i'm actually doing it from within gparted - i run a drive health first to determine if they can even handle wipe attempts lol

i'll still remove the platters, scratch them and put them on my shelf, ditching the rest of the drive.

can never be too careful!

and storing 20+ platters is easier than the headache of data theft... Or more importantly - the loss of sleep from sending them off site to be disposed :D

@nhinkle oh I wouldn't say my ideapad is inferior at all. Its just built for a different purpose. Thinkpads are definitely more workstation type laptops. The Ideapad is more consumer oriented, but its got gaming chips for graphics, as opposed to Quadro/workstation type ones on a thinkpad. Still built really well, Lenovo is solid.
