o.O
@JourneymanGeek ebay.com.au/itm/…
That thing looks deadly...
Bob

(actually, it probably is - four of those cheap batteries would make a sizable explosion...)
@Bob So deadly it already broke the image links in the description O__O
Oh boy!
Enabling those MySQL logs was a great idea
-rw-r----- 1 mysql adm 2.4G Oct 12 15:52 mysql.log

Bob

?
2.4G collected so far, since logrotate created a fresh one tonight
Bob
Bob
o.O
Seems like those logs compress really well though
The previous one compressed from 2GB to 70MB
A cool 8 million lines :D
Bob
Bob
70M a day is still a bit much
Well, it logs everything
And I think I know now why it compresses to well
There is a ton of these:
24669 Query	select poller_output.output, poller_output.time, UNIX_TIMESTAMP(poller_output.time) as unix_time, poller_output.local_data_id, poller_item.rrd_path, poller_item.rrd_name, poller_item.rrd_num from (poller_output,poller_item) where (poller_output.local_data_id=poller_item.local_data_id and poller_output.rrd_name=poller_item.rrd_name) LIMIT 10000
Which smells like Cacti to me
There are literally hundreds of these within 1s intervals
14:02
holy crap
235 rep today
I clearly misunderstood how the rep cap works.
it's only for upvotes after the 200
@Braiam: I think 2 of those upvotes were post 200
You got 5 accepts, so everything is fine
yeah, I've never gotten that many accepts in a day ;p
and I thought accepts count against the cap until you hit 200
Maybe recalc your rep just in case

Q: Jon Skeet rep-capping at <200 pts, but then later getting points for upvotes up to 200?

Precious TijesunimiI know about the daily reputation cap and according to the answer in that question: Any upvotes you receive after earning 200 reputation from upvotes for the day no longer award any points. But look at Jon Skeet's reputation changes today. From the screenshot, he stopped getting reputati...

Alright, Cacti is disabled. Let's see what that does to my MySQL logs and my errors I've been getting :P
lol
and your massive log files?
I hate Cacti so much
It never works right

Q: How to disable firewall in phoenix's BIOS?

JackTo try install FreeBSD, I need to disable firewall in a phoenxi's BIOS. How do I this?

I'm missing something here
WAHT?
(and yes that was intentional)
14:11
@JourneymanGeek Why are you even asking for clarification. He already said he means the firewall, duh :D
.... WHUT?
@JourneymanGeek my comment is more helpfoo than yours :P
I almost used words like premise and nefarious.
but decided that I wanted to keep it as simple as possible.
Oh, I bought a pair of headphones - marked 35 dollars with a 5% discount. They billed me 25 dollars.
I didn't notice till I got home XD
14:15
block your Credit Card... they will notice the mistake and bill you 35 dollars :S
paid cash
;p
oh god. Now he says he linked the wrong question
this is turning into a deep pit of WTFery
.......................... OMG
sad thing is? I may be able to answer it
I have a thinkpad of similar vintage
@JourneymanGeek I think my comment is still more helpfoo than yours :P
lol
whatever ;p
now we know what the REAL problem is
14:19
wait, and he has 170 rep!?
11 questions one answer....
ahh
100 rep association bonus
has close to 3k on SO
Bob
Bob
@OliverSalzburg Oh, I thought you were talking about the plant -_-
lol
ok, now the Firewall firewire confusion is solved, now the important thing is know why he thinks that it will fail with those problems...
@Braiam the other question is his also. The problem is that the install is failing and Hennes suggested it might be firewire related.

Q: run_interrupt_driven_hooks still waiting after 60 seconds for xpt_config

JackI have downloaded the FreeBSD 9.0 for i836 but during boot/installation I get the following message: run_interrupt_driven_hooks: still waiting after 60 seconds for xpt_config I waited for 10 minutes and nothing changed. I have no idea how to fix this. I tried to run it on: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 ...

@terdon ohhhhh, I see, but @JourneymanGeek do you have such option in your system? :P
was reading this forums.pcbsd.org/…
14:31
@Braiam: going to need to dig up the laptop ;p
probably tommorrow

A: How can I read a floppy disk formatted by Windows 3.1 on Windows XP?

BobI have a machine running with Windows XP and have tried opening some old Word documents produced several years ago on floppy disks using a desk top computer running with Windows 3.1. The XP machine opens the documents but each line of the text is interspersed by 5 or 6 lines of strange curved cor...

this would be an AWESOME question if not for one problem
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek it's amazing that the file could be opened at all
heh
might have been office 1 or 3 ;p
15:06

there's a copy of it floating around online ;p
Shockingly, I don't have a windows 3.11 vm
@JourneymanGeek nor should you! don't even try, young man! RAVI!!! DON'T DO IT!!!!
@allquixotic: I used to at one point XD
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek I think you just broke @allquixotic...
@Bob: I know ;p
might be too much work for an answer
Bob
Bob
Oh yea, @allquixotic, this probably explains @ChatBotJohnCavil's info message: isUserAGoat()
15:20
huh, I lost 20 rep today because "User was removed"?
Bob
Bob
Or maybe it's the Chrome thing. Anyways...
!!info
@allquixotic I awoke on Fri, 11 Oct 2013 03:47:57 GMT (that's about 1 day ago), got invoked 52 times, learned 1 commands
@allquixotic: it happens
at least it wasn't Cavil that got deleted
@JourneymanGeek first it's happened to me
15:21
I think I've lost ~80-100 rep from that
Bob
Bob
Ok. Anyone wanna explain why "unreachable code" in Java is a compile-time error?
this guy is interesting
under the radar spammer possibly
with...
a gold badge
that's the best possible explanation I can give you
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic Still doesn't really help me understand (coming from C#) why it's an error and not a warning.
15:26
@JourneymanGeek why spammer? The Qs all look real (boring but real).
Bob
Bob
Just tried an early return for debugging - and apparently I have to wrap it in an if statement because the bloody language decided it needed to hold my hand? Grrr...
@terdon: look at his one answer
@Bob I actually think the reason it does that is because it makes flow analysis easier for the JIT
well, perhaps not

A: Unreachable code compiler error

Tomasz Nurkiewicz Will it break the Java bytecode somehow, is it to protect the programmer or is it something else? This is not required as far as Java/JVM is concerned. The sole purpose of this compilation error is to avoid silly programmer mistakes. Consider the following JavaScript code: function f() { ...

