@tripleee Do I need Makyen to give me commit privileges to the SD repository (so that I can do things like update complex regexes on the watchlist, such as the above), or is that something you can do?
I last synced my fork of the repo on my local machine 16 days ago, and it's already had so many changes that I've been waiting a good 5 minutes for it to pull, and it's only ~50% done. :-(
If there's an easier way, I'm all for it. I certainly don't plan to start making changes to the code or merging PRs that do so. If there was something I wanted to change in the code, I'd definitely go through the normal process of submitting a PR for review. I only intend to be able to update things like the watch/blacklist expressions a bit more expeditiously.
@CodyGray Some tips: It's often a bit of a pain in the rear to push a commit directly to the SD repository, due to other people performing !!/watch and !!/blacklist-* commands at similar times, so a PR is often actually easier. When pushing directly, I often end up rebasing a single commit onto the freshly re-fetched master branch's new HEAD, sometimes a few times.
If the text "autopull" is anywhere in the commit message, then SD should automatically pull and use the commit once CI testing is complete. If the commit doesn't have "autopull" in it, then you'll need to use the !!/pull command to have SD pull the commit, or wait for some other GitHub operation that causes the commit to be pulled (e.g. due to a new !!/watch command). The text "autopull" can be added to a PR's merge commit to cause the merged PR to be automatically pulled.
For testing prior to pushing to the Charcoal repository, I typically run the CI tests locally and/or push the commit to my GitHub fork of the repository and verify that the commit will pass CI testing there prior to trying to push it directly to the Charcoal repository (you can enable GitHub Actions on the fork and/or CircleCI).
While directly pushing a commit that doesn't pass CI testing isn't the end of the world, it can result in confusion and frustration, so I do try to actually test first, as there's always the possibility of typos.
Does anyone know what version of Node.js MS uses currently? I'm following the setup guide which suggests v6, but that is deprecated and produces a large warning message when installed (going to test a bug fix and then hopefully send a PR)
latest Docker image I built seems to have v12.22.5 -- no guarantees that it works 100% correctly (in fact I guess this could explain some oddities) but on the whole, it does not break spectacularly
the Dockerfile simply pulls in whatever is current in the base image, so Debian Bullseye for the Ruby 2.7 image apparently
the instructions should probably be updated to mention that Node is likely out of date by the time you try to read them; I guess you are looking at the ones in the wiki?
@tripleee Yep, I'm looking at the Wiki on GH. There's a few other (minor) things that are out of date. IDK if it would be helpful, but I could send in a PR to update it. That said, I can't easily validate that everything works on newer versions so I'm somewhat hesitant to, although I might send the PR anyways, at least for basic updates

But, that's really a personal choice and has quite a bit to do with having set things up such that it's easy for me to have a text editor open to make the change and that I often already have an editor open to those files and a File Manager window open to the local SD repository fork.
@cocomac that would be appreciated; I don't think we have a good understanding of the consequences but if you can point out what doesn't work, that at least helps find a way to rephrase it so it's not broken
@Makyen Hmm. I feel you on generally preferring to use a text editor when making substantial changes, but when merely editing an existing expression on a list, that seems like something where it'd be far more convenient to do within the built-in UI. I mean, I'm sure it would affect my perception if I was regularly making/committing other changes to the repo.
the peril of quick and dirty edits is of course always that you have no protection against stilly keyboard errors ... my T-shirt collection is dominated by ones I earned this way
