@Hennes Eh. It just means it's detected at some point and you clicked allow.
It doesn't mean it's actually run already, but that it's allowed to do so if/when you (or something else) launches it.

I copied a CD to my software repository.

Bob
I need to name my computer :P

So, yes, I read the program
I very much did not run it. (I would need to setup a VM without networking before I considered that, and the VM would be deleted afterwards)
@Bob Does it have wireless networking? If it does name your computer 'surveillance van 3'
They Growl Up So Fast

(I am about seven months pregnant. My boyfriend and I are in bed, watching TV. He is resting his head on my belly.)
Me: *burps silently*
(Boyfriend looks at my belly with a horrified expression.) Boyfriend: “I think the baby just growled at me!”

3:43 PM
@Hennes Heh. It actually has two wireless adapters but neither are in use :P

does anyone know why Message integrity Code is sent with Snonce in WPA2 PSK handshake? AP sends Anonce to Client(step 1)..Client sends Snonce to AP with MIC(step 2 of handshake)..MIC is sent to verify if the message is not been tampered with during transit but i don't think Snonce need to be verified..it is just a random nonce

@Hennes I have the opposite problem

@noitsbecky You are in SV3 but do not want anyone to know?

4:20 PM
@Hennes No, I have some applications that I keep telling Windows to allow but it keeps detecting and deleting them again and again.

ObFix: reinstall with OSX/BSD/Linux/DOS/windows 95.... :)

Q: Removing (Presumably) Extraneous Network Adapters from Device Manager (eg WAN Miniport)

SynetechCan anyone shed some light on the default items in the Network Adapters branch of the Windows Device Manager? In addition to the network card, there are always a bunch of other things that I cannot find any useful information on such as RAS Asynch Adapter and all the WAN Miniports (IKEv2, IP(v6),...

Hello, I am back among the living

I am going to try and look at my MB setup files and see if my EFI or UEFI is 64bit. @Ramhound suggest it could be 32bit. I know many have had issues with this board loading Windows and that wold explain it. Any suggestions?
Its must be in some kind of machine code that does not open in notepad. The extension is .120
When I search the web it just somes up 'files extension unknown'

Heyyy

so in OSX disk utility you guid, apple partition & MBR
what is the default when partitioning a drive on Windows

@RichManson - The simplest method would be attempt to install Windows 10 without a product key. If that is successfully, and you end up with a UEFI installation, and it's 64-bit then my theory has no weight. I will have to be honest, I am starting to get the impression, you don't believe what I have to say.

@Ramhound Huh ? What? That last sentence is what? Residual from yesterday?

If you call 2 hours ago yesterday I suppose
2 hours wasn't yesterday

@Ramhound What did I not believe you said two hours ago when you didn't say anything two hours ago?

7:06 PM
I wasn't around 2 hours ago to respond.

Exacly my point
So, what exacly are you trying to say? Just spit it out.

I thought I did "spit it out", I am starting to get the impression, you don't believe what I have to say.

@Ramhound You mentioned earlyer today that the BIOS could be 32bit and now I am trying to confirm one way or another

Try my suggestion on how to verify 32-bit/64-bit UEFI

Turns out I need more facial hair before I can use that fake ID of mine... :P

7:09 PM
I don't understand your sugestino as Window 7 will install 64 bit in BIOS mode so why would Windows 10 being installed as 64bit confirm UEFI?

The fact it can install with Legacy Mode actually supports the theory that its a 32-bit UEFI kernel

Kernal meaning the Windows Disk?

no

@Ramhound The Windows 7 dvd say 64bit. The install HD disk has an EFI partition
Kernal meaning BIOS firmware?

My theory is that, while your processor supports the x64 extension, the actual UEFI implementation is 32-bit

7:20 PM
@Ramhound Now you sound completely sure

In order to test this theory you install an OS that is more forgiving
I was completely sure 12 hours ago when I originally said it.
and 20 minutes ago when I said it again

@Ramhound Completely sure its 32bit your saying?

I don't feel like repeating myself again. I am errands to run.

