Metasmoke and Osiris will blip during network switchovers repeatedly in the next 48 hours - tomorrow I will be deploying a new pfSense appliance. It's on hardware that will be running Sense and my own Wireguard server for myself (for reasons!) on a Protectli 6 port 8GB RAM 128GB SSD device. I will be switching over to that eventually, so the existing pfSense I rebuilt will become a backup system. This should prevent me from losing network access if the vSAN storage explodes again.

it's not a powerful server, it's a Protectli appliance box that basically is designed to run Open Source OSes and stuff, but I put VMware on it and added it to my cluster to specifically run my pfSense and my Wireguard VM
but it's powerful enough to run a Sense VM - this device actually was built to be able to run Sense natively among otherthings
so when the Sense is dead, the comcast residential router over there behind my laser printer points at that area in his office is the failover so I acn have internet access to fix stuff

did i ever tell you the one work day, though, we were in the office until like 3 in the F-ing morning because we needed to be around for the ISP at the time at FT job to undelete our route from their network configuration on their endpoint routers/systems at the building?
they deleted the network route because they were stupid idiots and also deleted the entire /24 allocation for the FT workplace, at like 10:45AM that day. Myself and the rest of IT were there until 3AM.
THREE IN THE MORNING - no public transit for me to get home that day, 'cause this was when i didn't have a car and it was black as night. my boss had to do me a kindness and drive me home. And then we all subsequently got the next day off because none of us were gonna wake up in time for work
@tripleee yep. it only took me like an hour to get the sense config overand properly line up the network adapter configs on the device (which net adapter on VMware is which) to match the proper VLAN/trunk mappings :P
(and just in case you wonder wtf i mean by a Protectli appliance - protectli.com - I make no money from this link, but it's NOT a netgate appliance, and is actually able to run Windows even so... these boxes are pretty useful)
