@SimonSheehan you are alive :P

@studiohack Haha yes, its been too long, I feel bad neglecting you guys from my life :(

@SimonSheehan no worries, just wanted to make sure you weren't dead :)
I like to make sure my SU friends stay alive haha

@studiohack Oh I'm very alive :) Definitely wanting to get back onto here more now, I actually have some time too

@SimonSheehan good...
any fires up your way, btw?

@studiohack Not that I know of. It's VERY hot out (34 degrees at the moment), but I haven't heard anything about fires.

7:14 PM
@SimonSheehan interesting... got tons of them here
one has burned nearly 400 square miles, just north of me

@studiohack Oh wow, that insane. Really hot there too?

@SimonSheehan super hot lol
working in it too

@studiohack Oh jeez. Although at least you do get to go out and enjoy the hot weather while its here :)

@SimonSheehan baahhhh, I like it nice and mid cold :P

First summer here we haven't had fire bans :)

7:16 PM
@Luke we had one over the entire county a day or so ago :P

@studiohack My good temperature is about -15.... so +34 is a bit of a killer :P

@SimonSheehan I like around 0 C or above

@studiohack What exactly is a county? We don't have those in Canada... Is it just a group of small towns?

@Luke we have states in the US, like your provinces. then those states are divided up into smaller units, called counties

@Luke Sort of like regions, eg: GTA, although much smaller I think..

7:18 PM
yeah, smaller.

Hmm. We call them areas... Or Regions in Ontario, if @SimonSheehan is correct

@Luke What area of Canada are you in?

BC
In the northern area, Prince George

Ahh okay, I'm over in Ontario

Also, GTA = Greater Toronto Area :P

7:22 PM
lol

I think of it as a Region :P

anyways, I need to run errands and copy stuff to the computer and stuff - GREAT to touch base w/ you @SimonSheehan and I hope to see you around a bit more :)

I live in the "durham region"
@studiohack cya later :) i'll be back haha

I'll be out over the next two days, got a wedding in a remote area (2 hours by dirt roads)
have fun!

Cya later!
Have a good time too

7:24 PM
I will - looking forward to driving my truck on it :P

Oh good fun :D

I've got a custom CRM that I've built on a ubuntu 12.04 server that has on average 150 people using it at a time... Which would be better for my apache prefork (its currently using that now) or worker?

Hi @studiohack :P

@sidran32 I was just leaving :P
read up for what's up haha
I'll be back on later :)

Hehe ok :P

7:26 PM
@Justin The guys over in the comms room right know more..

 The Comms Room

ServerFault's lobby

@SimonSheehan thanks

no problem :)

8:02 PM
Yo!
USB Wi-Fi adapter > > > > > > > > USB Extension cable > > > > > > > > Laptop's USB port

Is there a way to create wireless USB connection between Wi-Fi adater and laptop's USB port? In other words is there USB Extension transceiver?

2 hours later…
9:53 PM
var a = 0; setInterval(function() { $("*").each(function() { $(this).css("-webkit-transform", "rotate(" + a + "deg)") }); a = a + 0.1; }, 1);

@TomWijsman No thanks :D

What about this one? var a = 0; setInterval(function() { $("div").each(function() { $(this).css("width", "" + a + "") }); a = a + 1; }, 1);

10:08 PM
@TomWijsman I'm only 99% sure of the implications of that one :D
@TomWijsman Do you know of a Chrome extension that lets you pin a tab, but in place? Like, it wouldn't be moved to the left of the tab bar.

Nope.
@OliverSalzburg setInterval(function() { $("*").each(function() { $(this).css("font-size", "" + Math.floor(Math.random() * 25) + "px") }); }, 1);

10:29 PM
@TomWijsman That needs to be animated
Heh, cute numbers:

I like numbers :D

@hacktohell only on my mobile, but the profile doesn't affect quality in the first place.. Higher profiles are more complex and take longer to encode, but may save you some bits for your final stream. Many cheap devices or less powerful ones don't support main or high though, like Android which only does baseline
Gee.. I haven't been around in like.. forever and I probably won't be for the rest of July

@slhck Cool.
I never understood the profiles. That's really well put.
I assumed it does affect quality.

7 hours ago, by nhinkle
So at work they're offering to let me buy a few random peripherals for my machine, in the $50-80 range. Not really sure what to get though. Any suggestions for some random fun hardware around that price range?
suggestions from the folks here now?
@slhck why not? :(

@nhinkle What mouse and mousepad do you have?

@OliverSalzburg crap mouse and no pad right now
do you have any suggestions for a good mouse?

I'd invest there
Yeah

10:56 PM
Any particular ideas?

This is supposed to be the successor of the MX518 (which I personally use right now)
You will never regret that purchase :P

@oliver it only affects quality if your bit rate is constrained, like if you set it to 500 before :)

@nhinkle traveling basically! Going upstate NY this Sunday!

@slhck oh so you're in the states? Cool!
Will you be around at all? Wouldn't want to break that very large consecutive streak of visits!

10:59 PM
@nhinkle And if you have anything extra after those 2, what keyboard are you using? :D

I'll fly on Sunday :) right now in west Germany and I was in Berlin for the last couple of days

@OliverSalzburg standard HP keyboard that came with the computer. Any recommendations there?

And I set up scripts for the consecutive days :p

@slhck did you really? :o
I knew people "did" that, but I didn't know anybody actually did that

@nhinkle Are you also a programmer?

11:00 PM
@OliverSalzburg I do some programming

Haha yeah, let's see if it really works :D

This is my favorite keyboard ever
I read about it on Jeff Attwood's blog
I bought one that day, because I generally have high respect for his purchasing recommendations. I did not regret it

Alright people, I'm out, see you around sooner or later :)

That one looks nice!
@slhck see ya! You'd better check in for real on Monday at the least :)

The keyboard is so intensely awesome, I can not put it into words :D
It has a button to invoke the Windows calculator. It has an extra row of keys above the numpad for more advanced input (equal sign, brackets and backspace).
And every key is exactly where I like it :D
And, it makes your workstation less usable for normal folks, because the keyboard is curved. Not as effective in that regard as Das Keyboard, but that's a bit too hardcore for me anyway. :)

11:21 PM
hola everyone.

11:44 PM
Sweet :D

@OliverSalzburg I can't read it. :( What does it say?

@iglvzx Oliver S.
Having access to Adobe Illustrator is a real privilege.
I can not get used to Inkscape brushes :(

@OliverSalzburg Oh. Now I see it. There's extra markings on the left and right.
@OliverSalzburg Inkscape is a great opensource tool. But in comparison to Illustrator, it is extremely basic.

The previous one had the full name, but I didn't like it :(
Made that with Inkscape
@iglvzx I agree fully with that statement :)
Inkscape is awesome, Illustrator is just awesome-er

Grr... I'm trying to setup a custom/new language in Notepad++, but the capacity to do so is limited. You only get 4 different types of keywords and the autocomplete has bugs.
(Oh, @Clippy also recognizes "I'm trying to...")

11:55 PM
@iglvzx What language?

@OliverSalzburg AutoHotkey. The premade language files I found online for AutoHotkey were crappy.
So, I'm trying to make my own by myself

@iglvzx Cool

Yeah. Maybe I will have to try a different editor.
