yay

@JourneymanGeek yay?

for @nhinkle 's monitor working ;p

@JourneymanGeek rejoice! And my Thinkpad arrived today, too :D

double yay

3 hours later…
4:11 AM
I have a conundrum. I love the concept of the Raspberry Pi. For $25, I'd be all over that. And I want to be. However, I do not know of a good project for it. I can program all I want on computers. I don't want to do something generic like making an RC toy. I'd rather make something that I otherwise couldn't buy and could use daily.
The problem is, I can't think of anything in that category. I really want to make something, but I don't know what to make! :(
And the most fun thing about it, for me, would be that it'd be something modular and portable. Preferably something that I could plug into other devices or a network and it would do something neat using that communication.
Or, something robotic and totally not something in the consumer market...
The possibilities are endless! And that's the problem! :O
/rant
As a sidenote, CloneDVD Mobile is awesome. I can now take my DVDs and put them on my phone as regular .mp4 files. :)

4:58 AM
God damnit. Stupid Korean monitor worked for about an hour... and then stopped working. Died. Nothing on the screen.
Which means I'll probably have to pay like $100 just to ship the damn thing back to Korea.

@nhinkle damn

@Sathya I'm pretty pissed. I've talked to probably a dozen people who've ordered them and nobody's had a problem.

5:21 AM
@nhinkle Long term peace and prosper!
@Sathya Morning
Who uses ClamWin among you?

Anybody know how to do a screenshot while installing windows?

@sidran32 Yeah, I have one on order, and I am effectively expecting inspiration will arise with it coming through the door
@sidran32 As it stands, it probably isn't that useful for many things (that you can't do with a PC), but with the expansion boards (like Arduino sheilds) it should make it easier to connect it up to all kinds of things. I like the idea of running home automation with it.

5:38 AM
@sidran32: Have one on order ;p
@KronoS: use a VM?
@sidran32: also (and everyone is probably sick of hearing this) new phone! ;p

6:33 AM
@KronoS Use a camera?

VM approach is good

7:07 AM
Anybody works from home or knows websites that allow you to?

7:33 AM
@Boris_yo Websites that allow you to work from home?

Bob
I almost forgot how bad I am at soldering :(

7:45 AM
lol
@Bob: practice makes perfect
also, heat the pad, apply the solder to the pad not the iron, tin your iron...

Bob
7:59 AM
@JourneymanGeek no, not a pad/PCB
an abused USB connector :P
@JourneymanGeek practice makes a pile of wasted material and a thick cloud of toxic smoke ;)

8:46 AM
@Bob: Magic smoke!

I think that guy is angry at something:
-1
A: Alternative to Sandboxie for 64-bit systems?

onbekendWTF FUCK!! i hate microsoft!!! new sandboxie for 64bit system ! great alone vista and fucking win 7.. but sandboxie for XP 64 bit does exist ! i hate that! anything work but alone fucking sandboxie don't work on xp 64 bit fuckers!!

Can't figure out what, though

He needs a lart to the head, and a chill pill enema :)

Bob
@JourneymanGeek No, just melting plastic and burning resin :P

MAGIC
SMOKE

Bob
I'm nowhere near good enough to be holding a soldering iron close to anything that contains magic smoke...

8:49 AM
lol
(also, USB plugs are not fun to learn with)

Bob
Plugs would probably be easier - I was soldering wires to a PCB mount socket :P

lol
leads are the easiest

Bob
@Gnoupi Looks like Sandboxie doesn't support XP x86-64, and has limitations on Vista/7 x86-64. Not sure why he's bashing MS over this, though. Or why he's using the rather unstable XP x86-64 :\

on account of being stiff

Bob
I'd prefer something where my soldering iron's rather large tip can actually fit :P

8:53 AM
ok, plan to bring home one of the desktops foiled

@Bob Because if something is wrong when you use Windows, you blame Microsoft, obviously

what, you using a plumbers soldering gun? ;p
/me wonders if you can set up an ADSL router with ISP firmware as a regular router
only one way to find out ;)
wait, what?
this seems to think i've been connected for 5 days on a hotspot i just set up

9:18 AM
@OliverSalzburg looks like pretty much every answer there is wrong... want me to delete my answer? not sure of a good one :/

Bob
@Gnoupi Pity. I'm sure the vast majority of complaints about Microsoft/Windows are due to unsupported and/or third party software :\

@Bob Anything and everything that crashes in an OS is because of the parent company.

