@Makyen I'd like to look for some traffic from SD and make sure we account for it in all of our rules in Cloudflare. I have a list of IP address from someone working on the project and we use that to tag traffic from SD.
If y'all don't mind committing to using the user agent SmokeDetector/git (+https://github.com/Charcoal-SE/SmokeDetector) I use that in combination of the IP list to correctly classify all the traffic.

@JoshZhang We can do that. We don't currently do that. We have three different sources for SE API requests (aside from userscripts): SmokeDetector (SD), metasmoke (MS), and the AWS Lambda which sends flagging requests initiated from metasmoke.
Do you want us to differentiate between requests sent from those three different sources?
MS is, currently, tied to a specific IP address. SD primarily will be from a specific IP address, previously provided, but may be from other IP addresses as backup SD instances are used from time to time. The AWS Lambda is not tied to a specific IP address. Currently, SD and the AWS Lambda are probably sending a Python requests package default User-Agent. If MS is sending a User-Agent, it's probably a default one for the couple of different Ruby gems which are used.
We can definitely change to using a specific User-Agent for SD and/or the AWS Lambda. I expect that we can change the User-Agent in the requests sent by MS, but I will need to look into how to do so.

@Makyen SD and MS will originate from known IP's correct? If so then you can use a known user agent like the one you used before and I'll use that in combination with an IP list to classify that traffic. The lambda based traffic I'd like some more details on what kind of traffic it'll send to better decide how I want to classify and handle it.

@JoshZhang SD will mostly originate from one static IP. It will, from time to time, also originate from other IP addresses when we have problems with the SD instance that's located on the primary IP address, or for testing. Those other IP addresses will mostly be ones associated with AWS EC2-based compute instances. Those AWS EC2-based compute instances will mostly be a single IP address, which changes only rarely. However, it can and has been other IP addresses on other AWS EC2-based compute instances. In the past, SD has been on a variety of IP addresses, depending on who was running the SD instance.
MS is on a static IP address that's only changed 3 or 4 times? over several years.
The AWS lambda securely holds all the access_token values which are used for raising automatic and manual flags through MS. It interacts with the SE API to go through the OAuth2 flow to request access_token values, to invalidate tokens, get the flag options on questions and answers (both SE API version 2.2 and 2.3), and adding a flag to both questions and answers (both SE API version 2.2 and 2.3).
You can find the relatively short Python code (284 lines) for the AWS Lambda in the file lambda_function.py. I am unsure if the AWS Lambda is presented as being on a single static external IP address. I do know that tends to stay on a single IP address, but that it is, sometimes, on multiple actual compute instances simultaneously.

@Makyen I didn't even think to ask, is any of this passing auth headers? If not, can it? If so that makes it trivial and we don't have to worry about user-agent nor IP's though I would still prefer the original UA for ease of parsing logs.

10:33 PM
@JoshZhang Are you asking about HTTP headers or passing an SE API access_token? As for access_token values, only the AWS Lambda currently passes an access_token with requests. We probably could arrange for SD and MS to pass an appropriate access_token value indicating their respective users. SD does login and keep session cookies, but only for access to chat.
Depending on what you're looking for, we can probably accommodate changes. Changes to SD would be easier than changes to MS, but MS using an access_token would be possible.
