8:00 PM
impressively warm or impressively cold @Linker3000?

For the UK South Coast at 21:01, 20C is noteworthingly high.

!!!SO BLOODY HOT!!!

@WilliamHilsum LOL!
Typical of the UK - if we have more than 0.25" of snow in the winter everything grinds to a halt, and it reached 33C/91F some places today - so the trains grind to a halt.

@Linker3000 Makes me feel better about the German train system. Same issues.

@DanielBeck Whereabouts are you - I have friends near Nurnberg.

8:06 PM
LOL!

@Linker3000 I'm in Stuttgart right now.

It gets up to around 100 F here in Indiana. The humidity makes it feel like 110 though. In the winter, we will get ice and snow storms that average 3' for the worst storms of the year.

@Linker3000 heard on the news... can't believe it!

Maybe I should move there... It seems very mild.

I just found some news from almost a year ago. 50C/122F in some trains due to failing air conditioning.

8:08 PM
@WilliamHilsum Makes me glad my London commuting days are over. I'm working on the 50 min car journey too - hope to move to a job about 15 min away.

I went out a couple of times today... I had to use some napkins as the steering wheel was too hot!

My job is about 5min away by car in morning rushhour traffic.

You should tint your windows @WilliamHilsum

@DarthAndroid So you work from home and it takes you 5 minutes to stumble from the bedroom to your office?

Get some nice 30% tints on there and you will not need to worry about that anymore.

8:10 PM
Nope :)

hehe... gangster style!
It's not worth paying for the 3-4 days a year of heat!

Apartment is just really close to the office.
Still waiting for August to see what this place is really like when it's hot.

Meh - dontcha just love it when someone gives the same answer as you, later than you, and they get the tick!!!!

Current references are Dallas with ~110F dry heat, and Houston, which is 110F and 100% humidity.

Not that I'm bitter!
@DarthAndroid Ick

8:12 PM
@DarthAndroid my office is about a 5 meter walk from my bed :)

Oh, I'm never bitter about that, @Linker3000

@Linker3000 I don't mind if it covers a bit more background or similar (e.g. I have given answers that I think just give the person what they want and someone else goes in to detail), but, yeah... still annoying!

@WilliamHilsum Nice :) What exactly do you do?

@Linker3000 Depends on the content. If it's the same, or worse, or clearly less work, probably. If it's better, not so much. Care to link?

@DarthAndroid go on my computer and answer questions here! :)

8:14 PM
@WilliamHilsum Well, I suppose they did add a screenshot of Word - which i can't do at the mo as I'm on my laptop running Fedora
For what it's worth....

Q: Hide header on first page, but show footer

RickI am making a template (dot) using Word 2010 and need the header not to show on just the first page, but the footer must appear on the first and everyother page.

if it makes you happy, give me the link and I will +1 you
done :)

@WilliamHilsum Ah, pity votes - I'm humbled!! ;-)

@WilliamHilsum Paid to do that? I mean if that's how you're qualifying "work" then I only have to stumble 2m, but if it doesn't pay the bills then it isn't as interesting :P

still a vote!
@DarthAndroid ha! I wish I was paid to do this!
... seriously... IT support... everything from 1st line to onsite server work... my company and I do everything... but... I am trying to get a lot more in to programming as I think that is where my future is

@WilliamHilsum As the years have rolled by, I have found more companies interested in IT specialists who have a business-oriented approach - I have been 'into' businesss process mapping and developing solid sets of SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) recently and this mix of IT/Business knowledge seems to go down well. I have 'dabbled' with programmijg but can't stick it long term and don;'t plan to make a career of it.

8:20 PM
I have a funny feeling my ISP is going to shoot me soon.

wow! :)

@DarthAndroid So much pron^h^h^h^hLinux distros, so little time....

@DarthAndroid You do know that most file sharing clients allow you to throttle bandwidth?