Bob
@jokerdino Of course.

9:44 AM
:)

10:04 AM
@WilliamHilsum Well, those were different times ;D But now is your time to shine ;) meta.superuser.com/questions/5329/…

hey all, love the avatar jokerdino :D

:D

Bob
new avatar? :O

@Bob Ctrl-F5

Bob
@jokerdino nah, it was just too small to tell :P
"singling clipart"? lol

10:09 AM
hm
which of my latest edits got rejected?

@jokerdino None?

I had only 4 rejects for quite some time. :'(
And thanks for the approvals so far.
I probably lost count sometime ago.

@Bob Ah crap. Now I remember.
I made a nice edit and someone overrode it with a retag edit.

What is the "phantom" slider doing?

10:21 AM
i wonder what you were watching that you had to gray it out ;-)

Bob
lol

@jokerdino And I will never tell you ;)

hehe

Bob
@OliverSalzburg tip: redact every program so it stands out less
:P
was it a game, video, or other?

other
actually, i think it is video

Bob
10:25 AM
so, what was the video player? :P

OR
Justin Beiber's video.

Bob
.. the video player, not the actual video. I don't want/need to know which video xD

sure you do

@Bob Media Player Classic

Bob
Not if it's JB related..
@OliverSalzburg Never liked the interface :P

10:27 AM
With that information you should be able to reverse the blur kernel, apply said kernel to millions of possible letter combinations, compare, solve

Bob
annnnd I don't seem to have it installed

@Bob What interface?

Bob
@OliverSalzburg The one MPC uses

There
That's my interface :D

Bob
lol

10:29 AM
Spacebar - Play/Pause. MouseWheel scrubs the timeline. Different modifier keys cause bigger or smaller jumps.
What else you need? :D

this is becoming more mysterious. :p

@jokerdino You're wondering what black image I'm watching that needs to have it's name blurred?

@OliverSalzburg did you plug in a headphone or something?

@OliverSalzburg Yes that :P

Bob
that reminds me, I need to get VLC on my phone

10:30 AM
@Sathya Now I moved the slider and the phantom disappeared :(
@jokerdino The image is black because I haven't pressed play since the computer woke up

I've seen that before but never figured out what/why it appears

And, didn't we have a question about those rectangles in the Volume Mixer as well?
Like they show up in my screenshot as well :D
9
Q: Unknown glyph symbols on the Volume Mixer

UnsignedI get these symbols on the volume mixer. It seems to happen at the end of every line. This is a nearly clean install of Windows 7 x64 (only Chrome and Firefox installed). Any idea where this could be coming from? The system is using all the default fonts. It is not a localization issue, and has...

@OliverSalzburg Alright. Just having some fun.

Bob
why.. WHY does the Play store put okay/accept on the right and cancel/decline on the left?!
sigh... I know OS X use(s|d) that order, but...

@OliverSalzburg Hmm... if I find a flash player, I will edit it, likewise, if I see any of those questions, I will do it like that from now on...
thanks
right now, the only edit would be a delete, but, it looks like it has helped a few people, so I am hesitant to delete for now

10:37 AM
@WilliamHilsum The the highest voted answer. At least putting in a screenshot, a quick introduction, that wouldn't hurt

fair enough

@WilliamHilsum There, I made the first step ;D

I was just about to click save on mine!
I have been editing!

Lol, feel free to discard mine ;D

Kept your tag line... need to delete mine, and, I like your picture better than mine, with the exception of the MAC stuff! need windows version! :P
I'll use yours, better than mine! Are the other two programs I wrote about ok?

