I could make a joke, about e-peens and John Skeet, but my mind is weird and I am disturb by my own unwritten comment :$

A: Is it possible to partition VeraCrypt fully encrypted disk?

nikobradshawTo whoever downvoted: A downvote on an answer without an explanation as to why, doesn't belong in the stack exchange community. If my answer could use improvement, modification, or is wrong, then leave a comment so I can fix or change the answer. There might be some specialized tools or somethin...

notice the part of the downvote, great attitude that one has.

@Ramhound sarcasm or nah?

The user is serious
He is upset about a single vote without a comment

really?
are you kidding me?
@Ramhound i believe it is *supposed

@Ramhound I've rolled back his edit. That does not belong in the answer.

@varfirstName - no idea what your talking about
@DavidPostill - noticed that

9:20 PM
@Ramhound RA effect. He's now on -5

I issued the vote because 2/3 sentences in the answers belong in the comment section.
But that's just me personally
@nikobradshaw - You added comments to your answer. You can ask for feedback in the comment section.

Would it be too douchey of me to put an in-depth answer on the question after hounding the author of the other answer?
Because I can give a step-by-step

@varfirstName - Its exactly what you should do
If I knew what OS he was going to use
I would do it

one does not simply mount a drive on windows

You can even not vote on his answer, submit a better answer, and vote his answer down. see this meta on voting on his answer even if you submit your own

9:32 PM
@varfirstName meme required

!!onedoesnotsimply

@varfirstName That didn't make much sense. Use the !!/help command to learn more.

If that isn't a command, it needs to be

HOW!
i'm back to green!

green?

9:37 PM
I find it funny or sad perhaps
The user complains about no feedback, I in an act of concern, wanted to place him back onto the community roads when it came to voting. So I end up giving him feedback, on his answer, and he ends up saying he doesn't agree wit it
Which is the exact reason I didn't bother in the first place. Most people could careless about feedback, once they see that negative vote, they normally will never agree with whatever you say. As I said an futile act. There are exceptions which is the reason I even bother.

@nikobradshaw the "Comments" section on an answer is reserved specifically for the purpose of commenting on something without detracting from the actual answer. Please stop arguing with reputable community members over something that is written in stone. — var firstName 2 mins ago
@varfirstName Not sure that's helping :/ Trying to tell someone to stop arguing when they aren't really arguing will just make them even more defensive. He seems to genuinely be trying to understand. (Also, I apparently can't type at 5:40 PM)

@bwDraco you get +4 for those i found out

lol, calling me reputable is a mistake :$

@allquicatic understood.

@ramhound you have two different gravatars....

9:41 PM
I do?
I thought I fixed that...after I read about a problem, with the legacy ones

a blue one and a purple one

I see it too :D

where do I have a purple one?

gravatarception
@Ramhound when you make multiple chat line comments in a row
it makes your gravatar bigger eventually

@Ramhound The small one

9:42 PM
It shows as blue to me

I think if you make 3 chat line comments in a row it increases the size of your gravatar dynamically and it points to a different image, which in your case isn't the same gravatar, though it may be a caching issue on our side

I was in the room twice...
two different tabs :-)

That's now 3 different icons :)

weird..
@allquicatic - Good comment
better word smith then I am by far

while i like being green i do miss being a viper pilot

Hey yall finally figured out how to join this... Sorry didn't mean to clog up the comments section discussing this! I swear I saw a link so you can chat about the answer in a chat rather than the comments but I couldn't find it again.

Q: Profile picture changed automatically

ProgrammerMy profile picture changed 5 minutes after answering a question. I did not change it myself. It used to look like this: Now, it looks like this: Why did this happen? Is this an update or something? How can I revert back to the old default profile picture? Again I did not change this. Th...

why was rahul blocked in the first place?

If you happen to have a high-res backup of the old one, you can upload it. Otherwise there's nothing we can do. We have zero control over this issue - it's all on their side. — animuson ♦ 21 hours ago

9:48 PM
the gravatar thing is getting annoying

It's a gravatar issue.

@nikobradshaw after the same person comments multiple times consecutively, they can open a dedicated chat for the discussion

Q: Hmm, something funny with the, what-do-they-call it, Gravatar

EcnerwalI can be rather boring. Ever since I first signed up for this place I've had the same red "flair" gravatar pattern and never bothered to change it. As I type the familiar red one is up in the menu bar. But the one that was on a post I was just looking at was a different color, and a different pat...