@DanielBeck Those are downloads, so it would only make it take longer :P

@Linker3000 Well, I would like to make programming my career... I love end user support (and, I think I do it well), but... I am out of touch with serious business issues as many of my clients have limited budgets and try to cut costs etc.... it is annoying... but, it pays my bills

8:22 PM
@WilliamHilsum Can't argue with that - whatever pays the bills etc.

@DarthAndroid I think they would shoot us for doing that in one or two days.

@DarthAndroid True. That reminds me that the best Bittorrent client in existence is clearly Transmission. Or are there others that allow reducing upload speed to 0kb/s?

@DanielBeck I moved to Deluge

@DanielBeck I don't mind giving back, that's not the issue :P

8:23 PM
@Linker3000 I should be charging more though, but... another story, another day

Dunno what happened on Friday...

You can just use Utorrent and not use uploading

@TomWijsman That's a really bad sign

I personally use an old version (best IMHO is 1.8.2) rock solid and good

(FTR, I'm upgrading some video files to HD )

8:25 PM
Just set it to something low amount of KB/s...

@Linker3000 Ugh. On OS X via Macports. No thank you ;)

@DanielBeck I'm not a Mac guy - but I take it that's a no then!?

@Linker3000 Pretty much. The UI can't be any good (probably X based) and it'd be a pain to launch etc.

@DanielBeck OK, send it back and I'll give you a refund ;-)

While tolerable for really good or unique programs, why suffer through that if I'm content with what I have?

8:27 PM
feeling lousy.. I either have a cold or hayfever... not really sure, just need to go to sleep!
goodnight all

@WilliamHilsum Hope you feel better in the morning. Take it easy.

@Linker3000 Are you sure? I might be online via mobile phone and they charge by the kb ;)
@WilliamHilsum good night

Darn - gotta go inside and plug in before lappy dies....

@TomWijsman cough Rebecca Black cough

8:46 PM
'ello everyone.

Hi Mark

Hi, @Linker3000. How are you?

Fine thanks, you?

I'm doing great, thanks.

1 hour later…
10:04 PM
@PriceChild: apparently it didn't :)
* has a factory fresh winxp install on his thinkpad R61 :)*

10:40 PM
Can't sleep... too hot :( I HATE IT!!!

lol
i got woken up by a blocked nose
god, patching takes too long, even when you have all the patches uploaded.

@WilliamHilsum Welcome back!

... feel lousy... too hot without fans, and now my eyes seem to go super dry with them on... I just can't win

10:59 PM
Ah well - my turn to try and sleep...

11:13 PM
Hello, folks

@Linker3000 Goodnight
@nhinkle hello!

Howdy Wil. How's life?

read ^ ... lousy at the moment :( ... feel ill, can't sleep... and worse of all... there are no unanswered Windows questions I can help with at the moment!

11:21 PM
.... I have to explore this site more than just answer questions! :) ... I will try to bring that list down to 0!

11:52 PM
Hello World!
2

Welcome to Super User, @TheWhitePhoenix

Thanks! Yay! Such a cool website!
:)

do check our our blog too :)

I find it's like a video game, only somewhat productive
Oooo.. Wordpress.. Another platform I enjoy.. :)

Today my roommate got to level 85 in WOW. Today I hit 6400 rep on #SuperUser. Whose addiction is more productive? @codinghorror

11:55 PM
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
so relevant

welcome to the site indeed @TheWhitePhoenix :)

Do any of you develop for StackExchange?
How does that work? Who works on this wicked platform anyway?

@TheWhitePhoenix users with a diamond ♦ after their name (such as myself and @Ivo) are Community Moderators. We're all volunteers, elected each year or appointed before elections existed. The developers are also marked as ♦, but are all listed in the link above.

Sheeks in horror
"We work with C#, ASP.NET MVC and Microsoft SQL Server"
lol
Hmm, very cool
Cool, are the moderator elections merely a product of rep, and showing interest?
