Oh and by the way, that heating question I asked your take on yesterday (sorry, I was not here when you answered), I think it is a hardware issue because the fans are spinning at full speed but the laptop is still overheating. If it were a power management thing the fans would not be spinning at full speed.

it's also possible that Windows would throttle the CPU more aggressively than his Linux setup. but the root of the problem is likely either bad thermal contact or dust clog (three years old? ya)
