sense. Use the !!/help command to learn more.

haha yeah I can't drive anything more sophisticated than a bicycle, so far be it from me to criticise anyone's attempt to drive something that can carry 100 people

1 hour later…

oooh new XKCD what if!

10:46 AM
@Burgi :O
i like it
ooooooooo
all of our london stores just disappeared.
and they came back
wtf why do people do that

A: Use wget to download all linked mp3 files from website

djsmiley2kI believe by default wget will stick to the current domain only. So if the files were hosted on musicforprogramming.net it'd download them. Use -D to pass a list of accepted domains: (As pointed out in the comments by Hugh Grigg, you also need --span-hosts wget -r --no-parent --accept mp3,MP3 ...

I answered, someone commented with something that needed adding, and I added it. 2 hours later a new user has basically copy/pasted my answer and got accepted with 7 upvotes?! XD

11:45 AM
@Burgi whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

11:57 AM
fun thing is that's simular to what's in the book seveneves
HAHAHAHA
Did someone remove their vote and vote for me instead?
because the 7 has become six, and I got 2 upvotes XD

Bob
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I appear to have ... lost a server?

is it the one @ThatBrazilianGuy broke?

Bob
no no, that's quix's
> Your server's network port is off
wat.

@djsmiley2k I DIDN'T BROKE IT OKAY
I performed "reboot" and it broke itself
I claim it was Schrodinger's broken until rebooted

Bob
12:02 PM
oh yea, this is the server @djsmiley2k's container's on so I can blame him :D

oh god I forgot I had that :D

😃

Anyone else here uses the SE app as a chat ping notification?

@bwDraco So what "unsafe" things have you done? Have you been copying @CircusCat?

YUP THAT'S ME

I said nufink about coal
but diamonds are really made from carbon...
nice article though, TIL

@Zanna "extracted from the air and transformed into biomass by the amazing process of photosynthesis" ===> coal
> In fact, most diamonds that have been dated are much older than Earth's first land plants
Biomass == Plants

12:09 PM
I think I was just rambling about carbon... I wasn't thinking about coal or how diamonds are made, I really have no idea about that
but if you wanna think I'm a clueless idiot, you'd be totally right, so you can totally go for that

@Zanna Well now you do :)

thanks

Welcome to my pedantic world ;)

I just didn't wanna let the nice words be spoiled for rahul
sorry I'm having a baaaaaaad day

@Zanna wait where do I come in here

12:14 PM
> A network problem seems to happen in a rack, Room 2
best description ever.

@rahuldottech someone talking about you becoming a diamond

@Zanna ah. That. For a moment I though someone was talking about making me a mod, lol

He's becoming a diamond?

oh haha

@Zanna Technicalities don't destroy the saying :-)

12:17 PM
:)

Mr Shine, him diamond.

@djsmiley2k And crazy ;)

@Burgi lol you made him delete it XD

12:24 PM
@Burgi how into wolfenstein are you?

o_O?
@JourneymanGeek is there some link there?

@JourneymanGeek i've just found the bed with the wolf 3d map

@djsmiley2k he mentioned playing it and its fun
@Burgi ahh
I need to replay that

Oh right

i saw you've got 55% completion so i plan to beat that... ;)

12:26 PM
also, totally follow up with the new collosus
ahh, I'm not completist.
I literally just play through

@Burgi and the Isle of Man :)

@JourneymanGeek Like... the retro version, right?

no the remake

@rahuldottech for you, probably ;p

lol

12:28 PM
@JourneymanGeek lol

Well its a bit complicated?
In a sense apparently they're all in the same timeline
and there were two sets of remakes

the early 2000s one was meh

But that's probably retro to rahul ;p

@JourneymanGeek I'm talking about the 1992 version
Wolfenstein 3D is a first-person shooter video game developed by id Software and published by Apogee Software and FormGen. Originally released on May 5, 1992 for MS-DOS, it was inspired by the 1981 Muse Software video game Castle Wolfenstein, and is the third installment in the Wolfenstein series. In Wolfenstein 3D, the player assumes the role of Allied spy William "B.J." Blazkowicz during World War II as he escapes from the Nazi German prison Castle Wolfenstein and carries out a series of crucial missions against the Nazis. The player traverses through each of the game's levels to find an elevator...

ahh no

12:29 PM
@rahuldottech Ninja'd

the original is actually a really bad game

That's the only real version. Everything else is an imitation :)

@DavidPostill 3D? I agree

boring, repetitive maps and weapons

@Burgi Yes, but it led to Doom and Quake :)

12:31 PM
yes, yes it did

> Wolfenstein 3D is often considered as the first true FPS, Doom was a game that popularized the genre and PC gaming in general, and Quake was id's first true 3D first-person shooter.

there is almost nothing better than killing nazis

Nazis are people too! Just people that its fine to shoot at.