@Ramhound You said, "If that is successfully, and you end up with a UEFI installation, and it's 64-bit then .........." and didn't really finish saying (sounding sensative) that, "my theory has no weight" so I don't know what you were going to say but what I don't understand from that is ..... from my understand is that 64bit OS's have installed on BIOS based machines before UEFI was even standarized and common.
So 1. how would I prove this via this method.
2. I am to asume that a EFI partition does not necessarily mean UEFI install?

7:38 PM
64-bit versions of Windows install does fine on MBR partitions
The EFI partition contains the firmware for Windows/Linux to boot
32-bit UEFI implementation can only boot 32-bit firmware and Windows 7 doesn't support 32-bit firmware
Read that; Until you try my suggestion I am going to disengage and go do something else
frustrating to spend my time repeating myself and explaining the samething multiple times
While the PC is in UEFI mode, the Windows PE version must match the PC architecture. A PC in 64-bit UEFI firmware mode can only boot 64-bit versions of Windows PE. A PC in 32-bit UEFI firmware mode can only boot 32-bit versions of Windows PE

A: How to reformat a pendrive on Win 7?

Rich MansonYou most likely zeroed out not only the partition(s) and their tables but also the MBR. Try rebuilding the MBR. Without it there, your system won't even know its is a drive or disk. There are many tutorial on the web for doing this.

Thats commentary submitted as an answer, and the commentary doesn't even answer the correct question, the author formatted the drive on purpose. A MBR partition isn't even applicable in this case
The author is having problems now the drive has no partitions creating partitions on it.

In the case of a legitimate post, it might actually be okay to remove the link.

9:10 PM
@Ramhound B4 I read those links, How can I try something when I don't know what exactly I am doing with your suggestion. You are not very clear. You said 64bit Windows installs on MBR fine, which I know but then you say, 'If it installs I would know it is a 64bit firmware.' But how would I know this. Even if I try to install Win10 I will be back with the same question.
So you can either be helpful and explain what it is I am looking for in this method or not but if you tell someone to try something to come to a conclusion, that person has to know what that conclusion is and how to extrapolate it or else you wasting both of their time. Wouldn't you agree? Doesn't that make sense?
Do you even know what your suggesting? You explained Win10 will install on both 32 and 64bit firmware and I have installed on 32bit firmware so I don't see how I am doing to deduce anything from this method unless this is must a smoke screen of sorts.
@Ramhound Furthermore I think you said that Windows 7 will only install 64bit to a 64bit firmware ......... and if that is true then it proves the firmware is 64bit

9:46 PM
I have been helpful
Your problem is that the installation process is crashing right?
I was suggesting (again I already explained this) to try and install Windows 10 x64 with UEFI mode enabled on a GPT partition. If Windows 10 also has a problem you have confirmed you have a 32-but implementation.
If it works then you have your Windows 10 installation you want. We can then at that point work through your Windows 7 issue.
Just tell me now if your going to even try my suggestion. You asking if I know what I am suggesting is annoyingly disrespectful.
I would like to know if I should continue to respond or just disengage.

10:08 PM
Anyways, If you think I have not been helpful, just flat out tell me that's the case so I know I can stop trying and failing to be helpful. Will save me a great deal of time.

@Ramhound OK, that finally explains your suggested method and makes more sense to me and tells me what to look for. Thank You, Sincerely but of course you could have said that long ago instead of going on about 'repeating yourself ' and taking offense.
Your must be really saying without actually, That Windows 10 64 bit will ONLY install to a UEFI system with 64 bit firmware.. That is what I needed to know.
Or did I misunderstand something again? Tell me before I try this. Just want to fully understand. Your saying Windows 10 will NOT install to a 32 bit firmware even with UEFI or as this MB calls it "Windows 8 Compatibility' Enabled?
Windows 10 64 bit version is of course what I or we are talking about.

I said Windows 64-bit (any version) will only install on a pc with a 64-bit UEFI implementation multiple times. Provided multiple links to articles that said that. I might not have literally said the words, but the links I provided, did. Because I know Rod Smiths answer was one of those links and I am looking at it now
Ask you multiple times to just try my suggestion. I can't mentally diagnose the problem until you do and that's why I am frustrated
Your stuck in 2nd gear and I am already in 4th gear waiting and you to catch up.