10:48 AM
@WilliamHilsum Currently working on another answer ;D

hm it got closed

@jokerdino At least it's cleaned up now :)
I'll reopen it when @slhck isn't looking ;P

2 hours later…
12:35 PM
These default review comments are really starting to piss me off...

>:)

Granted, it's not a particularly good answer, but it was a really stupid question to begin with.

@DanielBeck That's no excuse for a bad answer.

@OliverSalzburg That's not what I mean. What else do you need but the name of the property you need to use? Sample code?

@DanielBeck Yeah, that'd be nice. If you just want to direct him to the documentation, a comment is fine. Wouldn't you agree?

12:42 PM
Microsoft's documentation says: The key property of the MonthCalendar control is SelectionRange, the range of dates selected in the control.
That's the exact same thing I wrote, plus some unnecessary text.
And that's what I mean by really stupid question: There just isn't anything I could reasonably answer but "The answer is 'Foo', and here's a complimentary link to the docs"
I could have quoted that sentence from the docs, which is a waste of time as MSDN links are eternal and generally more up to date than my quote if something changes.
I could have specified the return type — but someone asking this is using Visual Studio, you get all of this for free right in the IDE.
Sample code? `var range = myMonthControl.SelectionRange;`
Given this question, there just isn't anything else to add that actually makes sense (other than keeping the crap queue algorithm happy).

I disagree. I hope you would see it differently if it wasn't your answer.

What would you add?

If I just wanted to point someone to a documentation page, I would not write an answer at all, but post it in a comment.
I don't know how I would have answered the question as I don't know the correct solution off hand.

1:11 PM
This error...

@OliverSalzburg One of my favorites as well...

1:22 PM
@Paul Yes
Interesting; comments in image format:
Oh sorry, mistake.
Anyway tablet is cheap but of known brand - Ainol
This one is beastier:

Nice price

1:57 PM
@OliverSalzburg Priceless. That's Microsoft at its best right there...

@r.tanner.f I'm pretty sure this is a rare error under normal conditions. But I run into it once a month at least.
It leaves me in despair :D

A: What is the equivalent of Chrome's Alt+Enter in the address bar for Firefox?

avirkThe same shortcut works on the Firefox 13 and according to my information it will work on older versions as well. Just highlight the address bar and then press Alt+Enter and you will get the dupe tab of the current one. Also there is an extension available for this for Firefox which can open ...

I got no upvote while other has got 4 for this :(
;P

I'll throw you one =P lol

who upvoted O_o
@r.tanner.f lol
thanks
@OliverSalzburg what extension do you use to take screen shot of whole web page?
Aha I forget to upload something :P

@avirk Greenshot. Usually the page fits on 1 screen. Otherwise I open it in IE. Greenshot can make full-page shots in IE

2:06 PM
@OliverSalzburg aha that would be nice. But I'm using Chrome and hate IE so there sould be an extension for me and it is :D

Bob
@OliverSalzburg Can Greenshot do that with any scrollable window?

Any1 figured out the screen shot?
@Bob exactly what i was asking :D

@Bob No, it's a specific IE implementation.

@OliverSalzburg I was talking about whole web page which could be scrollable :P

But a portrait screen often works wonders with scrollable windows ;D

Bob
2:10 PM
@Oliver pity... I really want to switch, snagit has a horrible range of upload options :P
and cost a bit :\

@Bob how you take shot of that?

Bob
but I need my scrolling screenshots... just have to manually upload for now
of what, @avirk?

I wish I could post an example right now, but Greenshot is is being a pain again

Bob
I'm on my phone right now, can't see if you're replying to a specific message

There
That's how Greenshot captures IE

2:12 PM
@Bob scrollable web page?