@JourneymanGeek I did, seems honest enough. The link is to some public wiki not any kind of money making thing.
Oh and by the way, that heating question I asked your take on yesterday (sorry, I was not here when you answered), I think it is a hardware issue because the fans are spinning at full speed but the laptop is still overheating. If it were a power management thing the fans would not be spinning at full speed.
@terdon: scroll ALL the way down
(also, he's posted this on SU and AD as well)
Bob
Bob
15:33
@allquixotic Really, a technical reason would be the only way I would consider this halfway acceptable (and even then it likely wouldn't make that much difference).
@JourneymanGeek that's a different problem. I scrolled down, what am I missing?
@terdon: while they use a mediawiki site, that looks basically like a landing page for spammy software
its basically a disguised ad
Ah, perhaps. Some kind of mal/adware? Still, the "spammer" has mentioned this once, if anything I think he is a victim.
Bob
Bob
@terdon fans at full speed and laptop overheating? sounds like bad thermal paste/pad
@terdon: he's posted links to the same site on AD
I've love to give the benefit of the doubt, but he smells fishy
Bob
Bob
15:36
@JourneymanGeek ok, I always took "accidentally my X" to be a kind of joke
but this is taking it too far
lol
yes, he accidentally his bin
@Bob my point exactly. The puppy (who knows way more about hardware than I do) thinks it might not be, hang on, I'll find the question
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek so... he binned his bin? ;)

Q: laptop is getting too hot after switching from Windows 8 to Ubuntu 13.04

siwicaEver since I switched from Windows 8 to Ubuntu 13.04 my Laptop is getting way to hot. When I run sensors I frequently get something like: acpitz-virtual-0 Adapter: Virtual device temp1: +86.0°C (crit = +200.0°C) k10temp-pci-00c3 Adapter: PCI adapter temp1: +91.0°C (high = +70.0°...

it's also possible that Windows would throttle the CPU more aggressively than his Linux setup. but the root of the problem is likely either bad thermal contact or dust clog (three years old? ya)
15:38
yup
the OS switch is the odd thing here
Since the OP just cleaned it, I figure that only leaves the paste.
and thats the difference ;p
@JourneymanGeek yes but I am not sure if the problem started with the switch or shortly afterwards.
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek the OS switch likely wouldn't cause the problem. expose it, maybe, but likely not cause
unless something is pegging the CPU...
And in any case, fans spinning fast yet overheating indicates a deeper problem to me.
Bob
Bob
15:40
ya, that too
Especially since he has the ondemand governor set which throttles the CPU when uneeded
oh wait
you have actual access to this system?
hmm
eww
packard bell
Bob
Bob
what the fucking giant fucking moth flying around
it's bigger than my thumb O.O
MOTH!
thats not a giant moth ;p
this is a giant moth
wow, I was just going to post exactly the same thing :)
15:49
;p;
I've seen one in real life
Yeah, me too. On a sailboat in the middle of nowhere in the Mediterranean of all places. Must have been about 8 years old and still remember it.
Bob
Bob
not that giant
still enough to make quite annoyingly loud pings when it ricochets off everything
small lighthouse off singapore, dad used to work for a company that had a employee chalet there
Bob
Bob
my almost empty air duster has been quite useful in scaring it back out of some places, but I just can't catch it
Bob
Bob
15:54
there, got it with a shoe when it finally landed on a wall within reach
light tap, I hope I didn't kill it :\
yay it's moving
@Bob wait. you smacked it with a shoe and hope you didn't kill it?
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic very light tap, and actually a slipper
it's quite lively. walking all over the place
I might've damaged the wings slightly, but it did manage to fold them
wings folded, it's a little smaller than my thumb
@Bob aww, you're torturing the poor thing! damaging its wings... that's like breaking your arm... i'm sure it hurts
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic :(
just put it out of its misery :(
Bob
Bob
15:58
I wanted to let it out
well now's your chance -- you can pick it up and put it outside now that it can't fly, but its wings probably won't heal if it's too hurt to fly
there aren't moth hospitals
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic don't worry, wing's fine
it unfolded them shortly after I stopped touching it, and took off again -_-
now how am I gonna get it outside?
open a window?
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic every window has a flyscreen
I'm also in the middle of the house, surrounded by light sleepers at 3 AM :S
ah whatever. back to attempts at tissue-catching
Bob
Bob
16:53
Is it just me, or does this site look really familiar?
17:34
@Bob Amazony
nice models though
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic I was thinking more DX, but then Amazon might as well not exist as far as I'm concerned.
@allquixotic o.O
I just see a bunch of tablets, GPSes, etc..
@Bob lol it shows me womens clothing
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic ...does this have anything to do with any of your recent searches? :P
@Bob I do all that in incognito, so no
trying to figure out whether they're selling hot models to men, or clothing to women
at least truth in advertising - bang good
it's a Chinese Amazon knockoff.

great way to sell it -- "your fears are justified"
