Yes, the only difference is if SD replies to your message. In general, using silent mode is preferred to minimize excess chat messages, although some people prefer userscripts that give feedback on reports (FIRE, for example, adds a button you can press instead of typing a chat message)
Personally, I mostly use FIRE as it is easier for me, but there's other userscripts that people like as well, though I still give chat feedback occasionally
