@ThomasWard Since you're here, I'm just double-checking that you got the ping regarding Osiris having DNS issues. There isn't a rush. I'm just trying to make sure there isn't a communication failure, particularly given the recently reported SE issues with chat pings -> inbox notifications and inbox notifications in general.
@Makyen i haven't had a chance to dig
because i've been on the 'hair on fire' situation at work this morning where shit was on fire
i'm also stuck on a call with Microsoft for the next few hours but I had a break just to check flags
@Makyen and no i haven't seen the orginal pings
but the DNS issues seem leftover from yesterday's DNS problems
so i'mma punt Osiris around later
@ThomasWard Not a problem. Real Life is more important. Communication happened, which is all I was really concerned about.
@Makyen i'm also considering moving Osiris to a different server.
because the LXD container host system is old that that thing sits on
sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
might just spin a new one up. Anubis, anyone? XD
Have we done Ra yet?
16:27
no but that's a good one
All of the above sounds reasonable. Just a reboot of the container might work, given the issues. Upon !!/reboot Osiris would work for a while and then start having issues contacting MS.
but Anubis makes sense - god of death (to spammers!) and what not
Thoth is the Egyptian god of knowledge, which also wouldn't be a bad one.
@Makyen that sounds like a broken network stack
Yep.
16:28
if there's no objection I'll just spin a new SD and use that
if the stack is broken i'd rather rebuild
though it'll take time for a brand new SD instance to syncup
Whatever you think best, but Real Life takes precedence.
@Spevacus No, that's for Makyen. Do Hathor (with love, from CHQ!)
Sekhmet - wards off disease. :P
@Ollie lol. Thanks.
16:30
:)
War and healing, eh? Also seems applicable.
Sobek?
Crocodiles? Eh
"Apparently associated with fertility" Interesting...
@Makyen nuclear strikes on Osiris and replacing that with a new box means SD has to play catchup and notifications might barf, but that sholdn't be a bad thing. I can extract the files from Osiris and just deploy it on the new LXD server with a new name, new network stack, etc.
but that's all after-work stuff

@SmokeDetector fp- Non-English question asking how to deal with an encrypted file.
@ThomasWard If you transfer everything in the pickles directory, then there's little to do with respect to catchup or notification state, but you already know that. It's also possible to !!/dump_data and !!/load_data, but that's only a limited amount of data and would still require notable catchup, particularly wrt. post scanning.
yep but we can at least let it play catchup
i'm probably going to copy/paste the entire Osiris directory but to the new system and run it under a new name
you'll have to update the "THIS SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED" failover notice though xD

@ThomasWard Good point. That's no problem. It's in the config file. :)
speaking of which my config is probably out of date from the examples, can you keybase me your config so I can glance at and see a diff xD
(I haven't had to touch the config since it was last deployed xD)
Sure.
I don't think much changed, but I may not be remembering something.

@SmokeDetector DNS is resolving, but Comcast reports MS is unreachable.
oooooooooooooooooops?
that's because i accidentally kernel-panic'd the hypervisor node ooops
Well, that would do it. :)
Notice: teward/Osiris: Last 2 connection(s) to metasmoke succeeded. Setting metasmoke status to up.
@Makyen i wonder if the network problems were related to the kernel panic on the node
and that was just a 'long time coming' explosion
yeah 'cause DNS is back up with the node reboot
still, fresh reboot never hurt anyone xD
17:39
Yeah, that (all) certainly could be the case.
Yep. Rebooting often fixes a bunch of ills.
yeah gotta be careful when it's a firewall-running machine

@Makyen @RyanM As it turned out, it looks like it took about 9 hours for my instance to get caught up with the scanning backlog. That implies that either there was substantially more traffic on SE (unlikely on a Thursday), or there's considerably less headroom to what my instance can do with these two CPUs then the last time I looked at it over a similar time of day. It will also reflect a difference between using a T3 instance vs a T4g.
