Q: Is Foul Fair? (Or what is this mystery bean)

Journeyman Geek I came across this at my local hypermarket, and I'm wondering what it is, and what one can do with it. If it isn't obvious from the picture (Bigger version here http://i.stack.imgur.com/M4TKG.jpg) Its a dark brown bean, roughly the size of a coffee bean, and a medium dark brown colour. The spe...

So... uh... Xiaomi clone, anyone? ebay.com.au/itm/171944575078
@JourneymanGeek HNK?
HNQ?

Can i ask questions related to pfsense firewall and networking?

Bob
@Crysis In chat? On main?
Anyway, yes you can.
Hm. Anyone happen to know how much a GPU in box weighs?

hi i need to configure pfsense firewall so how to setup pfsense wan and lan interface settings which is installed centos host machine through virtualbox
the network flow is like cisco modem ( NAT & DHCP configured) ---> centos 6.6 (Host Machine getting ip address through dhcp) ----> pfsense (installed in virtualbox 5.0 ).
@Bob in chat

Bob
@Crysis I don't think anyone in here is particularly experienced with pfsense.
At least, no one currently in here.

@Bob what gpu

Bob
1:42 PM
@Crysis That question is also a bit too broad for the main site, as it is.
@Crysis Specifically a Gigabyte GTX 760, but I was more looking for ballpark numbers since I'm unsure what packaging it'll have.

@Bob around 2kg

Which GPU in a box. Their weigh can vary quite a bit between low end card and high end cars with backplate and multiple coolers.

@Bob: hot network questions
@Bob: errrr
depends on the box ;p
tho I'd guess under 1kg

Acoording to my scales I weight 1.3KG more when I hold the box with my old graphics card (the AMD 5870)

Bob
1:57 PM
Thanks.
Looks like anything up to 3kg costs the same.
~$20
So, if all goes well I'll have a GTX 760 soon for $120 + postage :)

2:29 PM
nice bob
I mean what? 760?

Yup ;p
not a bad price too
(I flogged my 660 for 150sgd to someone who needed it, and the aussie dollar is a bit weak at the moment)

Bob
@allquixotic Hey, it's much cheaper than what I'd find a 960 for :P
Second hand. But should be fine.
@JourneymanGeek 1 AUD = 1 SGD :P
It went up a bit recently.

I'd meme okay, but the site that rlemon linked to with that meme pulled the image

@Bob:Yeah, but it went up to something like 1.50 at some point no?

Bob
@JourneymanGeek That was an... unusual... peak :P
Was something like 1.10 USD at the time.
Spent a few years around parity with USD.

2:37 PM
anyway, its a good enough card for many folk I suspect ;p

Bob
Ya. Though the fact that it's the 2GB model is a bit disappointing.
Still, far better than my current 560.
And NVENC would be nice.
And hopefully quieter too.

;p
That's one nice thing with some modern cards
the fans throttled way down
Mine's silent up to ~50 degrees

Bob
Ok. I might get it tomorrow :)

nice

Bob
Not-so-nice: about 5 mins after finalising that one, another offer was posted for $90 (+ postage). Urk.
Ah well, I should just be happy with the price I got :P
(and the $90 is significantly below 'normal' price for second-hand... hmmm grab another one to resell? nah.)

2:51 PM
lol

Bob
Ah, that's enough drama for one night.

SLI! ;p

Bob
@JourneymanGeek There's an idea!
Wait, do I even have a second port? o.O
I could maybe do SLI with 1x but that'd be ridiculous

4x PCIe 3.0 is probably enough for that card to not saturate the bus most of the time, but 1x won't cut it

Bob
and the mobo isn't advertised as SLI compatible. I don't even know if mobo support is required

2:57 PM
In the past motherboard (and firmware/BIOS) support was needed and you needed to pay Nvidia for that. (It had to be certified or it was not allowed).
Unlike crossfire, which was 'free'

3:12 PM
@JourneymanGeek you know anyone who's used MBR Wizard?

well, it's been more than 6-8 weeks, when are they going to fix this?

I wouldn't know but reckon they'll get around to it eventually

@allquixotic Thanks for pointing a feature that I didn't know about ;) I always been type @... and choosing the correct match

@allquixotic like how you walked through the programming steps for your friend, bookmarked

@DavidPostill that's what folks do on their mobiles since the reply arrow isn't available on mobile unless you use ChatSEy on Android, but the regulars when using a desktop click the arrow

3:26 PM
@DavidPostill thanks, though idk yet if I'll succeed. I'm working in uncharted territory and can't find enough support ;|

@xCare huh?

the discussion on the basics of C++ programming where you helped your friend
good of you to help him out
says I have the ability to add tags, how does that work?

@xCare What says "I have the ability to add tags"?

my rankings
I passed the point where it says I can add tags, was wondering about them; not that I want to though.
What I need to find right now is someone acquiainted with fixing MBR issues, preferably one who has used MBR Wizard before
haven't seen @Nikhil_CV around anymore, he knew about this sort of stuff

thanks
you know of any livechat or irc chat places which offer help with advanced pc issues?
reliable ones where they actually answer you?

I've always found SuperUser to be the most reliable place :/

well, I been asking and there doesn't seem to be anyone around who has dealt with MBR stuff and is willing to help

I know :(

4:29 PM
So temped to reply with "Hello IT. Did you try turning it off and on again" to this post.

Q: I don't know how to stop a script

Daniel MendezI copied and ran this scrip to stop my PC from going into the lock screen. Now i don't know how to stop it and having the "NumLOCK" reset every 6 seconds while working on excel is challenging: Dim objResult Set objShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") i = 0 Do While i = 0 objResult ...

4:47 PM
O_o time.windows.com (the Microsoft NTP server that ships with every Windows release) has a default IIS page

5:03 PM
@allquixotic Advertising?

5:20 PM
huh. aberrantly slow network today

4 hours later…
"We have detected this workstation may potentially have malicious software on it. Rebuild the users machine, delete their profile, leave no survivors."

"Nuke it from orbit, its the only way to be sure."

Security is such a tricky business these days...

9:14 PM
Security is easy. Using something in a secure manner in an insecure place (internet) is tricky.
And letting squishy meatsacks do anything with something you want kept secure while simultaneously giving them nearly unfettered access to the world's combined porn stash is a recipe for disaster.

3 hours later…
11:58 PM
I have just been restarted! This happens daily automatically, or when my owner restarts me. Ready for commands.
