@Xnero If you're not willing to explain, at least minimally, a statement like "it's obviously broken", then please don't say it. The explanation doesn't need to be a lot, but something. Without explanation, and particularly refusing to explain, it ends up sounding petulant and being a rant. [It also tends to be one of the tactics people use when trolling to hurt others and consume/waste people's time, although I don't think you intended it that way.]
Basically, when you're talking to people who have invested time/effort/money/emotionally/etc. in something, saying "it's obviously broken" ends up with those people being concerned as to what might be broken. They will then spend time/effort/thought trying to figure out what, exactly, is "obviously broken", because they care about fixing it, or at least knowing that a decision has been made to have it in the current state and the reasons behind that decision.
In addition, just saying "it's obviously broken" tends to be hurtful to those who are invested in whatever it is, particularly when not explained, so that those who are invested are unable to address, or at least evaluate (as above), whatever the issue is.
4

Don't get me wrong. We want to know when things are broken, so we can fix them. However, it's just not helpful to say something like "it's obviously broken" and not explain when it's clear that other people aren't understanding what it is that is "obviously broken".

Oops

@Makyen @Xnero yep, sorry.

@Spevacus There's an ongoing desire to have the rules for blacklisting to be less stringent and/or more subjective (i.e. basically, a desire to allow people to blacklist whenever they feel like the term isn't going to be used in anything other than spam or R/A posts).
Changing the blacklisting requirements has been discussed a few/several times both here in Charcoal HQ and on Teams (e.g. "Blacklist based on confidence rather than occurrence?")
My opinion on making changes to loosen the requirements is expressed in an answer to that Teams question. I haven't seen any changes which would alter my opinion in the year, or so, since then. I'm not opposed to additional discussion. My opinion on the subject is neither set in stone, nor is my opinion controlling.

@SmokeDetector if we would not red-flag for the content of the post, but for the username, does CHQ want a tp?

wouldn't mod flagging for a username be better than red flagging? idk what the policy is

@JeffSchaller Yes, it's something we'd want blocked at the system level. However, a red-flag on it is probably not the best thing to use, unless the username is really bad. A custom flag explaining the issue would be better.

@JeffSchaller I don't have one. ArtOfCode worked up a list a year ago, but the processing to generate it took a day+, IIRC. That might be a good starting point.

@Makyen Hm. The problem you raise in that answer is something I've considered but never explored solutions to. I'm with Jeff here, is there any way for us to collate blacklist items with %TP (or just MS searches) insofar as we would be able to create a short list of potentially unhelpful blacklist items for review?
Ah, just read your message. Neat.

@Makyen got it; I saw the script as well. Sounds like a shorter list that's focused on a poor FP rate would be useful?
jinx all over the place here :)

In my mind it would be great to have something automated that searches through MS for each blacklist item, and returns the %TP rate result. If the %TP rate is below some arbitrary point, add that to a list for manual review.

4:41 PM
maybe it's not the top priority for the project, but I have a very particular set of skills :) that do not include this kind of coding

@JeffSchaller Yes, IMO, a list which focuses just on those entries which have a %TP which is noticeably below the general target of 95%+ TP would be quite beneficial.

user435118
%TP could be checked after every SD report (for whatever was caught in that SD report) and added to a manual review list.

@JeffSchaller fancy ;)

user435118
@Xnero Actually, the %TP could be checked by the metasmoke bot.

4:49 PM

@Xnero As I understand it, Halflife used to perform searches for some terms. As it was implemented, doing so used regex searches on MS. Unfortunately, performing those searches was determined to cause too heavy a load on MS and the functionality was disabled. It was also, potentially, a security issue, which might allow an attacker a DOS attack route (although that could be mitigated).

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Few unique characters in answer, mostly punctuation marks in answer (125): Will my non-obligatory prayer be accepted if I had the intention not to pray if something occurs? by Mahad on islam.SE

@Xnero The general intent for the metasmoke bot is that it be integrated back into SD, so there's only one actual instance which is running, but posting under both accounts. Given that it's generally working as-is, and doesn't have any additional cost above what I'd pay to have my SD instance running, doing that work hasn't been a priority. Overall, I'd prefer not to have us put additional functionality into it as a separate thing from SD.

@Makyen The only reason I suggested it is to reduce processing on SD.

@Makyen Ok. Sorry for not responding earlier. The issue I see here is that the number has 3 all recent tp’s. 2 of these tp’s have a weight below 100. That number is definitely not going to be in fp’s so what is the harm in adding it to the blacklist to get it past the autoflagging threshold?

@Xnero No problem, man. Speaking for others when I shouldn't, I think we would just prefer you clarify what you mean when you use more strong language like "obvious problems" because, to us, it's not quite so plainly obvious. No harm, no foul. :)
By "strong language" I just mean passionate language that indicates you feel strongly about your assertion in how you view the blacklist guidelines, not profanity or anything like that.
