I guess this rule was past its useful lifetime anyway; the Indian pharma spam gang used to cycle through new product names every few weeks and we probably have hundreds of them blacklisted for no good reason any longer

the one I blacklisted earlier today was another example as such, but the more complex regexes are somewhat more problematic to keep around for various reasons

Oops, I guess API is returning nonsense again.

or Makyen is doing something funky

Wait, no. It's the exact same bug as before. SE has increased our quota, and SD doesn't know that it's close to its maximum.
Which is... weird. They're weren't supposed to increase it to 60k or 65k. But OK.

10:36 AM
@CodyGray the change in 91b12bfb4af9321885a46937a6292a3b4c58801d increased the number from 19900 to 39900 but I'm not sure I understand exactly what the logic checks for or how it's wrong

Is there a CustOmeR + SUPport ☎ NUMber I can call or something?

@CodyGray now would be a good time to randomly try lthe last 300 or so from blacklisted_numbers.txt

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Potentially bad ns for domain in answer (1): What does &. (ampersand dot) mean in Ruby?‭ by G.O.‭ on stackoverflow.com

@tripleee Yeah, I don't completely understand it either. I haven't even looked at the code. But from the way I interpret Makyen's chat message, it appears that there's some kind of debouncing logic that will ignore spurious "API quota rolled over" events when it has gone from a value very close to its maximum to another value very close to its maximum, as that's the result of different API servers getting out of sync.
You'll notice that the quota has suddenly risen from ~40k to ~65k, so the hardcoded upper-bound of ~40k is no longer accurate, which means that the debouncing logic is not working anymore.

what I'm wondering if why there is a >= 39980 there and whether it makes sense to change that to (say) 64980
but desperate times call for desperate measures - I'll try and see what happens

actually 66k I guess?

There was talk about it going up to 80k. I did not expect that to come nearly this quickly, and ~66k is still pretty far away from 80k, but it appears to be continuing to gradually go up? I don't know if that's somehow a thing, where it takes time to trickle in? I wouldn't think so... But I also don't understand why it would have gone up to ~65k at all.

@CodyGray Using newlines in the message would prevent using Markdown. That message uses Markdown for the link, so... Also, it's a bit less disruptive for everyone else if the message is more compact. It does make it a bit harder to decode the information, but having the Markdown link is helpful. I haven't done so, yet, but I may just add the newlines using a userscript, which would make it easier to read, but not increase disruption for people who don't care, and keep the Markdown.

11:46 AM
@Makyen Given that there's only one link, and it's a very compact one in a very predictable format, my subjective assessment would have been that the sacrifice of Markdown formatting to get line breaks would have been worth it. I considered the "less disruptive" argument, but actually evaluated it the other way, b/c multi-line chat messages automatically fold up, requiring extra effort to be taken to unfold them, which usually makes them take up less space than a relatively-long "normal" msg.

@tripleee You mean that your kids have never seen or heard of touch-typing before, yet are old enough to be impressed by the significance of it?

@CodyGray apparently so, or probably they just had to learn to hunt and peck organically and never reflected on whether that experience could be improved on somehow (even the oldest who is 29 already)
consequently they are also the generation for whom a screen keyboard is not obviously a horrible nuisance, because they can't go faster than that anyway

Oh, I definitely have. That's the reason why on-screen keyboards are so frustrating to me. I am used to being able to type nearly as fast as I can think (which is why I learned to type, and do so quickly, in the first place, because not being able to do so was frustrating to me). I can't even come close to that with a screen.

That pattern may be a North American number. If it is, please use a format which starts with an optional `1` followed by possible separator text and has the main number in the format `808-400-5921` where `-` could be a single alpha character or any `[\W_]*+`. Alternately, you can add the comment `(?#IS NorAm)` to the end of the pattern to force also using the alternate normalized form, or `(?#NO NorAm)` if it's not a North American phone number and it's incorrectly recognized as one. @Mast I pushed a commit for which I really only paid attention to the pytest tests passing and didn't notice that the flake8 results failed, due to missing an extra blank line. My internet connection then went out. The poor formatting was a result of the text being too long for a standard chat message, so the default is to use a multi-line message, which doesn't support Markdown. I've found another way to do support longer messages, under some conditions, such that Markdown is supported, but haven't updated that part of SD to use them. It would also be possible to cut down on the information provided in the message from MS, which would be a more general fix, or I could just use branch names that weren't so verbose. :;

@Makyen Ah, thanks.