@Ecnerwal I expect gravatar will fix the problem pretty quickly; some of my colleagues report that yours now work correctly for them (but some other ones are broken in similar ways) — Marc Gravell ♦ Aug 23 at 18:00

@nikobradshaw - Its fine. My issue with comments, specifically surrounding feedback, is a complicated issue. So when a user like yourself, complains about a single vote, and then pollutes their answer with said commentary it gets noticed. In the end my issue with feedback has nothing to do with yourself directly.

@varfirstName I didn't mean to sound hard headed there. I wanted to comment on OP's question to get more info to provide a less general sounding answer, but I didn't have the points to make comments on the questions yet. I did want clarification on the downvote because my answer felt like it did answer the question, but I understand it was because of the comments.
@Ramhound no worries I know you're trying to help, that's all I'm here for too

9:52 PM
@nikobradshaw ah, I see.

Q: Why do I need 50 reputation to comment? What can I do instead?

PëkkaUsers with less than 50 reputation points cannot write comments on questions and answers that they don't own. Why? What should I do instead? But I can't write a good answer without more information! See also: How do comments work? Comment Everywhere privilege in the Help Center ...

@BenN do you have that hotkeyed or something

@nikobradshaw - You would be shocked. there have been people in the past that complained about me. I am a complicate beast. I am a Type-A personality on one side, but on the other, I am an extreme introvert.

@varfirstName Nope, but it's just an MSE search away :)

@varfirstName @BenN is like marvin, a brain the size of a planet

9:55 PM
@allquicatic and thank you for the constructive feedback! The reason I said "generally no" is just cause it does depend on the system they use, but I didn't want to raise hope and say he could if he had X Y and Z without knowing if he actually had X Y and Z. I still stand by my opinion that a downvote should be for things more serious than an answer that could fit in a comment, but I honestly didn't expect an upvote either. My answer wasn't super great, but it definitely wasn't wrong at all

@varfirstName I have it in my AutoReviewComments script :)

@nikobradshaw - I never said it was wrong. I have high exceptions for a positive vote though. An answer has to be in an entirely another league. I write the same type of answers I expect out of everyone else. So I try not to be a contradiction.

my female friend is asking me if pigtails are approriate for a wedding

9:58 PM
@Ramhound oh for sure, which is why I added I wasn't expecting upvotes for my answer haha. I just didn't expect a downvote when the answer (albeit short) is correct

Yes, for windows. — user10232 3 hours ago
I think that eliminates the need to provide a platform-neutral or multiplatform solution in your answer @varfirstName

@allquicatic Do we know if that is the OP?

however doing it multiplatform could be more useful than an answer solely for Windows

Just being correct isn't enough. It has to help the answer solve their problem, or if the question is not realistic (walking to the moon), then be helpful to the community (tell the author and the community how to get to the moon).

The OP was only a member for one day and unregistered

10:00 PM
It might be correct, but I think the downvoters take issue with the fact that the answer could be interpreted as "yes, but I don't know exactly how"

@DavidPostill huh; not actually sure... didn't notice the slight difference in digits O_O

An answer is for entire community

I was thinking that it would be helpful to other users who use VeraCrypt in order to help anyone who visits the question

I think it's reasonable to include that extra info

@varfirstName indeed; giving them "more than they asked for" isn't bad if it's separated out and managed well (as your appears to be)

10:01 PM
So good answer?

gotta abuse that markdown # and section break

Yep, it's great to cover multiple platforms. Thanks for your answer!

@varfirstName yeah, upvoted

Thanks for the upvote, cat.

@varfirstName - Its not finished, so it has potential, lol....again that bar

the bar?
oh shit
it's in the wrong place >.>
wait no its not

I think the fact that the user commented so promptly on that question makes it likely that user12323 or w/e is the same as the OP; thanks for that comment DavidPostill
could also be an artifact of the fact it was migrated from security

@allquicatic Not if he'd asked on Security with the same account as everywhere else. The Security account was a new one.

@Ramhound Understandable for sure! Just to be clear I don't think you're unreasonable in your line of thinking haha, we just have a differing view is all I guess. I would have loved to have gotten more info so I could have provided a better answer but sadly can't leave comments on the OP's question since I'm in the low point hell.

10:07 PM
Thanks anon for the upvote

off to be helped by the cable company...I mean something by the cable company..so my cable box works again

@varfirstName lol. My name is not anon

@varfirstName get a room guys!