Bob
SnagIt
but not free, and upload options are bad

@OliverSalzburg use fireshot extension for chrome
@Bob greenshot is good alternative

@avirk I only used that option 3 times yet. Once to make the screenshot I just posted, once was an accident and one time to try it out :D

Bob
@avirk but apparently lacks scrolling window screenshots
really need the best of both worlds :P

@Bob use fireshot extension

Bob
2:17 PM
@avirk not just Firefox

@Bob I'll give you for that.

Bob
@avirk No need:
...that was not a good example

which example

@avirk Why did you edit and completely change the other persons answer (that was answered before yours) so that it reads very similar to yours? Seems a but self defeating?

Bob
@avirk broken link

2:28 PM
@HaydnWVN nah my answer is bit different there
with extension there

slightly, as in it provides more info

also he mentioned about FF14 while it works on FF13 and older versions :P

but why change the original?

@HaydnWVN didn't want to change it
Should I delete that?

anyone willing to discuss some random psychological topic in here?

2:35 PM
if his comment was incorrect i'd be tempted to leave a comment on it saying so... Yours would then get more upvotes :)
whereas now they're both very similar, admittedly yours is more concise, but his reads easier and is a quicker, simpler answer... Hence the upvotes, those votes should be yours as his answer is more you than him ;)

@HaydnWVN ;P

@jokerdino no, but find me some speakers for an NEC v421 :P

But my bad I didn't got them as user thought I dupe that as the posting time matters :D

@HaydnWVN what's that?

@avirk you talking about my answer to the question where I said it works with FF14? lol
the one about bing set to his homepage

2:39 PM
@allquixotic :P

@jokerdino 42" LCD a year or 2 old i can't find the official speakers for

@HaydnWVN Oh. I thought you were talking about human speakers.

no apparently you aren't
since you have no activity on superuser.com/questions/464371/…
so ignore me :P
I've already hit my rep limit for today, so I guess I have to get back to real work. :-(

@jokerdino Maybe i could just plug a couple of humans in? Would I need to wall mount them?

@allquixotic HOw can i talk about that

2:40 PM
@avirk I was just reading up in chat and it sounded like you were talking about my answer to that question but you weren't

@allquixotic yep really that was about this superuser.com/questions/463975/…

oh ok

@allquixotic the other user had posted the nswer and mentioned that it works only with FF14 while it works on older versions too
That's why I posted the other answer rather than edit it completley :P
@HaydnWVN where is you +1 for me ;P

@avirk haha

@r.tanner.f :D

2:48 PM
@HaydnWVN Just need humans with USB ports.

@HaydnWVN FYI the other user edited his answer himself, @avirk only did some formatting.

@jokerdino, those are not far off. unfortunately USB 3.0 can't push the amount of data needed to sufficiently utilize the 1,000 petaflops of compute power of the human brain

@DanielBeck yup :)

@allquixotic uhm.
We are nerds.

i would rather recommend PCI-Express 4.0 or some kind of fiber backplane for using the brain's compute power ;P
who needs a GPU when you can just convert your language processing center into the equivalent of 100 Nvidia GTX 580s

2:51 PM
I'm asking you all why don't you all guys upvote me to get my rep high :P

upvote you where? question link

@DanielBeck Ahhh ok, sorry @avirk, misunderstood the edit

@HaydnWVN np at all dude

@avirk I'd already upvoted you ;)

@HaydnWVN I'm just saying to all other guys :D
who didn't upvote me ;)
@DanielBeck have you used MAC

2:55 PM
Mandatory Access Control? Macintosh? Media Access Control?

now I'm getting my right back :D
@allquixotic 2nd one lol
@allquixotic do you?

I have used it

I've used mac's, but i wouldn't confess to using or knowing them lol
anyone (out of my network) tell me what 82.98.86.175 resolves to?

I don't use it frequently enough to profess expertise
umm... that doesn't resolve... might be my DNS server though :P

@HaydnWVN www175.sedoparking.com.
175.86.98.82.in-addr.arpa. 28676 IN     PTR     www175.sedoparking.com.
To be specific ;D

2:59 PM
@OliverSalzburg clever one ;)