What was I thinking when I accepted to fix this damned laptop
Damn thing seems to only be able to boot from internal HDDs hate USB Win7 installs!
GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!

You actually have that laptop or you randomly linked to that question?

I have a laptop who is behaving like that

While a USB DVD drive makes the BIOS go kapuft. But only if it's a DVD. CDs boot fine.
@Ramhound I have heard of the lack os USB3 drivers on Win7 giving errors, so I tried the USB2 slot, same error.

The drive is USB 2 or 3?
if the device is USB 3 though....

10:36 PM
USB 2 flashdrive, USB 2 slot, USB 2 BD drive (not sure about this one)

unable to create partitions error is caused by installer being in the right mode. What your using to create the installation disk?

@Ramhound I tried dding the ISO but it won't boot, so I'm using RUFUS and letting it automatically pick the partition / file system / boot record mode.
I've found a blank DVD and I'm burning the ISO now and let's see what happens.

@Ramhound Ok Rod smith must have been the post from 12-13 hrs ago, that I said I would read when I got up. forgot about that one.

10:56 PM
@ThatBrazilianGuy what are you using to make the flash drive?

A: Install Windows 7 from USB flash drive

meguroyamaI love using rufus for extracting any OS onto a USB. It's source is on github as well. Rufus Source on GitHub Rufus Download

ah. same tool I use

@Ramhound I must not have opened that link of Rod's article. I'll try and see if I can find it in the transcript.
@Ramhound This author had that issue after he did the lo-level format which is why he is posting the question to begin with.

OH FOR THE LOVE OF ERIS AND CTHULHU COMPUTERS MAKE NO SENSE AT ALL
This external USB BD drive has a two-ended USB cable.
It can read CDs and DVDs in-os with just one end attached.
It can boot off CDs with just one end attached.
It will only boot off DVDs with both ends attached.
The ultrabook has two USB slots. One on each side.
How did I manage to make it work, you might ask?

@ThatBrazilianGuy With a USB hub?
"Some devices, such as high-speed external disk drives, require more than 500 mA of current and therefore may have power issues if powered from just one USB 2.0 port: erratic function, failure to function, or overloading/damaging the port. "

DavidPostillWhat is this weird USB cable The cable is called a USB Y-Cable. It is designed for devices which require more power than is available from a single USB port. What are the 2 different kinds of Y-Cable? One male connector, two female connectors There are two types of the one male tw...

@DavidPostill Tried that. No luck. Had to resort to more extreme, geeky measures:
An universal, very generic off-brand chinese laptop charger I forgot I even had, from my old laptop. It has a 5V USB charging slot :D

@ThatBrazilianGuy lol
There are passive adapters out there for this purpose. We have a few on hand, which we used when traveling overseas; just be sure your devices are rated for universal power (most modern AC adapters are).

I'm working a long time (hours without saving, I know it's wrong) with a project in Premiere. Now it suddenly came the loading cursor and I can't continue working. I'm worried that if I force the app to quit I will lose my job. What can I do?

@PichiWuana There should be auto-save data in the system you can restore from in the event Premiere crashes.

Where can I find it? How much would I loose?

@ThatBrazilianGuy I'm no electromagician but that should spark.

11:32 PM
I'm in the Mac
iMac

> hours without saving, I know it's wrong

@PichiWuana It's automatically generated every 15 minutes by default.

Knowledge without action is like a sword made of silly putty

That means you shouldn't lose more than 15 minutes of work.

So you say I should force Premiere to quit?

11:33 PM
If it's evident that Premiere is doing nothing useful, force-quit and restart it.

Thank you!

Got things working again?

11:49 PM
@ThatBrazilianGuy That gives me the screaming heebie jeebies
It literally makes me cringe and worry

@Mokubai can't really do that with UK plugs ;p

@JourneymanGeek You can, you just need a screwdriver as well.

@Mokubai much fatter connectors tho

true, but good design has never stopped the truly dedicated and ingenious idiots from killing themselves
sigh so are we allowing Hackintosh or not? Meta is still not clear.

No one's really posted an answer for it. And the general policy reasons still hold IMO