Ok, thanks BA.

@varfirstName You have a good memory :)

Indeed, Beloved Apostle.
I love how I have over 400 rep but have never asked a single question

I'd call him DP, but that only lacks a connotation of extreme potential perversity in forums that are heavily baseball-centric, where it's commonly accepted to mean "Double Play" (two outs on a single play)
everywhere else... hrhr

Dr. Pepper?

@allquicatic lol ;P

Just wondering, not requesting or anything, but can moderators / high reputation users mark an answer as solution if the OP abandons it?

@varfirstName No. It has been requested many times and rejected

10:14 PM
that's disappointing

The best answers are upvoted. The green tick is nice but it only means it was useful to the OP. It doesn't mean it is the correct or the best answer.

yea
I wrote an answer that didn't get the solution marking even though it was more detailed and helpful to OP, he had already ticked the other as solution whilst I was typing

Q: Would it be possible to have a "community accepted" feature?

George IVRecently, I have answered a few questions that were upvoted by factors more than the accepted answer, but not accepted. This one, at the time of my writing, has an accepted answer that the asker said was not what he wanted. I don't know why. In the future, when people view this, people might only...

i've written loads of answers and they never get accepted
the users also never come back

@Burgi That's normal if the OP hasn't been around for long.

very true

not sure if this is a commentary on my answer, or if he's legitimately trying to answer

@varfirstName That whole question should be closed - opinion based or too broad. Take your pick.

Opinion based

If this answer was more helpful than others, feel free to mark it as a solution. — var firstName 8 mins ago
@varfirstName Please don't do that, especially when the OP has accepted a different answer.

also too soon

@varfirstName It looks like answer to me. Why do you think it's a comments on yours?

once in a while, during my all-too-frequent visit to the litter box, while I'm digging around looking for a good place to sit (and introducing an alarming amount of clay dust into the air of my house), I pull out my phone and scratch out an answer at the same time:
1
A: Cannot connect to the internet after formatting my old PC's drive

allquicaticGenerally speaking, device drivers written for an older version of Windows cannot be used on newer versions of Windows. There are exceptions where this is not true, but the safe assumption in the general case is to assume that, unless your manufacturer explicitly provides a driver for the version...

Mrau?

wtf...

@allquicatic That's a long answer if written on a phone :)

also you need prune juice or something...
2

@DavidPostill I was kidding. I wrote it on my laptop (at my desk)

while in the litter tray?
ah

10:34 PM
@Burgi no ;p but it's part of the roleplay, shh

@DavidPostill My answer suggests a NAS, cloud backup, and internal drives

I love how questions get "RA'ed" like stuff getting slashdotted back in the day
sudden torrent of (up/down)votes

He points out the flaws in my NAS suggestion and cloud suggestion
seems to not know much about networking and how networks can be

so you know on friday when i got a bollocking in work?
and shouted out for not communicating

didn't follow that story, sorry, missed it somehow

10:42 PM
today they decided to cancel my deployment without telling me

@Burgi employment or deployment? big difference

deployment but i nearly resigned
i was absolutely livid

O_o

literally at 9am

what deployment was this? server? software?

10:43 PM
new website for our biggest client

yikes
and why'd they cancel this? for fun?

pretty much
our director isn't happy with the design
the customer signed off the design 2 months ago!
they didn't have the guts to include me in the meeting
i'm honestly thinking about jumping ship
its like they treat web development like a nice to have thing that they can use at will and have immediately
we even got a freelancer in today to help with the deployment and to handle any urgent incoming work

11:03 PM
hopefully you are not assigned to "teach" him anything

11:22 PM
i've done loads to stablize the web team and bring order to the chaos and madness
i've even got a customer to agree (at least verbally) to take on the responsibility of maintaining and sourcing future web servers

Dog
@Burgi again>

yeah
but what sort of rat would i be if i jumped at the first leak without at least attempting to patch the hole
sadly, for you guys, you are receiving my venting

@Burgi Eh, more like... why bother
Every job I've been in I've known people who hate the organisation/management/bureaucracy/etc. some way or other. Most find it more productive to stop caring enough than to try and fix everything (or quit when you can't)

Yay I see Ramhound spouting misinformation again, contradicting himself twice in the same sentence :-|

wasn't there a specific instruction windows 10 needed?
granted its something most modern systems have...

There is
I forget the bit
"I see Ramhound spouting misinformation again" be specific
@dog - So what information isn't correct?
