Where is the discussion regarding Charcoal restarting occurring? There does not appear to be anything on the Team.

@RyanM the original vote was done on Keybase; it was never on the Teams site. Discussion on resumption remains there. Was primarily a Charcoal Admin discussion/vote
@RyanM well they owe me a month+ of account credit at this point
and if they argue about it, then they meet a breach-of-contract suit :p
they already agreed to prorate me for a months worth of service though

@ThomasWard Yup, that's the reason I'm pinging Art as well. I suppose Art could help.
@iBug well it depends on the config on the Cloudflare side, but it's probably easier for me to get the certbot certs updated again
which is on my list for when i wake up.
goes to sleep
Not quite. I was looking for a CDN-enabled alternative to the master MS domain so that I can access it more reliably from Asia.
Rather than fixing certbot (or why not acme.sh?) I'd like to see it on CF CDN.
BTW in the past few years I'm extremely satisfied with Proxmox VE, so if I were to host MS I'd go with KVM on ZFS - snapshotting and backing up made easy.

@AndreasdetestsAIhype I'll ack your ping but I'm still mulling over what exactly my plans are
@tripleee Thanks. Take your time. This is no time for hasty decisions.

Life seems much easier during strike from SE. I guess I'm not the only one :)

Q: Does/Should academia.SE have a “Flag user” feature?

CoderRecently we have been seeing several posts (both questions and answers) which are purely scams/spams. See for example: How do we stop such garbage in such a good portal? It is tiring to keep flagging questions as spams. I have flagged at least 8-10 in just 2-3 days. How can make sure we have onl...

I’m thinking of signing up my chat bot as an autoflagger.
@TheEmptyStringPhotographer well beware
Better not to do anything than just abuse the system
Well it's your choice, so good luck.

Q: Why was this harmless looking question marked as spam/RA (by a moderator)?

jpsWhy was this question marked as spam or RA? Screenshot for those who can't see deleted posts: It's certainly not a quality question and already got a close vote and there was a later self-deleted answer (from a different user) that was maybe AI-generated, but that seems to be unrelated to the fl...

@TheEmptyStringPhotographer If you do so, you would need to be sure to not also flag anything autoflagged by that account with any other account controlled by you. Personally, I'd find that quite frustrating to accomplish. However, how much effort that will be will depend on how active you are at manually flagging and any tools which you build to help verify that you don't end up with multiple spam/R/A flags from yourself on a single post. Without building personal tooling to specifically watch for that possible case happening, both before and after manually flagging, I'd probably find that I'd need to refrain from manually flagging with my main account. That's not something I want to do.
12:23
@Makyen But what's wrong with that?
and can you activate my account @Makyen
@UtilityBot activate how?
How is it inactive now?

@TheE bots are not supposed to send human messages
12:40
@UtilityBot I'm unsure what you're asking. If you're asking what would be wrong with raising two separate spam and/or R/A flags from two accounts which you control, then the issue would be that it would be a violation of the rules for using multiple accounts. It would be grounds for suspending all of your accounts on that site. It could easily result in all of your accounts being merged and/or your alternate accounts being suspended for a year and destroyed, etc. I'd suggest reading "What are the rules governing multiple accounts (i.e. sockpuppets)?"

@UtilityBot I'm not saying "no" at this time, but I'm also not saying "yes". The account is, with respect to age of account and reputation, below the thresholds which we usually look for when activating an account. Without your discussion here, it's not an account which we would normally "activate" (i.e. to which we'd grant the "Flagger" role).
@Makyen What is explicit requirements to reputation and age of account?
@Petəíŕd-CSC "... account and are, potentially, able to participate in flagging across the network (i.e. has the association bonus) and which have been in existence for some time". While that's fairly nebulous, there have never been concrete specifications for those. That wording is also subject to change, as I wrote it shortly prior to linking it above after I realized that the prior description for the Flagger role didn't reflect our current "normal" practices.
@Makyen thanks.

@Petəíŕd-CSC Since when?
SE is looking for API improvement suggestions, might be of interest to folks here.

hah, that tells you how observant I am of late
Thanks
@Catija Edited this a bit to highlight the important part, for serial non-readers like myself
Nitpick: "make sure certain people"
Ah, that was in the original message. Man, I look like a jerk now, don't I?
15:57
This may be a dumb question(s): (1) is Charcoal back up and running, or still on strike? (2) if the latter, will Charcoal be back to work soon?

Q: Does the Charcoal team plan to run SmokeDetector again?

MartinThere have been several posts complaining about increased visibility of spam posts.1 At least part of the reason was the fact that the Charcoal team participated in the strike and SmokeDetector wasn't running during the strike. Now the strike has led to some results. (Thanks once again to the peo...

@Petəíŕd-CSC Tanks.
I had been looking for something like that, but not seeing it.
@XanderHenderson It is still being discussed
16:29
@XanderHenderson (1) No. (2) At this moment, that is the likely outcome.
@Mast When Charcoal goes back online, would it be too much trouble to get someone to pin a message here?
@XanderHenderson Not at all. Someone will shout something in TL as well.
16:52
I wonder why so many people here currently.
And not so small number of mods.
That's not uncommon in this room, you'll get used to it :-)
17:16
@Petəíŕd-CSC A lot of us, I think, are waiting to follow Charcoal's lead before returning to moderation. (At least, that is why I am here at the moment.)

I don't know how to handle spam without SD. It's like trying to type with one hand tied behind your back.

lol
21:32
@IanCampbell When in doubt, try raising a spam flag on the post :-)
Luckily it's possible to do that with only one hand.
Quite so.