> Prince Harry and Markle met on a blind date that a mutual friend set up.
Must be great to have friends who know members of the British royal family

12:35 PM
Hey so can I get a quick show of hands / straw poll? Anyone know their rough annual energy usage off the top of their heads?
(home-wise)

@bertieb no. I'm a minor. I don't deal with all that adult stuff. Ew. You guys have fun with that

Because mine is somewhere between a family of 3-4 in a medium or large house, accoring to the coop

@bertieb lol. most people don't. your provider can give your your annual consumption figures.

And I, uh, live alone in a smallish place
@DavidPostill I have mine
And they seem high
So I wondered what other folks' were

> Small house/flat – One or two bedrooms

With an annual gas output of 8,000kWh and an electricity output of 2,000kWh

For a small house or flat with one or two occupants, the average monthly utility bill is £61, which is an annual cost of £734, based on the annual energy output above.

12:37 PM
@bertieb I think there are undocumented immigrants living in your attic

this is roughly accurate for me

@Burgi Ta! That should also be me, but apparently I am powering the whole neighbourhood...

@bertieb Probably because we just had a shite winter. All of our customers have reported up to %50 higher bills in Feb and Mar.

1 sec i can get you my KWHs

12:38 PM
@DavidPostill Yea, I wondered that; but it's mostly the 'leccy
And uh, last years was higher, going by estimated usage 0_0

@bertieb Reports @bertieb for running a cannabis farm :)

@rahuldottech I think those migrants must've set up a renderfarm consisting solely of P4s, to account for that energy usage...
@DavidPostill I wish! Then at least I could pay my energy bills :P
(note to GCHQ: the above was a joke)
(pls no raids)
@DavidPostill Like I say, Pentium 4 renderfarm is probably closer to the truth...
Let's bring some real figures into play here
> Your personal for electricity over the next 12 months is £731.08 and 5651.00 kWh. Your personal projection for gas over the next 12 months is £294.65 and 7946 kWh.

Bitcoin mining?

Nope!

12:44 PM
@Burgi Ta

leccy is measure in KWH, gas is measured in cubic metres
my flat is a modern flat and is too hot 98% of the time

@bertieb I posted mine a week ago or so

@Burgi Hmm. Time for you to give meter readings as your bills will be estimated :)

@DavidPostill i'll get round to it eventually

@Burgi Yeah well, given the cold winter be prepared for a shock (estimated since Jan) ;)

electric oven

12:47 PM
D:

@djsmiley2k And you are estimated as well. FFS why don't folks give readings or get smart meters installed? ;)

so imagine a washing machine and drier running 24/7 too

hello

@DavidPostill the elec is smart meter!!!

Maybe a little too smart?

12:47 PM
FU are just terrible.

smart meter transmitter range won't reach my flat

@Burgi hahaha wut
oh, s oyou can't get a local reading?

@djsmiley2k wait. Your utility is called... FU?

@djsmiley2k Named after the sound you make on seeing one of their bills? :P

First Utility @JourneymanGeek

12:48 PM
@djsmiley2k Then ask your provider to pull daily reads!

@bertieb rofl.
@DavidPostill they supposidly do

@djsmiley2k any relationship with the vaguely terrible bus and train company?

the problem is their systems are terrible, so everything has the disclaimer of 'estimated readings'

please I would like to see the contents of this website before download it should I use .html or something by the way when I put in google search " site:menlo.edu/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/"; I can see the content in resulte search

@JourneymanGeek I don't think so?

12:49 PM
hm
Sounds like em

@Burgi That will only affect your IHD (In Home Display) not your physical meters.
@djsmiley2k Who is your provider? And who installed your smart meter?

welp they've stopped calling now

@Educ "see the contents of this website before download it" meaning what, exactly?

FU, and Siemens

@rahuldottech wait for me, I will give you an example

12:50 PM
@Educ its a 403 error

@Educ Okay

@djsmiley2k Ah. First Utility (spit). Siemens might make smart meters but they don't install them.

you can't download anything from that folder

@Burgi You can, if google has indexed it. Hence them using the "site:" parameter

the google index is delayed by several hours

12:53 PM
Right

@Burgi Doesn't matter here?

work is quiet, time to learn docker.

I wonder if solar panels might help offset
Altho all the subsidies were killed a while back IIRC?
(For 'all' read: 'some')

@Burgi Just reading that :P
I suspect the tl;dr will be "Solar, in the west of Scotland? lol no wai m8"

12:55 PM
@rahuldottech For example for this site emerson.emory.edu/services/latex

@Educ what about it?

I noticed that I can only add the last name with .html
and the content appears

its all about the apache rewrites

12:56 PM
i'm not familiar with that could you help me to see the content of my first site

no

@Educ Nothing you can do about that. It depends on the server software that the site is running on and how it is configured.

without using indesing of google

I gotta go. See ya guys.

ask the website owner

12:57 PM
@rahuldottech Thanks be safe
@Burgi I won't I will go with google indexing
Thank you

this suggests you are illegally stealing someone's content
